honestlyyyy. this album rocks
Too many artists these days try to build up an image to stand out from the crowd, but to most of us it just ends up like a really bad and annoying attempt at being unique. Sasami has a refreshing and authentic "dorkyness" to her, and you see that she don't give a rat's ass what others think of her. She's just living her life with no compromise, I love it.
This is such a soul crushingly good album

So happy I finally found this. Heard it on local college radio and didn't know the name of the song and it's been driving me crazy ever since.
Nobody questions you when you are carrying a french horn! Your sound is stellar. Love this song....Also did not know SASAMI played synths in Cherry Glazerr until very recently. Sasami= earworm queen.

maybe this is me projecting but this mv paired with the song to me seems like it’s about choosing to pursue an arts career or one that just doesn’t necessarily ensure success. especially those times when it almost feels like it was a mistake since you’re getting no profit. her going to the talent show was like her remembering why she chose the path, then she leaves and has to return to her struggle. that down period is just “not the time”. The lyrics also seem like something that someone would say when pursuing a career that they don’t want but that would be more dependable over a career like that of the artist
As someone who went and got a degree with a focus on instrumental music (music education initially, but it turns out I’m a terrible and terrified teacher), it really does start to feel like the world doesn’t have a whole lot of space for us. If you’re not an educator, then you either have to be REALLY dead set on getting fantastic at your instrument, or you need to find a different career.
I’ve listened to this song so many times, and I always thought it was just about loving another person, but only just now after watching the full video for the umpteenth time, that same realization you had about the meaning of the lyrics suddenly came to me, too. It’s sad to see a deeply storied, studied, and intrinsically rewarding medium slowly fizzle out of public favor and/or interest, but that’s really the main meaning behind this song to me now. It feels kind of…tragic.

It was posted over three years back, whereas "Racist, Sexist Boy" (the Linda Lindas breakout) appeared less than a year ago.
No puzzle as to how they wound up on this - the De La Garza sisters' mom was the casting director, so when the video concept needed a very young, all-girl garage band.....
