Okay, yesss Justin was a jerk in season 1, yes he could have done so much more than walk away once Bryce locked the door and he could have told Jess. Okay in season 3 we know that he had been involved in s*xual assaults TWICE and maybe that freaked him out when it happened to Jess but still, he could have done so much more. Jessica forgave him though, and he did his time in juvenile detention, more than Bryce himself had. You can see that Justin regrets what he did so much and through season 3 and 4 you can see he can't forgive himself even though Jessica had. Yes, he should stop doing drugs but it's not easy, but he tries he really tried for so long to not relapse but in the end... SPOILER Justin died and it's so happy to see that Jessica and Justin were so strongly in love with each other despite everything that had happened in season 1. So in the end, Justin started as a jerk but ended up as such a strong and caring character that loved jessica more than life
