Last month I bought a new Case Canoe from SMKW in the deep canyon jigged Autumn Sunset. It came with the 1095 carbon steel blades which I really enjoy sharpening and mantaining with oil. These knives really deserve the care and attention that you demontrate in the video, they respond very well to maintenance. That trick you showed to polish the inner brass liners works great, nice tip!
Leather slips definitely cause tarnishing/corrosion. As for how to restore the knife, unless there is pitting, I think just hand polishing with Case Paste/Flitz/your favorite polishing compound is a better choice for most people.
I actually have that knife in hand as I was flipping through you tube videos 😂 I use a silver cleaning cloth on mine and keeps it shiny like new Awesome video bro
I use a dremel with soft buffing pads and diamond lapping paste to polish my knives. I also have various grits of polishing compound for softer materials of the handles like wood, plastic and bone so they don't get scratched or burned.
Great info about the soft/pliable sandpaper. I didn’t know you used the white before the green polishing compound… I only ever had green and was happy with the finish it left. That looks canoe pattern looks great after all your work.
Heck yeah, that's impressive. I've just used flitz polish and a rag before. That block you made with the different grits is awesome, cause I'm always a lil bit afraid to try it on my satin bolsters (like your 47). So thanks a bunch. I'm gonna give it a try
I'm commenting as i watch. That looks tough to do without hitting the covers. I'll post several comments through out to annoy you. 😂 dang fathers day beer
Hello and Thank You for having showed some very good polishing tips. I wasn't sure about the order of rubbing compound. That's why I get mixed results using the white, green, black, polishing compounds. I buy quite a few older slip joint knives and enjoy doing a thorough cleaning and polishing before displaying or storing them. And I'm always looking for new ideas Thanks for sharing them. Oh almost forgot have you tried this Nevr-Dull metal polish/cleaner by Eagle1.It is a 5.0z.can of wadding just pull out a little bit and rub rub rub lol it is great on brass, copper, stainless, nickel-silver and bone delrin, micarta anything i've tried it on comes out very good,
@@richterknives It a synthetic wax developed for the British museum the put a protective coating on everything (I mean everything) to prevent oxidation. I use it myself on ancient coins but did a video about in for my knife.

Those Autumn Sunset knives are amazing. I've been carrying the Sodbuster jr, love it!!
Oh man! Tarnish is where it’s at!!! I need a slip
😜

Agreed. Use the tools you have available. I’m sure most folks don’t have access to a bench grinder and buffer pad
Great job! Definitely going to try this. Thank you!
Thanks for watching

Great Demonstration!!! It's crazy how quick you can turn something around with just a lil bit of work.
Its fun stuff. Not hard at all. Its more will than skill 🤣 Thanks for the the comments bud. I enjoy reading and answering them

Im glad I could help. Thanks for watching, bud

You don’t necessarily need the white compound. It’s just easier getting out the scratches.
There's no standard for the color coding of polishing compounds. Green from each manufacturer is different.
@@sheltermonkey6065 Thanks for the information!
Good vid man. I had been planning to fix bolsters on an ebay knife I recently bought. Cool.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for watching! Im glad you got something out if it. Its super easy
Having my coffee and watching your video! I need to get a buffing wheel.
Same here, I need to get a buffing wheel for my bench grinder
Its a whole lot quicker than what I showed on video. The camera slowed me down and stage fright took hold 🤣 j/k but it sure is handy.
It’ll put hair on your chest. 💪 🤣
Nice job. I use a Sunshine polishing cloth by hand, on my knives. Your polishing wheel is much better. Nothing like shiny, sharp stuff.
Thanks for the tip 👍 appreciate ya watching

That’s awesome, where can I pick one of those sanding pads at? Very nice job. Thanks for the video.
Walmart in the automotive paint section or on Walmart.com….thanks for watching bud
Ok thank you!
👊
Very cool. What compound do u use on bone
A white compound. It cleans up easier than the green
Welcome
👊
Great video. Have you ever tried Renaissance Wax?
Thanks! I’ve never tried it. What does it do?
@@richterknives It a synthetic wax developed for the British museum the put a protective coating on everything (I mean everything) to prevent oxidation. I use it myself on ancient coins but did a video about in for my knife.
I recommend renaissance wax as well. It was recommended to me by an avid knife collector who collects $4-5k knives. Not $100 dollar knives like me lol
Can you use same materials for remove shallow scratches from blade?
Absolutely
Thank you sir. What grit sandpaper would you use on a blade like that to remove shallow scratches?
I'm telling osha! You can't be doing that buffing on the grinder without some big ass guard that makes it more dangerous to use. Lol😮
I can’t spell OSHA so we are fine….🤣
Buffing wheels are no joke. They've killed plenty of users.
Where do I get one of your slips?
DM my Instagram… I’m working on an Etsy page right now
Now you just need to go her some tiners and she'll be good to go
They all need the tiners! Right?
I wonder if you can eventually buff a knife into nothing?
I think you’d tire out first 🤣
@@richterknives😂😅 that's funny right there I don't care who you are lol
You got a grinder for 60 bucks? Dang bud where?
