    In 3 different times of taking the GED test I've never seen a question like this. Here's why GED is so hard.. my mind jumped to algebra and breaking the question down.. man this is too much

    The ac-method is quite nice here. ac=-12 so we are looking for b=-1 or -1x which can be found with -4x PLUS +3x and -4.3 = -12
    6x² + 3x - 4x - 2 = 0 -> 3x(2x+1) - 2(2x+1) = 0 -> (3x-2) . (2x+1) = 0 so x1 = 2/3 and x2 = -1/2.
    To determine IF you can factor this equation the discriminator D should be positive... D = b² - 4ac = (-1)² - 4.6.-2 = 1 + 48 = 49
    Discriminator D > 0 so there are 2 values for y = f(x) = 0 and we CAN factor this equation.
    BUT
    once you established D = +49 the abc-formula is much easier:
    D = 49
    delta = SQR(D) / 2a = SQR(49) / (2.6) = 7/12
    xtop = -b / 2a = -(-1) / 2.6 = 1/12
    x1,2 = xtop PLUS/MINUS delta
    x1 = 1/12 MINUS 7/12 = - 6/12 = - 1/2
    x2 = 1/12 PLUS 7/12 = 8/12 = 2/3

      @@meno1ms Math can be learned. It's just the language of numbers. The key is to figure out how you learn it. When I was in school and was taught under the old model of algorithmic memorization, I very much struggled. It wouldn't be until many years later that I would figure out why. I don't do math by the of memorization steps. I'm a visual and conceptual math learner that does math, based on logic.
      Case and point, I would need to be introduced to and understand the Distributive Property (over addition) before being introduced to the standard algorithm for multiplication. You see, the Distributive Property is what multiplication actually is, and the standard is just a shortcut (to save time and paper). All of the standards are shortcuts, actually.
