I’ve received my copy Saturday, listen to it four times so far. I have to agree with you. It is stunning, and a great work of art for music. All the effects stand out so clearly. I always thought this was Waters best album! On another note, did you see David Bowie’s 50th anniversary of Aladdin Sane only a $25 record. What a disgrace and a shame I was really looking forward to something special! It says it’s a half speed master, I hope to God it’s not Abbey Road!
When Jeff Beck recently passed, I immediately thought of his beautiful playing on this album. He brought real emotion and immaculate tone to it. Beautiful box set.
I have the 33 and it sounds utterly incredible. This blows it out of the water. Seriously jaw dropping sound! Best sounding record in my collection now. Better than any UHQR or One-step
Thanks for the inspiration, you guys are going to rock. Decided to invest in the best rega Planar 10 equipment will be a year's savings. It will be extremely difficult to resist all your fantastic recommendations.
I've been wanting this album for quite some time but I just never pulled the trigger. I'm glad now that I waited as I have the 45rpm boxset coming in the mail. Thanx for the review!
I have a European '92 release of this. Last year a sealed copy was sold for €499.99 It is a piece of art musically with many great artists including the recently departed Jeff Beck.. One of my favourite Waters records for sure.
Thanks, as ever, for the review Michael. One point though…. unless I’m very wrong: it can’t come from the original master tapes as the cover art, and from what I understand the music itself, is 100% the 2015 remix not the 1992 original? Many songs on the remix are VERY different- including Perfect Sense Part 1 where the introduction has been changed completely to include HAL from Space Odyssey (as Roger did when he performed the song live). I love both, but to me the original is the original, and sonically, even on an old (gold) CD with the amazing QSound 3D is like no other record. Am I wrong or is it the 1992 version?
Agreed. I’ve got the original 1992 on CD&HDD and the 2015 remix on vinyl analog sounds. The authenticity, atmosphere, intensity and mix/mastering is better on the original, even though it’s a digital copy. I find the vinyl remix useful hearing other bits and pieces and even though tonally the vinyl is very good it doesn’t have the magic of the original. For the audiophiles I have a Linn Klimax LP12 which does a bang up job and even with it the original version has it. I won’t be buying the 45rpm.
Hi michael, i have received today my boxset very very well packed thank you👍. Just for you to know one gatefold is damaged, it's a factory issue as it was sealed. I won't bother to. send back the whole thing if the records are fine. But as it is expansive is there a way to have a replacement just the gatefold?? Even if that take a bit of time. I can email to the shop some photos if you want. Thank you
My copy arrived today it really is amazing what Roger’s and by extension Pink Floyd’s work does when juxtaposed against a truly black background. They just come alive. Love this recording with every penny(in my case).
Not released until 27-01-23 here in the UK. It's quite pricey so I am not sure I will be getting this one. But wouldn't be surprised if my mind was changed before the end of this video. 😉
Do you know the review of Vinyl-Check? He misses on the Analogue Production-Versions some essential on the vinyl-version: The software-generated 3d-Sound (which is only on the cd, he said)…..q-sound effects….
A great review. I am not clear nonetheless, why there included a digital step when analog tapes are there. Whilst, I commend AP for being transparent, did they use higher resolution than that by MOFI. The box set looks pleasing to the eye though.
I’m not a mastering engineer, but as far as i know this has Q sound baked in, which is a sound processing algorithm. I don’t know if this could actually be all analog.

Personally I would always prefer a 33 1/3 version over a 45 rpm because getting up every 8 to 10 Minutes to turn the discs feels to me too much of a break in the musical flow. But that's only my very personal opinion 🙂.
Albums using digital files can sound great, and high res (96/24 or 192/24) is bested by DSD :))) Audiophile quality and digital can mean the same I guess :)
The only downside of that beautifull release is to change side every 2 songs that breaks a bit the continuity of the album. Other than that it rules everything
