And that last chord of the first phrase is not what the Doobies play, though that's what I play. I haven't figured out what they're playing yet though I'm trying to figure it out off their live video.

i call the 1st chord a dmin7 flat 5 and use an open d underneath it. i use an open G pedal over.D DOM 7 to D MIN 7 same chords i call them by different name, nice work sounds great

That second part is not at all what the doobies play. One is playing octave c's and the other is up at the 10th fret.
