  • Daihatsu Mini Truck, Changing the Struts. This is a 1990 Daihatsu Hijet Mini Truck. The suspension in the front was bouncy and would bottom out. We decided to install new front Struts and see if that fixed the issue.If this did not fix the issue ,we were going to get new springs. The struts seemed to fix the issue for us. I also noticed this Daihatsu mini truck had a lift kit on it as well. The only real issue I had in changing the Struts was that my spring compressor did not want to work on such a small spring. I had some stuff on hand so I quickly made a set of spring compressors. I do not suggest everyone make tools like this, as Your Safety could be at risk.The springs on the struts are very dangerous and could cause serious injury or even a life. If making a tool do it at your own risk. After making a tool the Daihatsu Hijet Mini Truck struts was fairly easy to change.

    That makes sense; maybe I can refine my previous rule of thumb to this: if the torque on a fixing is controlling the pressure on a bearing or seal or affects another tolerance, torque probably matters; otherwise it probably doesn't. I haven't developed that intuition, and I'm not always working on something I can get a service manual for, so your advice on this is very helpful, thanks!

    After years of doing it you kinda get to know when to pick up a torque wrench. Like the bolts holding the struts on can just be tightened .but like a axle nut needs torqued because it sets pre load on the bearing. A head gasket needs to be torqued because it takes a certain pressure on gasket to make the gasket work right. Just like a battery terminal bolt. If you over tighten it strips the threads out of the lead. so you know only snug.but no reason to torque them.

    Weird... I never know when I do or don't need to know torque specs, but figured suspension bolts would be a critical failure area where it'd matter. My new theory is that it only matters when the load is across the threads / along the bolt... If load is at right angles across the bolt, just get it tight; if load is in the same direction as thread tension, get the torque specs... Does that sound like a good assumption?

    I have a 1998 HiJet.It is so rough riding ! W was looking at it.and seen where the Struts dont go in but maybe 1/2 inch,even with me jumping on one side..Im thinking strut shocks are stuck ! that might be why it is so rough riding..any thought to that.? thanks

    Got my 2" lift and new tires on, adjusted camber, etc and now the poor thing hops down the road like a Bunny Wabbit. Not like just when I hit a bump, it's consistently hopping starting at around 25 kph. New 300# springs on the way but it doesn't seam it will help as I didn't feel the hop on the lift, only once I put on the tires. Any ideas?

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  2 роки тому +1

      wonder if it is a tire , did you balance them . Did weight fall off . if hard time balancing , in our lifted trucks with big tires we used Equal in them to balance . also make sure no play in steering parts , is there a steering stabilizer

      I think i got them from G&R Imports. I found no cross over for any part numbers that actually worked. Yours is a different model and it may be worth trying to cross numbers. . If it bottoms out a lot think about heavier springs also .
