Excellent video 👍🏻👍🏻 Hopefully, in 5 years, when it's time to replace that one, their new model will be the same size and not smaller. Otherwise, the larger hole you cut will be a problem.
Good informative video. The replacement cycle needs to be better understood so folks don't just say it's broke, disable it and leave it unreplaced. I say this because that is what I did in my boat. I finally got wise and replaced it. Thanks - Good job!! Take care.
Nice video, but next time, just cut the red and black wires as close to the old detector and use that to hook up the new detector. If you do it your way every time you replace a detector, you won't have enough wire to work with.
Looks good to me. Yes I love my Dermel tool as well. Helps a ton. LOL you had to use directions. Minus 1 man point. I like that flush mount much better than the one that sticks out. Nice testing idea as well there at the end. Leave wife behind in an emergency. Got it and will do. Great safety video y'all. Hope y'all are doing well and enjoying being back in FL.
Larry loves his Dremel. He would save Scrappy before me 😉 He loves pulling out torches and the like. He keeps leaving propane running on stove. One of us isn’t going to make it. Things are what they are. Lots of dr appointments while in Florida 🤗
Great video! I like the use of the drimmel tool. I was thinking about getting a multi-tool, but have never used one. The drimmel is more familiar so I might go that route. Thanks Doc. I agree with you…You are the Man!👍🏼😎
Hello Alice and Larry, Here's hoping y'all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and continued good health in the new year! Keep the good videos coming!
Great video Larry and Alice! Larry I was confident that you could put this new Safe T Alert together. You are a great handy man. Great job! I’m glad it worked. I’m going to hire you as my handy man! Lol! Hope you are feeling well. Alice you says you behind in videos too! Take it slow if you need too! I hope Larry is doing better. I pray for you both everyday! I am going to watch more videos today so I’ll see you later. Love you! 🤗❤
That happened to me and my family. Our camper was just sitting outside our house and we heard that pattern on the CO alarm so we replaced it. FYI, these things actually do save you from CO. I was taking a shower on my camping trailer, and five minutes in, it started going off.
Mine is blinking red and green. I believe it's eol. I have the same one you just put in but it's the mini version. Ended up ordering the same one so i don't have to make a hole. I believe the one you installed is 35-742, mine is the 25-742. Hopefully they are the same and it's just the size difference.
Turning the power off serves 2 purposes. First is for personal safety and I (Dave) agree that 12V is not a significant personal safety risk. Second is for equipment safety and that is the concern for 12V systems - 12V (from big batteries) shorted direct to ground could blow a fuse or trip a breaker. However, if no fuse or breaker are in the circuit, the short could draw enough current to cause damage to cables or batteries.
Mines is solid red and beeping. My battery to my rig is completely dead and the camp ground outlet is flashing 122 and 60. First time RV on the 2nd day and I’m already annoyed 😑
Just finished this exact repair on my GD Reflection 2018. Our alarm woke us up at 1 am 😢. My question is, what is the size crimp end caps you used? The ones I ordered were 14 and too small for those 3 wires. Used standard screw caps but ordered Wago connectors to redo this before we start traveling.
Im not a fan of wago connectors for RVs as they can vibrate and loosen the connection compared to a crimp connector, I used a 10-14g connector, that i got from lowes, they come in a 25 pack. These are cheaper than wago connectors and more permanent in my opinion, but you do need the appropriate crimper to make sure it crimps properly. Larry
So you said you can't silence the end of life annoying a$$ beeping 30 days after hitting the TEST button & so after that you must replace or the beeping will continue until you replace/disconnect/shoot the $#*%! thing..is that about right?
Maybe I missed it, but why not just cut the red and black wire off the old detector and connect those to the new detector? Little extra wire but no need for the multimeter part.
I just figured since i had both wires cut i would check the voltage, and i also did it to show that these are safe wires to touch because they are 12 volts, a lot of people doing this replacement dont have a lot of electrical experience. But you are right, just cut the wires and crimp on the new one. Larry
What a stupid alarm lol.. I have one it goes off just from spraying arasol sprays. I just took it off and electric taped it up. Just using a plug in one put on the ground.
Thx for the video mine just went off at 2:47 a.m.
Ugh. Of course it picked a perfect time e like that. Such a scary sound
Glad we could help
Alice
I haven't held on to a camper long enough to have to complete this task. I do like the rig I have now so you never know. Nice job.
We’ve had this one since 2019 and it’s a 2017 so it was past do
Excellent video 👍🏻👍🏻 Hopefully, in 5 years, when it's time to replace that one, their new model will be the same size and not smaller. Otherwise, the larger hole you cut will be a problem.
Good point. I’m hoping we won’t have this RV still 😁
@DownsizingMakesCents are you gonna get another one? If so, which ones are you considering?
Appreciate the time you took with multimeter and explanation!
Thank you for recognizing it 🤗

Nice video, hope it will save a life or two or more. Love watching your repair and install vids, you are very thorough and explain everything so good.
Thank you. Larry tries his best to be thorough but concise.

No problem with the thinking of you. That’s the best and only way to do it.
Take it one step at a time.
Thanks Larry for saving lives. Literally! YOU THE MAN!!
Well, he’s saving our lives because he keeps leaving propane running on stove 😩
@@DownsizingMakesCents get some wood and solo stove 🤣
Great video. Thank you!

Thanks for the information on the alarm. I would have just cut the red wire and the black wire and wire nutted/crimped/soldered a new ones on.
Yes me too, but when making a video, i go over everything to make people who are newbies comfortable doing it themselves. Larr

James, it’s annoying but that’s the point. You can’t ignore it 😁

They are all the same they just offer some different shapes and colors

I agree it’s always best to de-energize the circuit, even 12v, but I was just being lazy. Larry
Dude totally happened to me as well. Replacing right now. FYI I found a replacement on eBay for much cheaper than Amazon. Still new in package.
That’s awesome.
Unfortunately, while traveling, we can’t wait and hope eBay gets to us in time. That’s why Amazon usually works for us,

Thanks. We learned a lot making this video
Excellent video! Very informative. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Pretty much
Yes, i eventually just cut the wires until the new one arrived, i know I shouldn’t do that for safety but i was being driven crazy by the thing. Larry

Yeah, the problem with a plug-in design. Will it work when you’re not connected to power? Does it have a battery in it? Lar
@@DownsizingMakesCents honestly I stopped caring, guess I'll die from gas.
We had the alarm go off, shortly after my spouse sprayed the area with a Lysol can
That’s interesting, I guess the gas in the can makes the sensor activate, larry
