If they (class 1A) did research about his past or just asked him they'd realize that( "that" as in "You should never judge a book by it's cover). Abuse being normalized in his household is a big factor for why he is the way he is. Also, since his Mom in his eyes, was never proud of him (she was she just doesn't know how to properly and healthily show it) he looks for other forms of validation outside of his household; Which is why when Deku doesn't think he's amazing as they grow older Katsuki is hurt by this and shows it off in horrible ways, such as "If you really want to be a hero, there might be another way. Pray that you'll be born with a quirk in his next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building." Honestly Katsuki is like any other kid. But, he is also similar to villains, "Villains were just kids who weren't saved..." - ????, someone in the 2001 century. P.S. He doesn't love himself, he hates himself, he just covers it up with the whole "I am better than you" act. Also, the fact that Deku doesn't obey him like everyone else undermines his whole idea about him being the best and reveals a vulnerability, and reveals his true self. Deku shows him that he is weak. *That* is why he (think's he) loathes Deku. TL;DR Kat is just a kid who wasn't saved. He's just like every other kid he just doesn't get help when he askes/ needs it.
