- Best friends Holly (Lindsay Wagner, The Bionic Woman) and Kate (Shelley Long, Cheers) share beauty and intelligence - but otherwise they couldn't be more different. Holly is a free spirited artist, a single mother living in the country with her daughter Jenny. Kate is a high-powered New York executive with no time in her life for anything but her job.
Until, that is, she receives a desperate message from Holly. Stricken by illness and with only a few months to live. Holly confronts a shocked Kate with a request: that when Jenny no longer has a mother, Kate should raise her as her own daughter. Holly knows that only Kate can give Jenny what she will truly need: unconditional love. Kate's life is about to change forever. Not only must she help Holly to reconcile herself to her situation and the inevitable loss of her daughter, but she must fight against Holly's family who are violently opposed to Holly's plans for her daughter.

Shelley Long is one of the most underrated actresses ever. She was, of course, the supremely lovely and endearing Diane of "Cheers", but she has been so powerful in so many other roles, too. Hollywood did not only her but itself a great disservice by forgetting about her post-"Cheers", leaving her to "small" projects by and large. But she always gives her all.
I agree that Shelley was under appreciated and if you watch Cheers closely, the emotional complexity of her work then was clear to see. Her reputation for being difficult on set may have denied her later work but just look at the results. I think her desire to do physical comedy kept people from seeing her overall talent. She's a throwback really. Her dignity and class would have put her right at home a century ago or earlier. It seems her desire to fit in and be understood for who she really is was not limited to Diane Chambers.
NortonsNestMonthly Yeah, she definitely has that "Classical Hollywood" feel to her, a la Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn. As for the reputation...well, just look at Marlon Brando's behind-the-scenes notoriety. Often, an INTENSE devotion to craft can make one come across as "difficult".
These are two ladies I would love to meet someday just to let them know how much I love their work. I missed this film, will have to look for it.

Two of the finest actors ever on television. Long took a strident jerk off, Diane from CHEERS and made her likeable and sympathetic, funny. Wagner took an absurd premise, Bride of Frankenstein and SOLD it. She earned an Emmy, for fucks sake, an unheard of feat at the time. To this day, The Bionic Woman is watchable because she's funny, strong and relatable.
Lindsay Wagner won an Emmy for "The Bionic Woman" only. She has been many nominated for awards in The Bionic Woman. She never did won/nominate for TV movies and films in her career. Most people only recognize her, best known for The Bionic Woman, not her films, sadly.
@@TheODLawson23 I disagree. Lindsay Wagner became the queen of TV movies in the 80's. The audience was able to get past her as the Bionic Woman and she had some of the highest rated TV movies of all time. She is very relatable and natural actress and that is why she was able to get past just being the Bionic Woman. Of course, the first thing people think of is that role, because of the huge impact it had at the time, but she was definitely able to move on from that role and be quite successful.

@@TheODLawson23 I don't think they gave awards out for TV movies in the 80's and 90's. Unless you know differently. If the did, she definitely would have won some!
