did they realize that encouraging people to collect that much concentrated match sulfur is essentially a bomb waiting to happen. I'd wager it's actually illegal or at least frowned upon in britain to spend 8 years collecting the chemicals from that many matches
Good for him! That said, I did think Guinness Records also had a point. He decided not to use commercially-available matches because it was too tedious to scrape away the coating on the heads so he found suppliers who had match sticks without the coating. Since the official way required more effort and he'd essentially tried to take a shortcut, I think they were justified in denying him the record. That said, 8 years is a bloody long time so I'm glad Guinness eventually relented and it wasn't all a massive waste
thats bullshit. stripping the matchheads off doesn't take any skill. its just extra work that anyone can do. the actual skill is in designing and building the structure
@@lewis0705 Yes I think the skill and time should be rewarded, I understand standards, BUT who WOULD leave the igniter on the match? Did the other guy? ( who held the title before this) I have never seen anyone use that part.
With all the rules and pearl clutching in europe... I would think ordering that many matches in one place then collecting the sulfur mixture would be considered making a weapon of mass destruction and banned

I read the story of the rejection and thought it was heartbreaking and arbitrary. Thank you for doing the follow up and the favorable new ruling.
