Her first training was in showing (which can be a nasty business too), before dressage and long before winding up with CH. She was mid-thirty when this happened, so no baby anymore that Carl supervised 24/7. She developed a distinctly different riding style, deviating from Carl in many things and was often described as the kind of person who wouldn't be told what to do by others. How could he have known what she does when she teaches her own classes or students, this even happened abroad. What she did was horrible, but the plain assumption that everyone around her is 100% the same is just as unfair. Carl has done so much for dressage - but Charlotte never really "copied" him in recent years. As they say, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. I also visited Carl during an open yard morning and came to watch him train and teach, but what struck me additionally was the amount of space and relaxedness and the huge number of animals he had rescued which are everywhere around his yard, especially birds and dogs. We all had partnerships or associations where we were wrong about someone and learned that behind our behind our backs, they were acting differently than in front of us, but I think you are doing him great injustice and would like to know how you would feel if you were held responsible for every action a student, kid, (ex)partner or family member of yours was guilty of, even if you had no part in the incident.
Does anyone here remotely have a clue what Dressage is in the equestrian world? Or do you all watch and drool over what you think is Dressage in equestrian form? NO. It is not "ballet with a horse". NO. It is not an "equestrian dance". Does anyone even remotely know what they are watching? I'll wait for the answer.
The first book on dressage was written by the ancient Greek General Pluvinel. It was to train the military horse and rider to have complete communication and mutual trust in battle. Their lives depended on it! That didn't stop them from showing off for the ladies in time of peace! In the middle ages , the aires above the ground, levade, coubette, and capriole were used by the cavalry to scatter the foot soldiers . Horses have always been by our side through the centuries to help us and bring us joy
Yes, balanced horses, who keep more of the weight they are carrying on their rear and are able to do various movements balanced and controlled stopping and starting these movements at the letters around the borders of the arena and in the center. In competition each horse does the same pattern and is scored on the correctness of their movements. (Movements like collected trot, extended trot, side-pass, canter pirouette, passage, piaffe, flying changes every other stride and every stride (tempi-changes) as well as extended canter, relaxed walk, extended walk, etc.- for Olympic level Grand Prix.) At least the horses are supposed to be balanced, with their rear end carrying more of the weight, which brings their head up and curves their neck more (it is not always achieved with rolkur). Doris has the history right. The first time I saw dressage was when the Lipizzaners came to town. Read more about it, took lessons, love it intensely. When done correctly, it is poetry in motion and brings tears to my eyes; when done incorrectly is a sad mess and can be horse abuse. Don't be a know-it-all; it makes you look like you have to be better than everyone else. Of course, there are a lot of people who don't know exactly what dressage is. It's nicer to be helpful with people who are uninformed, rather than meanspirited and nasty, as your post reads. One more thing I'd like to add is that a chewing horse is a horse who is concentrating on its rider and what they are asking of it. These movements need to be extra precise and the horse has to be 100% on its game listening to every nuanced move the rider makes. It doesn't mean it's in pain or upset. That has been one of the misconceptions on a lot of horse posts by people who don't understand the sport , the backseat drivers, so to speak. That frustrates me, too.
I don’t believe CD will ever shake off recent events, I don’t see how she possibly can. It has sent chills through the dressage community, private owners and professionals alike. Let’s look forward to greater awareness and a conscious effort to do the best we can for the horse, our beloved horses ❤
@@marsery I don’t know the answer to your question and hope CH response is factual and true. (I could not watch or listen to the cracking of the lunge whip which was striking the horse within moments of understanding what was happening). IMO it is a serious case of abuse administered without care for the welfare and wellbeing of that horse.
Now we all know horrific, abusive training and show practices. It's just hard to watch...remembering how most pro horses are whipped, beaten for hours in stalls, cruel spurring, bloody mouths, hyper-flexed heads, tied tongues, overly tight nose bands, shock gadgets, blue flapping tongues, and porcupine bars raised as horse attempts jumps during training. Sad and ugly business.

How is this different from using animals in a circus?
If a horse can not straighten its neck, this should not be rewarded!
