My grandfather Jimmy Payne was a member of the Liverpool squad for this game. He was playing in the number 7 shirt on the right wing. Unfortunately passed away last week. A true legend. RIP grandpa xxx
Back when footballers were paid modestly, and played for their passion of the game, and their loyalty to the club. When football was a true working man's game, and English football had it's own identity. What a privilege it must have been to witness. But alas, I was born far too late, my grandfather was only thirteen when this FA Cup final was played.
@simonvaddan Just as a matter of historical interest, Arsenal wore their old-gold cupfinal shirts for the game against Pompey on 3rd May 1950.Prior to kick off, Arsenal had their official team photo taken with the cup in front of them.God, where have the last 60 years gone?
He sure did - and due to his position during the war he had to, from time to time, check up on the Cup itself. There's a photo knocking around somewhere in my loft of it on the mantlepiece in his front room when he had it for a weekend.
If they were told that in 60 years time Arsenal would be shite I don't think they'd have believed. Fast forward 2021 Arsenal fans have to live in severe pains💔
Not quite correct as it was common then for people to hitch to games and cars would get filled up quickly. Indeed my Grandfather who was a Pompey fan travelled all round the country watching them in the '30s by hitch-hiking. I'll leave the issue of ticket distribution for another day though!

No over paid prima donnas here!
Arsenal played in Gold Jerseys for this match.
Really?
@simonvaddan Dennis Comptons last game for Arsenal was on 2nd May 1950 against Portsmouth at Highbury, Arsenal won 2-0.I remember being there.
Are you alive
The best winning moments of my lifelong and loyal supporting team Arsenal for winning the 1950's FA Cup final!!!:-D
Wow
Sweet football from the gunners at 2.07 - 2.25
Are you alive
@converse91970 Yes he did :) after Don Welsh... xx
At least the footballers were articulate in those days.Joe Mercer the gentleman as usual praising Liverpool effort.
My favourite club winning in my favourite cup tournament .
@boosra Yes, you are right! Wenger football before Wenger......nothing boring about it at all!
I would say nearly all working class people did not have cars around this time, no matter what part of the country you came from.
"Cox working like a Trojan"... heh
@NattyPatty13 Nice one.....btw, did your Uncle Phil go on to manage Liverpool, just prior to Bill Shankley?
Hey rb. The king was far greater man then you give him credit for. If you turned out a tenth of the man he was you should count yourself lucky.
Reg Lewis played for Margate in the 1930's
How old were these men? Were they playing in their 40s? I would really love to know.
No hooligans in those days....
How cool old days
.....and score
@simonvaddan . 3rd May is correct, my typo error sorry.
COYG!!
@NattyPatty13 Nice one NattyPatty, thanks for the reply. Best of luck from an Arsenal fan! x
Are you alive
Reg Lewis would have certainly been arsenal all time goalscorer if it wasn't for the war
Is that Cary Grant doing the commentary?
Nothing wrong with received pronunciation. A pity so few use it.
nice

Sad fact: these players are all dead now
Even supporters
@@youdube1203 not all of them. 1950 is only 72 years ago so anyone in the ground under 20 has a decent chance of being alive.
