The one thing a lot of people miss when they watch the movie is that when Peeta is waving out of the train right after talking to Hamitch, he's playing to the possible sponsors. One of his strong points is that he's good with people, making him a foil to Katniss, and it's important through the book series.
I thought that was obvious? I did read the books though so maybe that’s why I immediately knew what Peeta was doing. However even without reading the books, I thought it was pretty obvious based on Katniss’s reaction to him waving and based on what Haymitch said to Katniss about how Peeta knew how to play into the crowd and win them over for sponsors.
Thresh and Rue weren’t related, but as two tributes from the same district, especially with Thresh being so much older I think he might have had a sense of protectiveness over her. I think personally he was beating himself up that she died especially when the announcement was made
If he managed to protect her until the end he would let her win. Makes me wonder why Rue and Thresh didnt ally from the start, I guess they have very different styles
@@vinichenzo4811 they probably couldn’t find each other since we didn’t see Thresh again til he killed Clove when she said Rue’s name and Rue was hiding in the trees. And if they did he probably told Rue to stay hidden and let everyone else kill each other so she doesn’t get hurt.
The arrogant boy (Cato) is only that way because he was brainwashed to think that the games were a good and fun thing to do. He's been training his whole life for them, and he doesn't know how to do anything but kill. That's why his death is so sad, the speech at the end. Just listen to his words at the end. Kill me. That's all I'm good for, right? I'm dead anyway. I didn't know that 'till now. Come on! I could still do this. One last kill. I could still do this. It's all they ever wanted, right? One last kill. That's all I'm good for, right? Bring pride to your district. It's heartbreaking. Many people wonder what made him realize, and I think it was the death of his friends. We don't know if he was close to Glimmer or Marvel, but we don't see him grieving for them when they die. We do see him beg Clove to stay with him, though (in the books), so maybe they knew each other. I don't know if they were close, but knowing someone and having them die in your arms must've messed him up pretty bad. Maybe that's when something clicked.
i'm pretty sure that clove and cato were dating/in love in the books and that's why he was so torn up over her death, and why he was running to get to her when she called for him to come help her when she was about to be killed by thresh.
“Oh He didn’t give her any food.” No, that was a few years ago after Katniss’ father was killed. She was still too afraid to go deep into the wood to find game and she and her family were slowly starving to death. It’s been a while since I read the books but I think she was running out energy and that’s why she was outside the bakery in the rain. Peeta has been in love with her since they were 5, so when he saw her out there he purposely (or at least Katniss thinks it was on purpose) burns the bread so he’d have to throw it to the pigs. But instead he throws it to her and that saved her and her family from starving to death.
Peeta confirms in book 3 that he remembers burning the bread on purpose. Katniss was trying to sell baby clothes of Prim to buy food but Nobody wanted any and she realized that they would starve, so she was searching in the garbage bins of the merchant houses in town, but they were just emptied and she breaks down there.
The reason his name was in 42 times is because they have the option to put their name in the drawing multiple times in exchange for meager rations. They were starving. He had to put his name in to help feed Katniss and her family. It was explained in the books.
I think Peeta gave rations out often to many families and groups that distributed in the black market because he thought it was shameful how his family had a class advantage over other district 12 families. Thats how his name was in.
Gale supported his own family, he had two younger brothers, a sister and his mother to take care of after his father died. He went hunting to help them out and in the woods he met Katniss and after a while they were hunting together, sharing the kills and everything.
@@molliebowling7029 There is no information in the books about Peetas number. He was in the upper class, so its safe to assume that he didn't have had to put his name in additionally. So there were probably 5 cards with his name, for his 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th birthday. Noone put his name in the bowl more than they absolutely had to.
Bros hearing 😂😂 “24 people? I thought they said 13 districts?!?” Literally 40 seconds after they explain it was destroyed. “Is that real fire!?!” 20 seconds after they said it was fake lol. love it.
The game makers aren’t exactly trying to rig it so the district 1-4 tributes win it’s just that a lot of circumstances align for them. So district 1-4 all produce or make or provide goods and services considered particularly desirable/valuable by the capital so the capital treats them better than the others meaning even the average kid from that district is usually in better physical condition than the other districts. On top of this they have a custom/ process in place where as they explained kids enter into special school training them to participate in the games for glory and then those kids volunteer when they reach the max age. Finally with the fire stuff that’s just something the game makers do when any tribute or group of tributes gets to far away from any other tribute or group of tributes or to close to the edge of the arena. It’s basically to force excitement not rig a winner.
The capitol targeted Prim as the youngest daughter of a resistance member, Mr. Everdeen. They were waiting for her to be old enough to have her name in the reaping. Katniss doesn't get it until later, but i think her mom knew all along.
I understand why they all acted out, because killing a 13-15 year old is sad but you can move on, but killing a twelve year old, actually a 17 or 18 yr old killing a 12 year old is heartbreaking buts it's the hunger games what you expect 😭
Good idea to hide through The Games, however the Gamemakers would set off death traps to bring tributes closer together if no one dies after a period of time. So hiding works but don’t get too comfortable.
Not sure if anybody said this yet but the weird dog creatures at the end in the books they had the other members of districts faces on them so it’s even more disturbing in the books. Highly recommend reading the books even at 23 I still enjoy them.

It’s really quite interesting how different people can think. There are several plot points that you initially misread and it makes me realize the movie didn’t explain things quite as well as it could’ve.
The reason district 13 doesn’t compete is because now it doesn’t really exist (until you get to the 3rd book) it got destroyed when they tried to rebel from the capitol
Gamemakers will kill tributes on purpose it has been done before but typically they just try to keep the tributes together. One of the known tributes purposefully killed by gamermakers was Titus, they did it because he had started eating other tributes when he killed them and they didn’t want him to win. They had triggered an avalanche to do it since the arena they were in was snowy.
Great series. I find it funny how another movie series from around the same years as Hunger Games, the Divergent movie series, feels like a copycat that tried and failed to be anywhere as iconic as Hunger Games.
Your right about the districts, the lower the number the poorer the district. The reason people like Cato win is because his district and districts 2 and sometimes 4 get fight training before they enter the games so they have a higher chance, whereas the lower districts are always more likely to die due to lack of training and no nutrition throughout their life.
