My gas hob is 23 years old, and the company told me it would be too old for me to find spare parts etc. But, now I’m going to improvise and fix it myself . Subscribed 💪🏼

    I hope this helps anyone that has a problem with this. I have a Siemens gas hob and one of the starters didn't work. It appears like they're all in parallel and the others all worked in sparked. So I cleaned out the area but it didn't seem to work. So I took some Emery cloth and likely rub the top of the igniter. It works now. I thought I was going to have to order and change the igniter in that particular hob. But this worked okay

    I am having trouble closing the top on my XL44 so gas tubes fit into burner bases correctly. Do you have any suggestions that would help? Back of top is difficult to keep aligned properly. Top was pulled up to clean underneath and it would not close. After closer inspection I found some brackets that support the gas lines were bent. I straightened two brackets but I still had trouble closing top because top would not lift easily at the back. So I removed the rear burners by loosening the three tiny screws on each one. Then I was able to set top back down carefully aligning the front burners with the gas lines mounted on the top of oven but underneather the stove top. Once the top was back in place I put the rear burners back on checking with a flashlight to be sure they fit correctly over the gas lines on each side. Then I tightened up screws on each burner and replaced pans and grills. I did a test and all igniters and burners lit up.

    Great video. I have a 7 year old frigidaire gas stove and my front right burner clicks then comes on sometimes and other times there's no clicking then I start smelling gas and it doesn't light. The funny thing is that when it does this, I turn it off then turn on the burner behind it then I try again and it turns on immediately. Could this be a faulty igniter?

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Michael. It could well be an igniter, and the part doesn't cost much to replace. Before I replaced the igniter, I'd clean the metal tip on the igniter and the burner base really well with denatured alcohol. There's a small port in the burner base that gets plugged with grease and food particles. That's what caused one of my burners to light intermittently. Use the tip of a tooth pick to clear that port out. You can also use a piece of fine sandpaper to carefully and lightly clean the metal tip of the igniter.
      I hope this helps you.

    0:39 - Why does everyone's base come off easily like that? Mine appears to be sautered on or bolted.

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  2 роки тому +1

      Christopher, try this. Make sure the stove is unplugged and gas off. Get a dish towel moist (not too wet) and heat it in the microwave for about 30 seconds or so. Then, put the moist, heated towel over the base and leave it for a bit. Maybe the moisture and heat will soften some of the gunk and grease around the base to help you release the base. If that doesn't work, I'd use denatured alcohol and give the area around the base a good cleaning and try to pull it up again.

    • @ChristopherDillman
      @ChristopherDillman 2 роки тому

      @@frugaldiy1 I appreciate this quick reply! However I am now noticing two T15 torx screws holding that burner place down. The next trick is to loosen those screws without stripping them. They are stuck solid. Maybe the warm dish towel might help?

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  2 роки тому

      I'd use some silicone lubricant spray or penetrating oil to soak those screws and let them sit overnight. Then, try to loosen the screws tomorrow. You don't want to strip or break the heads off of those screws. It makes them difficult to remove. If the screws won't loosen, use a hammer to strike the head of the screwdriver while turning the screwdriver to the left (counterclockwise) to loosen the screws. The impact of the hammer gives the screw a "jolt" to help break the screw free to loosen. It's like using an impact screwdriver, if you don't have one.

    • @DanteM-l5d
      @DanteM-l5d 6 днів тому

      The clicking is the sound of the spark hitting the metal. If there's an issue with the wiring it means you need a new ground wire if your stove isn't a plug in. If it is a plug in then you need to just get an entirely new stove being as though the part to fix that cost as much as the stove

    My front burner doesn't click, would replacing the igniter work, or is that a spark module or wire issue? All other burner both click and ignite. Thanks

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  2 роки тому +1

      Bonnie, it could be any one of those issues. If it was me, I'd first remove one of the igniters from a burner that works and try it in the burner that's not working. It will help you isolate the problem.

    Thanks for the great video! One Question, where to buy the new spark igniter? Thanks a lot!

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  3 роки тому +1

      You're welcome, Tony. To buy the correct spark igniter, search the actual model number of your stove and the words "stove igniter," and look at the search results. Make sure the image of the igniter looks like yours. Both Amazon and eBay had my type of igniter for a comparable price. I hope this helps you. Happy DIYing!
      If you haven't tried cleaning the metal tip on the igniter you have now, I'd try that first before you purchase and replace it. Often times, the stove won't light because of grease and debris on the igniter tip and/or the port at the burner base.

    I accidentally spilled a full pitcher of water on my GE Stove today. Now, it's not lighting, even though I can see a spark. Have you done a video on other things to check if a burner isn't lighting (e.g., clogged gas port)?

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I do have a video on an igniter clicking, but not lighting--"How to Fix a Stove Top Burner That Clicks But Won’t Light." Likely, the igniter or the electrical wire to the igniter is wet from the water. Unplug the stove and lift the stove top and dry up as much water as you can. I'd let it dry out for several days and then try to light the burner again. I would not try to apply any electricity to a wire that is wet. Give it a few days to dry out.

      @@frugaldiy1 Thanks! Kind of embarrassing, but I realized my mistake. When I tried to light the burner after cleaning up the water, I forgot to replace the "cap" on that burner. It worked as soon as I replaced it. Whew!

    One burner that I turn on clicks but no spark.....but when I turn another the burner, the electrode sparks another burner. Ie.....I could be trying to start the front left burner but the front right burner is sparking

    • @frugaldiy1
      @frugaldiy1  3 роки тому

      I'm not sure what the issue is. I once had a Sterling gas stove top that required me to turn the front burner on to ignite a spark which would then ignite start the back burner once I turn the knob to the "on" position. Odd for sure, but that's the way the stove top worked.
