I think UA-cam just put a curse on Shadiversity, I'm getting tons of recommendations for both Shadlands and Knights Watch, but Shadiversity has fallen into a black hole. Maybe it was the Scholagladiatoria curse
@@jon4715they were made to be stacked in massive piles and throw and rolled around. Yes they were made to withstand external pressures as well. That's why they used metal rings.
@@Bagginsess Yeah true. But I imagined the metal rings on the outside were to maintain tightness, prevent leaks. They do little to brace from external forces as the fixings bear most of the pressure, not the ring itself.
@@jon4715 just look up old pictures to see a 1000 barrels stacked up in a pyramid. Why would the barrel need to be resistant to internal pressure more so than external? They aren't air tight gas containers, sure you can stuff them but that pales in comparison to the weight of hundreds of barrels sitting above the ones on the bottom. Not to mention they were designed to float in water and survive water pressure. But ok whatever.
@@Bagginsess I agree with you. And actually the metal rings are meant to keep the bent barrel wood contained…as it is so strong in that way, to prevent crushing. I was wrong.
The metal hoops are put on while still hot and expanded. As they cool down they tighten the wooden staves together tighter. In one of L. E. Modesitt Jr. “Recluse” series of fantasy books he has the major character as a barrel maker and is very through on the construction of barrels. This is common in his books with main characters having occupations and including their craft into the story line.
I've searched all over to find their theme music to no avail, because I love it so much along with their content, they are amazing! If somebody finds it, that would be great to share!
would love to see how resistive a shield made from a barrel would be. in a short medieval fantasy story i never finished, i had peasants split barrel tops into thirds then hammer out the metal bands to wrap and nail the band and boards to the top and bottom to make anti archer shields in the city streets, getting 3 narrow shields from a barrel. probably wouldn't work or at least it would need more wood to stabilise it when it gets hit in melee. great vid keep up the great work guys.
I mean… when you *think* about it, the conclusion is obvious. Barrel = strong. But a part of my brain, trained on far too much videogame, really wanted the barrel to smash on first impact.
I would argue the possibility for the same with earthenware. At the very least, you wouldn't be able to just hit a pot of the larger non-decorative type anywhere with something like a sword without breaking the sword first. Earrthenware is fragile, but it was still used to move wares on carriages in times before springs were used for suspension in vehicles.
The lid and base providing so much strength to the structure is analogous to why convertible cars are so much less structurally supported than hard-roof cars. Convertibles are an engineering nightmare!
A fellow youtuber named Mike Shake just posted a video making a super light invisible sword. It might be fun to see whether or not his method could work for the titan sword project.
Well, in defense of videogames, perhaps the barrels within said videogames were rotting, thus making them weak enough to be more easily smashed to pieces?
Barrels are tough, that's why D Kong threw barrels at Mario. 🙃🙃
Mario broke them with a hammer
@@hijinks21hammers break stone as well, is stone weak?
wow, you couldn't just roll through it? love it. Surprising how strong barrels really are.
That barrel had a lot of hit points it was pretty much a boss battle amount of HP.
Every video with the Bec De Corbin has been a great advertisement for Bec De Corbins.
Peak internet right here 😂
I think UA-cam just put a curse on Shadiversity, I'm getting tons of recommendations for both Shadlands and Knights Watch, but Shadiversity has fallen into a black hole. Maybe it was the Scholagladiatoria curse
this was a weirdly satisfying montage of destruction
I mean, barrels were designed to withstand a lot of pressure so I'm not too suprised
Internal pressure, not external specifically.

If you know, you know 😂
"THIS AGAIN?"
*Loads quicksave, which was at the start of the dungeon*
@@Brute_Studios 🤣 amen
I bet there were apples, bread and cheese in that old dungeon barrel that were perfectly preserved and fine to eat
Those barrel rings ain't just for show! I guess that's good enough proof they're working as intended.

Shadiversity theme remix????
How has this genre been hidden from me until now?
I've searched all over to find their theme music to no avail, because I love it so much along with their content, they are amazing! If somebody finds it, that would be great to share!
This is very important research we need to get this funded
The end was extremely satisfying watching it all fall apart.
Somehow this reminds me of prohibition era photographs, turns out destroying those barrels was hard work.
hammer and chisel low down so the beer all spills out.
@@franohmsford7548 They do that at every Oktoberfest opening ceremony... O'zapft is!
Link has super human strenght, so a barrel is like paper to him.
Was actually legitimately informative, most importantly it looked fun 😊
This was so fun to watch!
Do a barrel roll!
You should keep doing short and quick content like this. I feel like the algorithm will like it much more.

The Bec has been killing it lately! lol.
Honestly, my shoulder is twinging just watching this.

I saw this when it was first released. Imagine wood is not paper.
Donkey Kong is probably proud of this video.
Next you'll be claiming that ceramic pots don't actually contain large gemstones. The wooden panels on a barrel are called staves, by the by.
Barrels are a masterwork of physics.
So what I’m hearing is those cartoon broke people in barrels were actually the most well armoured folks around.
You guys look like you are having so much fun. I really hope you are able to keep your channels going. You have what I would consider a dream job.
Keep up the good work! Nice supercut! Love the background music!.
I’m just picturing you in a dungeon wailing on a barrel for an hour only to open it and find something like old bat wings 😂
Pots like Link next!
One instance where Skyrim was accurately realistic lol 😂
And as always, Bec de corbin conquers all.
I love how it’s just destroying a barrel.
nothing weird going on here, just three dudes smashing wood...
"Ignis!" 🔥
It's almost like Barrels were DESIGNED to be able to withstand lots of punishment
This... I love!
The ones labeled DK may have a monkey or ape inside!
The lid and base providing so much strength to the structure is analogous to why convertible cars are so much less structurally supported than hard-roof cars. Convertibles are an engineering nightmare!
Nice! I never thought its so tough
And i thought this is the long version ^^ now i have a hole video, thats nice ;p
Keep putting on content 👌
„Smashing the Wood“ Hilarious
Then Link walks up with arms bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger and one taps the barrel
A fellow youtuber named Mike Shake just posted a video making a super light invisible sword. It might be fun to see whether or not his method could work for the titan sword project.
The silliness was fun, the camaraderie was heartwarming, the weapons were cool, and the music was fire!
That first part was a form of supercut I can get behind, basically a fail compilation. ;)
Best show on UA-cam
satisfying!
It is so strange to see you back in my recommendations. I luv it!! And I love the shorter video format. Much more convenient to watch on the go.
OH YEAH, BABY!!!
Them barrels be tough cookies.
There is also the question if having the barrel filled would make destroying it any harder or easier.
nothing survives the Bec.... well maybe except the thick iron helmet
It actually makes those pictures of police destroying booze barrels during prohibition more impressive.
The axe resistance is damn impressive
Should have stuck to pottery and doing Link impersonation
now whenever you have to face a barrel in combat you'll know what to do!
no no, that barrel is clearly a mimic
I certainly have a new appreciation for the lethality of Donkey Kong.
This one fatal flaw to defeat your enemies wearing barrel armor.
Those game developers lied to me
And not a single attempt at rolling into the barrel 😂
Honestly, you guys are having too much fun...
So video game barrels just lack the lids.
Have you tried rolling into them?
Dark soul's protagonist be just touching the barrel and it turns into a pile of wood, The vid idea is amazing.
Literally have nothing to comment on but trying to do something to get more people to see the video/channel!
You forgot to add the +5 damage to barrels enchantment to your weapons.
This is the greatest video I have seen on UA-cam! Thank you Shad, Nate and Tyranth
Wow, this channel is actually moving up in my feed!
Notice the barrels in game are heavily decade and/or water logged
Try the E key.
This reminds me of that episode of Immersion when Gavin and Michael were trying to break boxes half life style.
hmm like to have gif of that roling barel with cool sound you make and the barrel one ';]
The content we wanted and needed. 10/10
Nice choice of weapons. I also liked how it took multiple people.
Begs the question how viable barrel armor would be lol
Barrels are tough, I can imagine alot of video games wont be the same after this.
Barrels are the tanks in medieval rpgs
I don't think I ever saw the long video for this one.
Nice
So I learned that dark souls barrels must have no lids.
My personal favorite is Dark Souls, where slightly brushing by a barrel with your leg makes barrels spontaneously explode, as long as you're rolling.
This was a fun video. Made me go back and rewatch it.😊
I love ALL THE SHADLANDS videos!!!! ❤
Dear Lord, sound levels.
After the first weapons did nothing I was wondering how the good old Becky would do xD
It makes sense, considering a barrel will store goods and fluids for decades and in some cases even centuries.
Stick good? Only stick+stuff could beat your round, bounded sticks.
In many games the barrels are actually very old (thousands of years). This implies that the wood would be degraded and much easier to break.
Well, in defense of videogames, perhaps the barrels within said videogames were rotting, thus making them weak enough to be more easily smashed to pieces?
Fantastic video!
So, does that mean you make armor out of a barrel?
smashing good time.
That was awesome !! Anyone who has played Donkey Kong or any other video game involving barrels have lied to us ! Barrels are tough !!
i love the supercut vids! I can watch more of your content when vids are shorter
