  • Scott Laughton of the Philadelphia Flyers is a realistic trade option for the Sabres.

Some other names for the 3C slot from the Western Conference - Jason Dickenson, Mikael Backlund, Jaden Schwartz, Chandler Stephenson, Sean Monahan, and Adam Lowry. All of the focus seems to be on players in the EC, but these are teams that the Sabres will likely be battling with for the playoffs. At one point last season, 5 or 6 teams were battling for the final playoff spot in the EC, so I don't see much point in helping conference rivals potentially extend the Sabres' playoff drought.

May be realistic, I just don't think Laughton is good. If you compare him to the third line centers on the playoff teams, he's on the low end if not the worst. That's our competition. I just don't think he's good enough to make a difference.

Sorry No interest in Patrick Kane at all. Adams said in his season ending presser that he is going after a 3rd line centre and a 4th line winger with some grit . Question is does Adam bring in a 3rd line veteran winger or does he give the spot to a prospect like Kulich, Rosen or Savoie .
3rd line centre, i love your Jenner idea but i doubt CBJ trades their Captain . Instead Id trade for Sam Bennett FLA who will be looking to dump salary to resign Reinhart and Montour. Id also look at Winnipeg, are they resigning Toffoli & Monahan, if so then trade for Cole Perfetti who can play either wing or 3rd line centre . If i was trading with Philly Id go after Morgan Frost and not Scott Laughton who I think at best is a 4th line centre.
4th line winger im looking at UFA Ryan Lomberg FLA, or Dakota Joshua Van.
Put either one of them with Greenway and Krebs ( i assume Adams is resigning him?) And you have a very good 4th line.
Lastly if Adams doesnt think any of his prospects are ready the 3rd line winger spot then I hope he looks at Jake Debrusk Boston who is UFA.
    Thanks for the video.
PS , question do you think Adams brings in a veteran D man( UFA Tanev Dallas or Pesce Carolina) to partner Owen Power or is he going with Sammuelsson on the left side and Power on the right side?

Here's the consensus: changes are necessary! Last year's bottom 6 was possibly the worst in the league. In addition, the Sabres have the softest "big" guys in Tage, Greenway, Power, and Tuch. They need more real size, grit, and toughness. Nobody in Rochester is ready to fill those roles. Kevyn Adams has got to change his mindset that small skilled guys can win the Stanley Cup.

We are one of the tallest teams in the league. Go look at the numbers. The younger guys just need to grow into their bodies.

So #11 overall, Jokiharju, and a prospect for Laughton and #32 overall. That’s depressing. Then in your article, you project a 3rd line of Skinner-Laughton-Quinn.??? That’s even more depressing. We have cap space, an overabundance of prospects, and our draft pick cupboard is full. I really hope Adams aims higher than Scott Laughton.

I appreciate the realism with signings and trades, Lance. A lot of people tend to forget that anything involving trades or signings requires two sides; the team and the player. Right now, the ladder isn't really interested in comparison to the former. Unless they want to sink more awful contract terms down the organizations throat.

They wouldn’t have had to add another center if Adams would have simply not traded Middlestadt.

He will want more money than he’s worth. It was a great hockey trade.

@@bjarczyk Casey is expected to demand about $6 Million per year for 3 years, as he is still a restricted free agent at only 25 years old. The Avs would like to sign him at that cost, want him as their #2 center and as a franchise are still way ahead of the Sabres as legitimate Cup contenders. In fact any team that fancies itself as a legitimate Stanley Cup contender in 2024 had better have at least $6 Million budgeted for its 2nd line center. Bo Byram’s potential notwithstanding (although he’ll certainly be looking for his payday soon if he plays as well as expected and Buffalo already has quite a bit of cap space invested on their D), I’m very interested in comparing whoever ends up as Lindy’s #2 center against Casey In Colorado this full upcoming season, both stats wise and payroll wise.

I think the lesson of watching former Sabres thrive on other already developed teams is we need to stay the course. Once our young team grow into men we will start dominating, and they’ll be locked in for years.

@@bjarczyk Outstanding take! I thought the Sabs had that young rising team before Terry Pegula and his moronic team doctors decided to refuse Jack Eichel the back surgery he and his family decided on, and….Kevyn Adams decided Sammy Reinhart and his 57 goals this season in Florida wasn’t worth the money. Toss in Ryan O’Reilly losing his love for hockey and all of that added up to the beginning of THIS current talented young core you and me both hope Adams stays the course with.

Adams needs to step up or move out. Jost,Robinson, olofsson, awful. We're not hard for any team to push around. Our top guys got mugged and injured. Grit size pushback. He actually played hockey? How sad. Don't need stars. Need backbone pushback good hockey. Playoff hockey? Look at Florida

I like your suggestions. My only concerns are the age of any player you bring in. I think people need to be realistic. The Sabres are NOT winning the Cup next year. They aren't winning it the year after either. Hell, they haven't made the playoffs for 13 straight years. WHOEVER you get, they have to either be a bridge player (like you said in the Ostlund hypothetical situation) or they have to NOT BE OLD! 30+ year old players don't help. I'm not looking to make the playoffs, JUST TO END A STREAK. I need a guy who will be here for at least THREE years. There needs to be some tread on the tire. People who bring up the big name dinosaurs, like Kane are crazy. Or Stamkos. Or any other big name really old player.
I wish Adams luck, cause this isn't an EASY problem to solve. This offseason may define his tenure as GM. And it might cost him his job, if he messes it up. He has work to do, has LOTS of assets but it's not OBVIOUS how to complete the build of this team. I hope he gets it right. I'm not sure I would.

It would be ridiculous to fire Adams. He already built an incredible roster with what we have. Young players need time. It’s amazing that our fans don’t see this looking at how good our former players have become. If he keeps his job this plan will work.

I think this offseason WILL define his tenure. He dealt himself this hand by rolling the dice on what he had last year and they came up snake eyes.

Along with another person posting here, I, too, question the Mittelstadt trade. The Sabres should have kept him, and prioritized offloading Skinner.
I actually like Skinner, but Buffalo won’t be able to carry his contract much longer. What about sending Skinner to a 3rd party with cap space (Utah, Chicago), and that team flipping Skinner was massive retention to Carolina for Necas? Now that Guentzel doesn’t look to be resigning with them, maybe Carolina would be interested if Skinner if he cost only $5 min or so.
