It is darker your right. You can tell even in video. I like it better too. It kinda pops with that shade darker. Good job gm 👍
i have a Long Beach Red corvette ZO6 in CSR Rascing 2. The van in the background saw you and stopped. He didn't want to mess up the shot. Great video too!
You need to check the paint depth. Maybe the new paint booth and sprayers now put down thicker coats.
I agree with you on the colors of the two Vette's. the Grand Sport is darker. They both look good. I like the clear tail lights in your car. Does look richer & looks like a Z06 from the back.
The 2018 is darker. I like it.
I think they look the same. The stingray has a bit more metallic. But you should order a Sebring orange Z06 3LZ Z07 for the show room floor you will sell it instantly
Both looks great. I have a '17 Z51 in the same color.
Did you compare the paint that has never seen the sun - door jams, under hood, trunk and the sort? Maybe there was some sun fading on yours that the new one hasn't seen yet???? Just a thought and I was waiting to see you open the doors and hood and compare them...
The newer car appears to have more coats which gives the color more depth and makes it appear to be darker, this is quite common with certain colors. l would say it is the same formula as previously, simply appears different due to the number of coats, also using a deeper color base primer will change the outcome of most colors, especially metallics.
Looks just a couple shades darker but both look great!
GM has definitely made a mistake. What happens when one or the other cars is damaged? Color mismatch will plague that color and potentially others. Someone should’ve caught that and changed the code. Not bueno!
Very slight color change I think It could be a factor of fade between these two cars. With sunlight, washing, and time paint will take an unnoticeable beating and actually lighten up through the years. A great way to tell remove the license plate from a older car there should be a darker tone of paint under there.
Just my opinion. No wrong or right here. Just a thought will give my thoughts
Nice color on a vette! I looked at a couple of them that color waiting for delivery at the museum, the weekend after they closed the plant. Love those darker reds since they really make a car look great. Ever notice that they very often use red cars in the commercials?
Holy shit. I thought the same thing that you did when your customer said it when you said it looked different, but it actually is a little bit darker. guess GM didn't just buy newer equipment for their paint booth at the corvette plant, they actually bought better equipment too! and, like you, i actually like the look of the 2018 version of L.B. Red better.
A change in air pressure with any metallic or pearl color can change this when being applied, Get it right Chevy.
Go to any body shop with the paint code for that color. They will have multiple color chips for any paint code. Many factors will change the shade, metallic flop or pearl affect on any paint. Some of those factors could be painted at different times of the year or in different areas of the world ,humidity and temperature could make a difference. Like said below paint manufacturers could have been changed or a pigment for one color could have been changed year to year by the same paint manufacturer. Car manufacturers are not paint manufacturers, they source their paint from a paint supplier PPG, dupont, sherwin williams, ect..
Tony Backs HEY Tony, you sound like you know your stuff about the paint. I'm thinking about buying one in yellow. What do you think about that color??
Interesting info -while car shopping in Dallas last fall, I saw the dealer spec sheet paperwork describing the paint on an early 2016 model as Addiction red which had the same code number as Long Beach red....and incidentally when I had the dealer remove my 2017 Z51 A8 rear spoiler and replace it with a carbon fiber after market spoiler, there was a product sticker on the inside surface which said Addiction red. So I guess that is an old name for the “ new” color.
They should use the Pantone matching system. It never changes.
the new one is darker for sure. with it being the same paint code thats what makes it hard when doing a paint repair
I like that Long Beach Red Corvette. I may one day own a Corvette, but I do like my Camaro.
The new car is definitely a darker color. Surprising that there is such a noticeable difference.
Both look great... Actually the 2018 looks more like the 50th-anniversary red to my eye!!
Oh yeah! The 2018 is definitely darker. Not that it’s a bad thing
It does have a darker look to it! Looks more rich in my opinion.
Yes it looks like the new car has kinda a purplish tint to it. But I like them both.
Another color is the ceramic matrix. Every time I see the color in person it seems to be a different color. And the color palette at my local dealer is NO WHERE NEAR what the actual color looks like. And in photos and vids it looks white?? So yeah, definitely see the color in person before you buy if possible.
hrm my girlfriend recently picked up a '17 Cruze Premier the same colour as yours...sweet little car...and I'm not really a car guy (truck guy FTW!). This thing is loaded to the nuts and really is an impressive little driver.
Looks like a cross between Cherry & Maroon = just wicked......
Someone may have already said this, but couldn't you have swapped the tops to compare colors? Or at least removed one and set it gently on the hood of the other (with a protection of course)?
Yes a little darker but dark red is dark red. It’s definitely not Torch Red! Now what’s the difference between Long Beech, Garnet and Cajun Red Tintcoats?
Is the paint code the same? Could be that GM switched suppliers for this color, many manufacturers do this and there are definitely nuances to shade/tone.
The mirrored sunglasses are a little annoying with the reflection....
I have seen GM paint codes have 18 different variances it is not easy picking the right one when it's been in a wreck need a lot of room to blend the color
I don't know mike maybe a small difference but to do a quick glance they are the same
Hey this is Jason from Cecil County Maryland I met you at the call out cool guy I like your your content I'm a Chevy guy myself I think the colors are different and I like the newer color better man the darker is definitely better I think for the rate so that's my opinion and have a good day
The new Long Beach red has a more ruby tint to the top coat or that’s what it looked like to me when I saw the color but that was while it was still in the plant didn’t get a good look at a finished one up close and personal
GS is a bit darker and I like it.
The new 18 is much darker! He was correct!
Idk, applied heavier than the pervious. Maybe someone mixed it wrong and sold it..
Definitely a different shade. The 2018 Vette is darker like everyone is saying. I also like the darker color better.
Definitely darker
The color is different I noticed it when the 18 model year came out!
This issue is due to the 3 step paint job. Normal cars these days only have 2 steps, base coat and clear coat. The 3 special tint coat colors that are offered on the Corvette have a base coat, tint coat, and then clear coat. It appears that the tint coat was applied better on the newer 2018 car and it shows that it is a little darker. In the sun this car is going to flip colors more vibrantly. The down side to a 3 step paint job is if the car is every involved in an accident. Matching the color with the proper amount of tint coat is just about impossible. The new paint shop car is stunning.
Spooler You sound like you know your stuff about the paint. I'm thinking about buying one with the yellow. What do you think?
If that is what you like, get it. I am just not crazy about yellow. The Sebring Orange looks awesome.
Your car for it being a 2016 it's in pretty great shape you obviously wax your car so I say there is possibly a microscopic bit of paint fade cause I definitely see a minor shade darker in the 2018
So Chevy Dude, how do you think the C7 ZO6 compares to the C8, both being automatics?
Black Rose
YUPP!!! Darker!!!
Just a lil darker looks better tho
Both colors are beautiful, but when you are laying down that kind of money you expect to get what you asked for.
Yeah it’s definitely darker than yours. I wonder if they started using a different process or primer when they built the new painting facilities?
How to afford this car?
#ChevyDude yeah its darker. could you wash and clay bar your ride then compare again? I heard clay bar brings out the color, making it deeper in color. anyways i like the darker color
The 2018 is darker in some light and why did you go with the stingray and Not A Z06
It does look deeper....darker.
Definitely a different color.
The same paint code regardless of color will have multiple variances , paint will not match 100% on any two cars , nothing gm did wrong it’s just the nature of painting , that’s why bodyshops blend on adjacent panels after an accident because paint will not match and by blending you are fooling yours eyes to think it is
Any chance you might have a 2017 crew 2500 2wd still on your lot? Or locate 1?
breadman 2017 why woulnt you want 4wd
kasey birdwell. Just no need for it where i am towing/driving. Less maintenance costs.
Chevy Dude insurance replacement. Will check it out thanks for the help. If it works. Ill let you know. Thanks
U should take the vette to the youtube call out in April
Do you have any grand sport in stock with the new color I prefer it ?
Chevydude definitely the newer red has more Deeper red tones more like a Black Cherry and this is coming from someone who is colour blind
Different paint manufacturer GM use.
It happens alot.
they are and they are not, one is aged color of the other. but as well you must understand that your camera is lying to you. as the color gets fixed to minimize the volume of the file. in other words its not a real raw image. but I will say it is the same color just your car is sun and wax effects.. you need to bring that vette to troy and let him take the dirt from your vette off and then do a compared match.
Color on video isn’t always the same.
Let Andy clean your car
The 2018 looks much darker
four tail pipes LOL.
Sun get at it?
It's always hard to tell. I xpeled my z07 with the fiber downforce package because I have had TOO MANY cars that have taken nose hits from tiny meteors. Talk about something that messes with your chi...when you walk around your car, you just ALWAYS have to look at the meteor disaster zone in the front of your car, don't you?
Oh, getting just the carbon fiber brakes/nicer calipers makes the upgrade worth it, doesn't it?
Anyways, PAINT. I know they "say" that sealing the paint in won't allow it to degrade slightly to a different color, I have to wonder if it's true. Different pigments of color/chemical makeup of the pigments are more susceptible to a bit of a leech even if it's sealed.
Now, I go with your and other opinions that the paint colors have changed HOWEVER, what is a Laguna blue? What's a Volcano Orange? What's s urine-after-eating-asparagus- yellow? They're not REAL colors when you truly quantify them so technically they can change. The ONLY way that paint can be truly matched is with a R(Red) G(Green) B(Blue)...RGB...paint description along with the name if you want it to be so. So we have a Long Beach Red Corvette (fictional numbers that might be)(R:285(milliliter), B(118), G(146) So call it Long Beach Red (285, 118, 146) that way unless you change the provider of your paint, change the way you apply paint or the paint shop physically screws up, the paint will be matched every last time. It's like the paint machine at Home Depot. Every can has a RGB on top of it. The machine physically slips the right amount of each color into the can without any human work other than typing in the RGB. Using this, i've matched paint half way through a wall that was half painted three years previous just by having that RGB.
So that's the fix on this...call it Long Beach Red BUT provide an the amount of Red Green and Blue that were added to the color scheme to make it a Long Beach Red. If there's other chemicals added to make it sparkle or add depth, add that too to the description on the vehicle. Long Beach Red (285, 118, 146) (2 ounces of pure gold crushed into flakes, 3m color guard clear coat...etc etc etc). That's the right and ONLY way you're going to avoid this sort of thing. It's clear that NOT doing this is a big deal because I can assure you that the people SEEING Volcano Orange and the people WANTING Volcano Orange is ALOT. Those people are NOT going to want Sorta Volcano Orange because they're going to put their car beside someone who does have Volcano Orange and get (green with envy) (red with anger) (black with how they feel about dealing with your dealership because chev didn't make their car, their dealership did(at least in their minds)).
To me, this is going to get worse because the naming of a color is probably going to downstream to the lower level cars and trucks(Here's your brand new Frozen Mercury Silver $15k pickup, sir because giving the paint a name makes the vehicle more special to you doesn't it?). This all means the problem gets worse unless they put a real world physical number/additions on the mix of what makes a Long Beach Red or a Chernobyl Glow Because Your Car Got Too Close To Reactor Four Yellow.
Come on Mike! Don't try to compete with STREETSPEED717! I like your Vette just the way it is! And if you remember I'm not a fan of red! Spend your money on your wife and daughter! It's a better investment!
Both are sweet paint jobs . I see you have the DFR sticker on the front of the Camero... don’t bring the Vett to him .
Definitely darker
