I have this exact bike and bought it in the summer of 1991. It looks almost as good as it did the day that I bought it from the shop. It's been super reliable and robust. It has NEVER given me a problem and I've ridden it for thousands of miles. I wish Schwinn still made bikes like this that were affordable and reliable.

Schwinn fielded a team in the Grocery Getter Hybrid Criterium Series. Most races were set up as an "out and back" format, where riders road to a convenience store, jumped off their bikes, grab a half gallon of milk and a dozen cartoned eggs, loaded them onto their rack, and then sprinted back to finish at the same line used for the start. Points were based on a complicated calculation of your time minus penalty points for spilled milk and cracked eggs. It was mostly an American thing, and never really caught on in the Euro bike racing scene, probably because their inadequate amount of convenient stores. Surprised that a bike aficionado like yourself is unfamiliar with race series.

I bought mine in the late 80s. Still have mine as well and they are good bikes.

I own the same bike. The paint is actually a very dark metallic green. Excellent ride for the money.
Just finished fixing a bike just like this and sold it for $155 (Canadian). Great bike, nice ride.
