    got goosebumps hearing this.
    I always draw a connection between this song and Bonnie Barbrey Allen; both about loving below their station, both about heartbreak, and both beg their mother's to 'make their bed'. Trumpeter of Fyvie and Bonnie Barbrey Allen also have the same number of syllables!

    edit: I re-listened to Martin Simpson's version and was surprised that this arrangement didn't include the bit about Andrew being accused of 'bewitching' Agnes; it's the only "male witch" story i know from this place and time.

    Was Agnes Smith's family ever brought to justice? Andrew Lamb went on to marry two women and left issue. Beautiful singing, by the way!
