- See how easy it is to solder the new motor shield 7784 from DCC-EX. You can now control both DCC & DC locomotives with this 5 Amp shield with the DCC-EX command Station
More videos to come on this new product as I experiment with this and the updated code.
Visit the DCC-EX web sit for more information on this and how to get started with the inexpensive DCC system that now is capable of handling 5 amps without an additional booster.

I bought a soldering station a few years ago...made huge difference being able to control temp
Best thing I ever bought
I'd definitely have to order with the headers already attached. My soldering skills are rudimentary at best.
My soldering skills were nothing to talk about until I practiced and then got a digital soldering station which keeps a constant temperature. Best investment I've made!
Looking forward to getting one of these new motor boards. Nice video Tom. Your alway ahead of the curve. Thanks need to dig up the latest sketch. 4.16. Hppy railroading 😅
Thanks Edward. I just happened to find the latest one when I was editing this video. Glad I checked, there was no announcement.
An interesting system
Works well, outperforms the commercially available systems, and very affordable
Just got my new 7784 shield (already assembled). Was in Customs jail for two weeks. Hope for a video that both describes all the features of the 7784, and maybe do that in an updated build video, as if someone has never assembled one before... but with this new motor driver.
Trying to finish up a structure kit. As soon as I'm finished with that, I'll be able to play around with the code. The unreleased code is where all the Track Manager features are which will be out in ver 5.0
Where did you get it?
I have two DCC-EX setups. One uses Arduino Motor Shield REV3 while the second one uses the Markerfabs and all use the ESP8266 WiFi shield and 20 x4 display. They work fine accept the display for Markerfabs doesn’t work, it lights up but I get no message. Both displays work’s fine when hooked to the Arduino Motor Shield REV3.
Check the DCC-EX website for comparable motor shields. Makerfab mat not be on the list
@@TomsTrainsandThings Sorry, I should have said EX-MotorShield8874 RevA not Markerfab.
The real question is how do I hookup the EX-MotorShield8874 RevA and the LCD 20 x4 display? Both displays work’s fine when hooked to the Arduino Motor Shield REV3.
@@dantecant Did you change the code to reflect you are using the 8874 and not the standard motor shield?
@@TomsTrainsandThings I thought I did.
I got it but I don't how! Could you come with a list saying what to do. For example, when to unplug and re plug to the computer, when to provide power, when to provide to the track, etc. I know it's a pain!
Nice tutorial.
Thanks Jim. Convinced to convert to DCC-EX yet? lol
Hello !
Thank you for your fascinating videos. I appreciate your vision of model railroading. I have a question: Is it possible to record a DCC sequence? For example, we start a recording then we move the train forward a distance, we operate a switch, we move backwards and we stop. Then we stop recording. Is it possible to reproduce this sequence automatically?
Adrien
Check the EX-Rail section of DCC-EX, they have an explanation for this
Always good to end on a cliff hanger!
Looking forward to the next episode with the running.
Any news on the version 5?
Nothing on V5 yet, I check in everyday, but no talk about it. It was scheduled for late May but they haven't updated that post. Patiently waiting!
@@TomsTrainsandThings Ok, thanks.
Have a great day.
Looks good, soldering not my skill. If I tried that all pins would be one LOL, I know its more $ to buy a premade one but it is worth it to me. Out of curiosity what flux and applicator bottle are you using? looks a bit more pinpoint than a brush or swab :) I have trouble soldering little micro switches with the paste flux it works ok on larger stuff but not the teennie tiny stuff THANKS
You can find everything I use in my videos on my Amazon page, that's where I bought the rosin flux and the squeeze bottles with the needle applicator.

I have the mega and the Motor Shield 7784 and they work fine. How do I get the WebThrottle working without going to the (Run Ex-WebThrottle Now) page each time?
Might want to contact DCC-EX crew on their Discord
Not so sure "how easy" that much soldering on pc board will be. By the way, have you heard if the new Uno R4 to be released at the end of the month, with it's upgraded specifications and WiFi, may be an option to the Mega 2560?
Not hard at all, just repetitious. R4 is faster with more memory but the same I/Os as R3. Mega still beats it for the additional pins
