can you help me how to wide angle or landscape when recording..thanks
Hey John, thanx for your videos, they are really helpfull. In your test, which camera is better in low light situations: Nex-F3 or the RX100 . Thank you again
Want kind of Zooms does the Nex-F3 have that are similar to the Sx50 for long zoom? Thank You.
ok thanks a lot, your videos are real helpful to me..
Also can you reccomend a good midrange fish eye lens for the nex f3 ? thanks mate
Hey John, great review. I have a question. I have the NEX-F3 and I love it, great photos and stuff, but I was wondering if it can record slow motion, I know it can go to a high frame rate but even with 1/4000 I couldnt seem to get any slight slow motion coming out of my file when I tried to slow it down with final cut. is this a problem with the software or is there another way to get slow motion out of it? or can the nex-f3 not record slow motion like the nikon J series. please respond, thanks
hi john, thanks for posting this video. i am looking buy this Sony NEX-F3 but before I do that , i wanna ask were u able to use other dslr lenses with this camera? Coz i currently have the Sony alpha200 dslr with 3 extra lenses... was wondering if it wud fit. lemme know if you have tried it. thanks.
Hey John I need your help! I'm not getting into serious photography, but I wanted a camera that could take clear, crisp shots, anything better than my cellphone camera. I'm debating on whether to get the Nex-F3 or the Canon SX50 HS, which is better? I like the Sx50 for its long zoom but I also like the Nex-f3 for its design, size and interchangeable lenses. Help please!
I have a question, I want to buy this camera to mostly take pictures of idols like concerts, album signing events etc. is the zoom enough to take close clear pictures when zoomed? Please answer.
Hi John, I love this camera but in bright sunshine does the screen tilt to make it easier to see?? I love the Sony RX100 but heavily priced. Is the F3 great for taking macro shots?? We also have the SLT A57. I just want something smaller to carry around but not too expensive.
Brilliant. Thanks for your advice!!
Do you recommend this camera for new photographers?
Hi john, have you ever came across some kind of adapter for the f3 to effectively trigger an external flash? If so please let me know and thanks for your videos.
Hi...i want to update my photography, but i cant buy a dslr...is this camera good enough to ensure this update? does the pic quality equal dslr pic quality?
i can't decide weather to get the rx 100 mainly because of its size or this nex f3. How does the image quality compare?
Hey I'm really wanting to purchase a new Camera, would you pick the RX100 or the NEX F3? Thanks! Love your videos.
In your opinion, what evil camera is the best for video recording? I was looking into the F3 or 5R, but I don't know. I like of the grip on the camera a lot! anything that has a grip is good like a dlsr has.
I'm trying to decide between the Sony Nex F3 and Canon Powershot sx50. I'm not a professional photographer but wanting an upgrade from p&s camera with great image quality. Need advice! Thank you :)
Thanks man .. Im going to buy it today !
i bought a fujifilm s2500hd and i want to go up a level in something that would pick up good colours would you recomend this to me
ooh also i heard about over exposed colors...do u face this problem with this camera?
I was wondering about the auto focus. You mentioned it wasn't that fast. What CSC have a faster auto focus with the same level of quality the Sony F3 offers? Any ideas?
i have been asking this in some forums. almost all of them were suggesting the 5n over the f3 due to the slightly better picture quality produced by the 5n. and because the 5n is a higher in the NEX line up. can you sight the advantages of the f3 over the 5n and why you chose it? thank you very much!
Just got my f3k, still charging. Let's c how it handles later!
im getting this soon!
Is this camera as good as a Nikon D3100 or one of those big DSLR's? I want to get into the photography business but I dont want too many manual controls. I just want a simple camera that can take great quality like the big cameras. Does it have blurred backgrounds, professional quality, professional quality video, etc.??
Which is the new version os the Nex F3? Or which want can I get with the same functions than this one or better?
The last firmware update with the camera was at V1.01. Unfortunately there wasn't really anything else that makes the camera better.
Hi John- Do you think the F3 is worth buying or would you rather go for the NEX 6? I will be using the camera for everyday family use (kids sports, birthday parties ect.)
Thank you!
Have it a Mic input?
Hello John, I've got a question. I'm choosing between NEX-F3/NEX-5N and SLT-A37 cameras. I know the advantages and disadvantages of these cameras, but the most important thing for me is the image quality - as I see from sample photos(500px.com, flickr, reviews etc.) NEX cameras are better at ISO performance and color reproduction. What can you say about these cameras image quality? Is the difference between SLT-A37 and these NEXs noticable? I'm so confused..
I agree with you on that. That's why they came out with the 16-50mm power zoom lens. Its a new kit lens that replaces the 18-55mm.
I'm looking into either the next 5N or F3...all my research have pros and coins of both an I really can't decide. Don't care about recording video or the LCD screen or sports photos. All I care about is taking great photos, especially in low light. Please let me know your opinion. Thx
Not at all, but if you do come across this problem its the metering modes that need to be changed or you can change the exposure by underexposing in the settings.
Would you recommend nex 5 or nex f3 for vlogging or streaming and stuff
I would probably go with the a6100 as minimum for streaming because those cameras may overheat if it's in an area where it might be too hot.
How is the Zoom?
Nice! I'm sure you'll be very happy with that camera! Enjoy!
It really depends how far you are from the stage. If you're really far, I would recommend the 55-210mm lens which is good for shots that are far away and plus with the clear image zoom on the NEX-F3, it'll allow you to get even closer. So if you decide to get this camera, get the twin lens kit. Hope that helps.
Great love your vids
It really depends on the lens you are using. If you get this camera with the kit lens, you will be getting an 18-55mm zoom lens which is good for casual snapshots but not great for zooming in on objects that are at a distance.
It doesn't till as much as the NEX-5R but tilting the screen down would help it a bit. The kit lens does a decent job at macro photography but a specialized lens will be better which is the 30mm f3.5. That allows you to focus closer to your subject.
face it up flash is great idea. thanks!
No worries =.) The only fish eye you can get for the NEX range is by getting the 16mm f2.8 lens and attaching the fish eye converter to it which works pretty well.
Great review! I love my Nex F3 :-)
Hi. The NEX-F3 will be slightly better in low light, mainly because the sensor has been tweaked and is of course a newer model. However, the NEX-5R which replaces the 5N may be worth waiting for as that is an entirely different sensor than the F3 and may or may not be better in low light.
hello. im planning to buy camera for events and concerts too. let me know if you have decided what to buy :)
I would probably say the NEX-5R would be the best for video. Mainly because you have manual controls allowing you to change your shutter speed, aperture and ISO but also you can use the touch screen whilst filming to set your focus point and it works pretty well too.
Hi! Your Alpha lenses will only fit if you get an adaptor. The LA-EA2 will let you mount your Alpha lenses on this camera with quick autofocus. I have reviewed the adaptor which you can also check out on my channel. There is also another adaptor called the LA-EA1 but the autofocus is slow and I don't recommend it unless you plan to use manual focus. Hope that helps!
Is better on the F3 than others you mean?
There are no zooms that meet the focal length of the SX50 as that is a 24-1200mm. The longest one in a zoom lens is the 18-200mm.
The NEX-5N has been replaced by the NEX-5R and the NEX-F3 will sit below this model. If you check out my blog (link in description) you'll be able to see my quick preview there. The NEX-F3 would be a great camera to start with but if you want WIFI and faster autofocus the NEX-5R would be the way to go. However the NEX-5R doesn't have the built in flash.
Does it have a mic port?
No mic input unfortunately.
yeah nice video! i have sony nex F3 and i love it.
If image quality is what you're going for then the NEX F3 will be the better choice as it has the same sized sensor as DSLR cameras and the sensor in the Canon sx50 has a smaller one but it does have the convenience of a long zoom.
Yeah definitely recommend this one. You can find this for a very good price now.
Nex f3 or nex 5n?
There are a couple of ways. One way is to get an eye-fi memory card and download the free app to instantly transfer your images over wifi or the other way is to get a sd card reader for your ipad mini and transfer your photos from the sd card directly.
The image quality and low light performance will definitely be better on the NEX-F3 because it has a larger sensor but it doesn't have a long zoom like the SX50 has. If you want a long zoom on the NEX-F3, the lens will be larger too. Let me know if you have any other questions.
HELLO PLEASE RESPOND BACK....I CAN'T AUTO-FOCUS ON MY SONY NEX F3. EVEN WHEN I HAVE THE LENS ATTACHED, IT SAYS IT CAN'T RECOGNIZE MY LENS...I DON"T UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S DOING THAT.
+Nathalie Johnson Have you tried using another lens to see if works? The contacts of the lens may be dirty so perhaps give that a bit of a clean. If that doesn't work, you may need to get the lens serviced or perhaps the camera. Depending on if it works with another lens.
I had ordered a used Sony Nex f3, and a Fotasy 35 mm E-mount lens. The lens is fine and it fits perfectly on the camera. But for some reason certain features are disabled on the camera, such as "auto-focus" and I don't know why. I went on multiple forums to see if anyone could relate to my problem, but it didn't help. Neither did talking to a Sony customer service representative.
If you're on a budget, the F3 will be sufficient especially for your needs. If you want a viewfinder built in, wifi and downloadable apps, then the NEX 6 will be the one to go with.
Was that answer to both of our questions? ;)
Thanks! =.)
I think I would pick the RX100. Its size is perfect for the occasional snappy shots and image quality approaches the NEX cameras. If I wanted to expand my creativity though I would pick the NEX-F3 because I can change the lenses.
Image quality will be just as good as the Nikon D3100 and in some cases even better. You're really getting a camera that can give you DSLR type images in a smaller body and its a very easy camera to use. You can blur the backgrounds and take professional quality photos. As for video, it doesn't have any external mic inputs so you can't use an external microphone but video quality is very good and is all automated so you don't have to fiddle around with any manual controls.
Yes it does. That is because the sensor this camera uses is the same size as a normal DSLR.
If you're comparing the images side by side without knowing which one took the photo, you'd have a hard time telling which is which. Like you said, the NEX cameras are slightly better with high ISO performance but in good lighting conditions they're very similar.
The kit lens will probably negate some of its low light capabilities.G1X seems to have a better lens but the NEX cameras are known to have better sensors. Its a bit of a tradeoff between the two.
Sydney, Australia.
Nex-F3 or Nex-5N?
I'd probably go with the NEX-F3.
The NEX-F3 will be better at low light situations because it has a larger sensor.
Yes it does.
The F3 will have better image quality overall and better low light performance but if you want portability in a compact camera with image quality approaching a DSLR or an NEX then the RX100 is the way to go.
I'd go for the F3 over the 5N.
CSC cameras from Olympus and Panasonic are faster than the F3 however, image quality and low light performance is better than the micro four thirds cameras.
Definitely the NEX-F3. It has better image quality and low light performance.
why don't they put pancake lenses on these small cameras? It defeats the purpose of portability with all these huge lenses...
It's a great camera...i have this one. You can look at my fotos on my page
Definitely NEX-5R
Yeah sorry, I mean the F3 is better than Olympus and Panasonics cameras in terms of overall image quality and lowlight performance
The NEX-F3 doesn't have the ability to shoot slow motion video.
No it doesn't unfortunately.
