Using & Editing an Export Template - CustomCat App Tutorial

  • To use or edit an export template within your CustomCat account, you’ll begin by selecting the store the template was created for.
    Next, click “Add Product” which will bring you into our Add Product flow.
    At the far right, click the “Templates” tab to open a list of your created templates.
    If you’d like to view the products included in your template, click on it’s title in your template list on the left.
    Next, you’ll select the “Apply Template” icon either from your template list, or next to the title on a selected template.
    This will bring you to Step 2 of the Add Product flow. All the product data you included when creating the template is already saved, including product title, color & size variants, & tags.
    From here, you’ll select a design (either from your design library or directly from your computer). You can apply your design to all products in your template at once, or select separate artwork for each individual product.
    Lastly, you’ll export your products to your store.

    To Edit a template, you’ll start with the same steps. When selecting your template, you have the ability to modify the name of your template by clicking the Edit button next to the title.
    Once your template is selected, you’ll be brought to Step 2 of the Add Product flow, where you can change any product details you’d like.
    To save them for future use, you’ll follow the same process as when you created your template initially: Select the products & click “Create Export Template” from the dropdown menu.
    By adding a design & exporting your products, your template will be saved for future use.
    Keep in mind that this does not overwrite the original template. If you’d like to remove the previous template, click the red X next to the name of the template in your template list.
    And that’s it! You’ve successfully used & edited your template.

    The CustomCat user interface is very arduous. In the previous video we added a product and created a template. However, in the above video, now that we've gone into the template, the design that we previously used and saved isn't there! We have to add the design all over again?
    1) We should be able to use Add a Product, add the design and simply save it as a template - no crazy exporting shenanigans - and then have them appear under a main menu item called - you guess it - Templates or "My Templates".
    2) The design window is very small. Even on a decent laptop, we can't zoom in much and aligning isn't straightforward.
    3) The mockups are very "computery" looking.
    Having upgraded to DigitSoft, I hope CustomCat will seriously consider updating the user interface and user experience. My wife keeps telling me, "If it's so difficult to add a product using CustomCat, just use someone else." I told her that I'm (painfully) persevering because I want the DigiSoft print quality.

      Hi there -- thanks so much for your feedback!
      First, we want to let you know that we have an update coming in a matter of days that will allow you to easily view/edit & re-export your products from the CustomCat platform. Hopefully this solves your main concern about not being able to find your products after export. Next, we want to clarify a few points.
      1) Exporting a product is our terminology for publishing a product. The act of exporting is required to save a template, but that also pushes the product to your ecommerce store, so there's no need to recreate it.
      2) Templates are used to help you to quickly create new listings using the template skeleton that include listing information such as variant selections, updated descriptions, product tags, categories, etc. This way, you can quickly build new products without revisiting all the minutiae of the listing -- just add a design & export.
      3) We plan to revamp our designer in 2023 to make it easier to design your products with confidence.
      4) New mockups are in the works as well.
      We're just as excited about DIGISOFT as you are & eager to elevate our platform so its easier for ecommerce business owners to take advantage of the incredible quality. Thank you so much again for your feedback & stay tuned for some exciting updates!

    I click Template and I get an error page. "Error Processing Request."

      Hi Bud -- this error may occur if you haven't yet created a template. The template tab is for selecting the templates you've already created to create new listings.
