  • When Marshall meets Diezel: The Big Max!! This and the Einstein are hands down my favorite two Diezels because they combine the best characteristics of vintage Marshalls with the punch, power, and gain of Diezels.

    Diezel amps are just great. They’re incredibly versatile and have a unique sound. And great playing!

    This is the best demo on UA-cam of this amp. I got mine a couple of months ago.

    Thank you for the video. 🌞I've had this Amp for 9 months and it is really great in clean and in overdrive. Simplicity is such a nice thing and it has its own character, which might be the most important factor
    I play Worship in a church but also a lot of Metallica and Tool--thanks to the intense Headroom and downright absurd Metal tone it's the perfect choice for me ❤
    (Always on the low input, driven with a Vemuran Jan Ray, an Diezel VH4 pedal and of course the R1 from walrus, and an Echo station by UA.)

      I have the same guitar, and I have Andersons in mine (Billy nerd here as well). Mike Patton wound up with one that Dean Menta was using on Faith No More's King For A Day tour back in '95.

    I haven't heard of this amp before, but holy hell does it sound good. I think I saw a Naked in one of your other videos and I see the Naylor. I know the Naked has some heritage with the Naylor, so I can't wait for those amps.

      I've been considering doing a Naylor SD vs. Naked comparison. They're very different amps!

    Mike, you seem like a genuine solid guy. Appreciate your channel, I like the way you explain things. If you’re ever in So Cal, give me a text. I already know all the heads would have a good time with you as a real friend. We tend to gravitate to people not trying to be cool but just being themselves “we don’t care about anything as long as you’re being you” and I can tell you would fit in perfectly.

    You don't mention having a Plumes in your signal chain until about 10:15 into the video. Did you have the pedal on during any of the first ten minutes of playing?

    How is she at bedroom volume? I’ve had several Diezels and the masters are always great at low volume, is the B Max in the same camp?

      @@eldoradoguitars6456 funny thing is how diezels says big max is just the stripped down diezel tone, but I also owned vhx/vh4/vh2/herbert mk1 and all of those just sounded way less organic and felt much different than big max, so it’s nice to see that I am not hearing things :) maybe it is like that because the circuit is very simple ? IDK, but it is very different amp and I aggree.. by far the best amp from their lineup.

    • @eldoradoguitars6456
      @eldoradoguitars6456  Рік тому +2

      @@obestertomas There's definitely something to be said for simplicity in circuits. I think that's why a lot of guys prefer single channel amps. Less bells and whistles, more focus on tone.
      Now, that's not to say you can't make excellent yet complicated amps. Mesa/Boogie and Bogner both do this very well. But even Mesa/Boogie simplified the circuit path on their new Mark VII and even used two less preamp tubes. So definitely something there.

    It’s almost been a year. Do you still have this amp? Do you still love it? I’m seriously considering picking up one of these or a Wizard Modern Classic. Looking for a hot JCM800 type amp and this video has me leaning towards Diezel.

    • @eldoradoguitars6456
      @eldoradoguitars6456  6 місяців тому +1

      I do not, but I move amps very frequently. I'm currently doing a VH4 shootout video of three VH4's from different years so I had to clear up some space to do that. I am looking to buy another Big Max eventually, though. It's a killer amp. I really like it.

      @@eldoradoguitars6456cool. I’ve been listening to a lot of high gain amp demos and they just don’t sound as good to me as the less compressed punch of a n old-school Marshall. This amp seems to cover that brute force power while still retaining dynamics of the guitar, but also have more gain on tap and low end than say a 2203/4. A lot of the modern takes on the 800 to me seem to lean into the overdriven, smooth distorted 80s rock sound, but this sounds more like an angrier Marshall than a boosted Marshall. Would you agree? If so I’m sold and this is my next amp.

    • @eldoradoguitars6456
      @eldoradoguitars6456  6 місяців тому

      @@adrianjones1735 Yes, I would agree with your assessment. The Big Max does not get as "80s Greasy" as some of the other 800-style amps that are out there. It's a bit more open and growly than say a Friedman BE. Definitely far more low end and gain on tap than a stock 2204.

    Does the amp clean up well with the guitar volume ? I assume it does, but curious with amp gain on 10…..if it cleaned up…..or is it like 6 and anything passed that, you’re stuck with dirt always….also, it does have a loop, right ?

    • @eldoradoguitars6456
      @eldoradoguitars6456  Рік тому +1

      Yes, it has an effects loop.
      The clean up is very good when you roll back the volume. The overall level doesn't drop much at all; just the gain. Obviously the cleanup will be worse the more you turn the gain up. I can't imagine you leaving the gain on 10 all the time. It's a ton of gain and gets a little woofy past 3:00.
