  • Prince Harry eat's like a prince right? Today we put his favorite dish and recipe to the test, it's called Chicken Pie or Birthday Chicken Pie. We doubt he cooks it and maybe a palace chef made it but it's his favorite. We wanted to test for ourselves if this is a special dish. Seems like a deconstructed pot pie but let's see the difference. I mean, how can it go wrong with chicken, gravy and potatoes? What really intrigued us is because Prince Harry is all over the news with his recent documentary and book. And we thought, what would a prince eat? This Chicken Pie recipe seemed easy enough but it's metrics so you'll have to convert over if you're in the US. Meghan Markle must love this recipe too, they do make a lot of roast chickens. By the way, we found that Hello Fresh in the UK at one point offered a Prince Harry Birthday Chicken Pie option to make at home. Much easier we say!

QUICK TIPS WE LEARNED AFTER TEST:
    1. You can use chicken stock instead of water and chicken stock powder.
    2. If you can't find creme fraiche, sour cream is a great alternative.
    3. We had too many potato slices left over so we layered it, so if you don't want to then just do one potato.
    4. We found the pie lacked gravy, there wasn't enough so it was drier than desirable. So if you're like Kat, double the gravy portion.
    5. The breadcrumbs toasted nicely but the potatoes were still white and colorless. Not sure the solution based on this recipe.
    6. Both potatoes and breadcrumbs were flavorless, being on top it wasn't integrated into the dish. Unlike shepards pie, they didn't seem part of the dish.

I might try this, its good to have the potato a different shape! I am veggie but I reckon you could make this with tofu (fry it) or tempeh. Use something like mushroom or onion stock, I can get those here in UK, I dont know if you can. Or even that old favourite, a can of mushroom soup! Id season the potatoes AND the panko, turn the potatoes in some seasoned butter or something. I reckon a shallow dish may work better for the browning. It certainly is not a pie but it looks good!
