Can you hear any noise when you're not speaking into the mic? A background hiss of any kind? Boosting the gain only becomes an issue when you get a background hiss; if your interface is good quality it shouldn't be an issue :)
Cant hear any backround noise so it should be fine then, thanks for the information man, was close to buying something like a fethead / cloudlifter cuz I thought it would make a big difference. Saved me 80 bucks😇🙏
Awesome video! I was waiting anxiously for this one! Question... how do you feel the PodMic handles plosives versus the Shure? It seems the Shure MV7 has a removable foam cover, and I don't think the PodMic does. I have never heard a plosive from you so maybe you aren't prone to them (not sure if I am), but I am aware of what they are. Also, how would you compare the value for someone looking to get a Shure MV7 USB versus a PodMic which uses the XLR interface that I think requires at least something akin to the Rodecaster Duo to even use? If my math is correct, you can get a Shure MV7 here in the US (USB) for around $250 but the combined PodMic and Rodecaster Duo would be around $600.
Yeah lots of great questions! I'll aim to answer them all in a MV7 vs PodMic video but yeah like @joeys-wooden-spoon pointed out, Rode also have a USB version which eliminates the need for an interface. But you can also get much more basic but still good interfaces for $100-$200. The Rodecaster does a lot more than a basic interface which is why it's more expensive. :)
Great video Nick. Out of interest, how far away are you sitting from your mic? From the front on view it looks further away compared to how I see most using the PodMic.
@@DecodingMedical It should work if ur using the (Rode Podmic usb), not the original Podmic. The original podmic is only xlr not usb. You will need some good interface for it.
@@DecodingMedical you can get the (podmic usb) if want to use through the usb thing. The normal podmic only works with an interface of some kind and an xlr cable. podmic usb is almost double the price of the podmic.
Hi Nick, I have the Scarlett 18i8 & two podmics but for some reason the audio is not registering. Any thoughts? Computer audio shows that it’s registering through the 18i8 but not the mics
Hmm that's very odd.. I don't suppose you have any other mics you could test with the Scarlett? It seems unlikely both Podmics would be faulty so I'm guessing it might be an issue with the Scarlett? What software are you routing it through?
The cheapest thing in your setup is the mic , i mean the stand of the mic cost 120$ and the the rode duo cost like 350-300$ so definitely you have money why don't you invest in better mic like procaster or the sm7b. Don't undertsand me wrong i really liked your video and i understand everything you said but i've this question

Solid review! I would love to see a comparison between the Podmic and the mv7!
Coming soon! :)
Check out the MV7 +. An upgraded model.
Is it a problem if I have to crank the gain on my scarlett all the way up just to hear the mic well?

@@bonkthedonke Awesome! 🤩
Awesome, bought 1 immediately after watching your video. Thanks mate!
Hope you enjoy it! :)
Just received two of these mics. Does the 3/8" stand adapter come out so i can use 5/8" stands or is it permanently fixed into "clip"? Thanks!

Rode recently released the podmic usb. So you wouldn’t need the rodecaster as well. The sound profile is comparable to the xlr only mice.
@@joeys-wooden-spoon Thanks for that!

I probably have mine 6-8 inches from me which helps avoid plosives; I boost the gain a little in post as well :)
I bought it but not working on my pc ??
Hmm, what interface are you using?

Usb rode cable and podmic

"Coffee" scale 😂
In this case it was a microphone scale 😂

Very low gain, turn it way up.
