Just learned today about Jeff being fired from GB about a year ago, and couldn't help but come back here. I was wondering if anyone would've said anything, since I remembered that quote in particular, and this was the top comment for me. First Vinny, Brad, and Alex, and then even Jeff left. Stings, I won't lie.
It's not that weird for the time. I worked for a gaming website once and had to change my review score for a game because we weren't allowed to deviate from the Metacritic score by more than 10 points.
Nowadays we seem to get more feedback from publishers or devs. I think we've only had one fan backlash for Killzone 2 or 3 because we threw it a 7. We've never revoked a score, though.
You know what? I'd never bothered to check, but it seems like it's closed down now. I think smaller sites like that were more likely to not want to "rock the boat." Which I can understand, but at the same time, yeah. Go big or go home.
Always makes me smile when Ryan is on the screen. That man was an absolute monster, but the coolest and most badass monster ever to roll through the games industry. RIP Ryan, miss you duder
Gamespot back than is what got me into gaming in a real hard way so they'll always have a place in my heart. On the Spot etc. Funny hearing them go insane for the PS3 given what would eventually happen. Reminded me how much I miss Ryan, Rest in Peace you legend.
When Jeff says at the end, he doesn't know if treating their staff as disposable burned Gamespot; I can't say for certain either but I know that I never really kept on with any of those sites (IGN, Gamespot, god knows how many others) into this most recent era. But I know that a lot of people like Giant Bomb, and I've enjoyed my time watching and as a Premium member since I found out about these guys. The personality, the people, are what make it worthwhile on top of the content. Hell the fact that I was excited to see these people look back on their old selves feels like a kind of proof. Like I said, I can't say for sure if Gamespot got burned for what it turned into, but looking back on it, I'd put my money on that being the case. Love you guys, and here's to Giant Bomb!

Interesting to hear them talk about the "downfall" of Gamespot. I remember being bummed out watching everybody leave one by one until finally they fired Jeff and I completely lost interest. I really enjoyed their video content from 04-06.
I've heard that credits song before. So if it wasn't released it was at least used somewhere... Maybe I saw this documentary back in the day somehow x)
It seems like Gamespot still has that problem of keeping people and letting them do the things they want to do. Like NoClip for example,should have been a regular Gamespot video feature but they just let him go.
