    Brand New 2000-2018. "I wanna stay 18 forever" Drops Mic

      But yeah maybe you saw them on a bad night? Not sure. I saw them twice in 2015, once in Orlando, again at ACL. Their ACL show was meh, but the Orlando show was best concert I've ever been to. Spectacular crowd and crowd interaction

      And yeah, Vincent 'experiments' a lot on guitar lol. I don't mind it, but yeah I definitely get why it could be annoying to you haha

    I love their calm approach to their breakup. it really reflects their coming of age, and their growing maturity we've gotten to see through the albums. I saw them live last month and i can absolutely agree with you that the feeling wasn't there. the fans didn't really have energy and neither did they. (except when they played limousine and sowing season. those two had an incredible amount of feeling at my show) I am also really glad that they're making this graceful final fall out of the music scene.

    • @corndog9932
      @corndog9932 8 років тому +2

      and yeah, in my show they didn't really interact too much. the show you went to also had modern baseball and the front bottoms right? I would really love to hear your opinion on their live performances if you listened. I felt like their stage presence was huge and that they have really great potential.

    I mean 18 years is a long ass time. And really it's better to end it when you think the creative well is dry instead of milking popularity for years on end as a cash ploy (like a ton of big bands from the 70s, 80s and even 90s do)

    when I saw them over the summer, what struck me about the show was the audience. people around me were crying and singing at the top of their lungs and you could feel the nostalgia in the air.

    Saw them last January with at-the-time gf, when they were promoting I am a Nightmare; We both were both big fans of the band, and the feel from the concert gave me the chance to really think about the relationship. I needed it, and it takes effort, but I can still tell myself I'm happy it's over

    the night i saw them jesse gave a speech at the end about the passing of leonard cohen which was very emotional, besides that there wasn't too much talking but i really didn't mind, i feel like they're the type of band that can carry a stage presence with the music alone, unlike bands such as blink i don't think they need to talk or joke a lot because their music is so strong and hits you so hard. i didn't jump around or mosh or even sing much but i sat back and listened to the entirety of the devil and god and i truly felt every song, the way i hadn't been feeling them all before. i think that was the night i truly fell in love with the entire album as a whole, i had loved it before but now it's one of my favorites after seeing them perform. the break up is completely understandable and they have put out a fantastic discography, so even if they don't put out a fifth album (i think they will though) what they've already given us is enough.

    Overall, Brand New is a fantastic band! I just absolute love their music! It's sad to seem them to go, but it's okay. Even though they're breaking up, I'm going to listen them until I die. I'd like to show my future children their music. Defiantly, will start with The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me. I hope to seem them live at least once before the break up. They will always be one of the best bands out there in the alternative scene!

    i saw brand new at their second show of this tour, in their home state (mine as well) of new york. i think thats what made it such a phenomenal show for me. the band wasnt tired out yet, and i was absolutely the youngest person there so id guess i was surrounded by long time fans. for me, it was insanely good. every note was perfect, seriously, look up videos from the october 14 show. brand new has been such an influential band for me for a number of years, and though im still young, im mostly grateful im old enough to see them live even once. i mostly want them to be happy. and if that means splitting my second favorite band of all time, then so be it.

    i saw them live twice so far, first time on a festival, they literally said nothing to the crowd, not even hello, goodbye or thank you, not a single word, and that kinda bothered me. The second time i saw them was at a concert, in an actual concert room with more people and stuff and there they were more talking to us and connecting.. i guess it really depends on when and where you see them, whether or not they are interacting with the public.. I still hope to see them live as much as i can since it is one of my favorite bands of all time :)

    I'm really not surprised that you thought it was a bad show considering that Brand New is a very hit or miss band live. I saw them live twice, In 2010 or 2014, And they we're drastically different in terms of Quality. I really don't think this was a sign of why there breaking up, more like a harsh truth about a band that you really don't want to know.

    Brand New is one of those bands that absolutely exploded on tumblr and I think they were made to be this band that they just weren't and felt like they had to pander to an audience they didn't understand and I think they just lost the passion to make music

    • @toddchavez5671
      @toddchavez5671 7 років тому +1

      I don't think they've ever been a band that cared too much about pandering to an audience, I mean every album has been completely different to the last. I think it's more likely they've just ran out of things to say, and maybe don't want to fake it.

They definitely must've been burnt out by the time you saw them, because I felt that their energy for every song was there the whole time. I saw them back in 2007 on a festival, shortly after the devil and god release. they solely played slow/midtempo songs. the crowd wasn't amused because of that. Most of them were expecting songs from their first record or at least sic transit or the quiet things but the band was completely on the devil and god train. I think this album received more appreciation only over the years (also from me), and now it's one of my favorite records of all time too. the 2nd time I saw brand new was in 2014, they had an awesome setlist with songs from each record, very enjoyable. But I agree with you: It's time for them to call it a day.

  • @spikeman62
    @spikeman62 8 років тому

    I saw them on the second night of the tour and there was little fan interaction as well. The most notable thing Jesse said was to tell people to stop clapping during Archers (I think it was that one). That cracked me up a bit. I definitely agree with your points about how it would have been nice to see a little more emotion and fan interaction. But it was still amazing to hear "The Devil and God..." from front to back. Hearing 'Limousine' live was euphoric.
    Side note: What are your thoughts on the openers Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms? The Front Bottoms are one of my favorite bands, so I was just as pumped to see them as well, even if it wasn't their normal full set.

    Saw them in Connecticut on this tour; and have to say I agree, which was kinda disappointing since it was my first time seeing them after being a huge fan since high school. Crowd was very passive after that 5 song mini set before they played the album (which is the only time I really saw any interest). Lights were cool, sound was great, but for this grand, polarizing band I expected a little more rawness.

    They stopped by my area last October, but I didn't get to go since the tickets were sold out and I didn't have $400+ to buy them from idiotic scalpers from StubHub. I highly doubt they'll do another U.S. tour next year or any time before they split up, but seeing videos of the concert on UA-cam and I can see the lack of passion from their set. This band had a place in my emo teen years and will always have a place in my forever emo heart.

    I saw them on November 1st in Vegas and out of all the concerts I've seen they were for sure one of the best. They couldn't outdo Twenty One Pilots for me but they were pretty damn close. Not to mention the fact that The Front Bottoms and Modern Baseball two of the best bands ever were the openers. I though their energy was epic and heartfelt and absolutely amazing. It was a great show. And this concert honestly has gotten me into their music more than anything else. Jesus Christ is the only song that I knew any of the lyrics for at the concert, and that experience really opened me up to the album a lot more. I am disappointed significantly that they are breaking up, for they mean more to me now than they ever have in the past, but I understand how these things work and it is okay. I'll honestly be a little upset if there isn't one more new album but that's okay too. Rest In Peace is all I really have to say. I believe them to be important to the history of the emo scene and music in general, and they left a mark worth remembering.

    I loved the weird guitar work they added into the songs on this tour. I mean I've heard the record a ton and listened straight through most times that I do listen so those moments, especially during a huge Breakdown at the end of You Won't Know (I think), really made their performance amazing for me. Also they did a cool post-rock outro at the Portland, ME show that made me wish they'd just start making post-rock under a new name.

    Honestly...I never really got into Brand New despite being a fan of emo/emo-related genres...Probably should go back and listen to them a bit ;) (and can totally respect their decision to break up :3)

    They weren't really interactive when I saw them either. I am really glad I saw them live though.

    They kind of went inactive for a bit after 2010 so I've had time to prepare! Sucks they weren't into it when you saw them. I saw them past June in Montreal and they were pretty into it and the crowd response was amazing.
    I've only seen them twice though due to their inactivity coming to Canada. Once was shortly after Daisy was released in 2009 and the second time as i mentioned this past June. That's a 7 year gap!
    Also YOU GOT TO SEE THE JULIEN BAKER COVER. so cool

    I totally agree that they're worn out, when I went to the Nashville show, energy was missing. Though the audience experience I had, I feel was better because they came out for an encore. They completely winged at the encore, which was really different, because it was a You Wont Know and he carried it out for a while, then just said thanks and left.
    Also from what I remember, a lot of the audience was shouting for them to play Welcome to Bangkok, and at this point I just thought they didn't give a shit, they just wanted to get it done. It was still an amazing show though.

    I saw them in San Jose, Ca ok Halloween during this 10 year tour and they were fantastic. They talked a lot surprisingly. They were dressed up as Waldo, Jesse said degausser baby, he said holy shit when someone dressed up as Jesus crowdsurfed by during Jesus, they played all the songs Great, a lot of emotion, and they played it backwards. And once they reached millstone he said this has been the devil and god are raging inside me and more. They were fantastic I loved them so maybe it was just an off day cause he even thanked mobo and the front bottoms and they played untitled at the end thanking everyone for everything over the years.

    The few times I saw Brand New this last tour it was pretty amazing but you could tell that they weren't as energetic and into it as they have been the past, I remember the second to last concert on the last tour they really did interact at that show, I mean Jesse even had to give a little puke speech and we got monster mash during Degausser, honestly it's gonna suck when they break up but it's gonna be ok cause they have family's, Jesse doesn't wanna do this when he's 40 and so on they have plenty of reasons for not wanting to do this any more.

    Perhaps in the long outro the vocalist (Jesse, is it?) was tuning his guitar. It usually goes out of tune live.

    I've seen them 5 times first in 2003 last was the beginning of 09 the last 2 they play almost every song including the demos and bought a bride at the last one which was almost a year before daisy came out. They did the outkast hey fellas what's cooler than being cold and the crowd goes ice cold then hey ladies what's cooler than being cold ice cold alright alright alright instead of is that what you call tact ..... that was in 2003 at clausefest at Hammerstein ballroom but they react to the crowd somewhat everytime I've seen them

    I saw Brand New live yeeears ago, and I did not enjoy it at all. they had very little crowd interaction, maybe spoke to the crowd twice and were not energetic at all. I wasn't impressed, but they still remain on one of my favorite bands. Sorry you had a similar show, I think they're dislike of touring just really shows when they perform.
