I was there in the fall of 1972 when the dairy first opened and cows were moved from the old barn to the Waterman complex. I believe there were only 2 silos at that time. Really sad to see it go, but change is inevitable. Time marches on. We sold our cows this Oct.
Thank you for your comment! I sure enjoy hearing the history of Waterman. I wish you well on your next chapter. Happy New year, may your 2022 be filled with much joy!
It's concrete. Cement is an additive. And it takes both the concrete and the steel to have the strength. Concrete is good in compression and steel is good in tension. Neither is good without the other. it came down because the operator took out the concrete.
they don't use them anymore, only big dairy farms now and then don't use silos such as these. Silos are sitting empty allover the country. It is grain farming now. It is sad to see them being torn down.
- knock two holes opposite sides -pass heavy long chain through - fasten two ends of chain to two pieces of equipment - pull back and forth until silo falls down Everybody happy 😊😊😊😊
I imagine the permit and cost is really expensive for explosives when dealing with state owned jobs... I do house demolition around campus and the red tape is thick!!
A clever combination of trick perspective photography, mis-use of earth-moving machinery and yellow tape at ground level as a commendable measure for public safety.
craftsmen who made em solos knew their job,s, them ring,s around em are the pain in their asses, bet dyminte wouldn't stand a chance, where is bonnie&clyde
To : osudairy, I alway's wanted to know how they take them down , I got the chance to see it in person on a abandoned farm and they also torn down a couple Barnes with very old farm tractors from the 40's ? But I really enjoyed watching the silo come down, and the old farm property was going to be a Children's Medical Center and have a CMC MEDEVAC for New Jersey? And it was great to watch them come down & they had 3 silos just like this osudairy...

you can skip ahead to 11:45 to see anything happen...
after watching for while ,that song ,im still standing come to my mind.
I continue to be amazed at the different approaches companies take at trying to knock down these things.
People's might think the cement is strong...the actual strong material is the steel.

i hope the camera person isn't too affected by the parkinsons.
dear people, put ur friggen elbows down when you film something zoomed
Skip to 11:50 to see it fall.
Probably another former farm just sitting there rotting away not producing anything more than likely.
Why were they using a Cat excavator in the beginning and a Deere to finish?
Tap. Tap. Tap it in
intresting
Gravity works! It's the law.
There it was, then it was gone.
Why was that so oddly satisfying?!
Tripod???
reminds me of shilo.
Now we know what best way to make a silo it will stand for several life times
That would suck if it fell on machine.
I fell asleep
Go to 11:50
😱😱😱😱😭😭😭🙈🙈🙈🙊🙊🙊
Fred Dibnah would turn in his grave if he saw this taking place. R.I.P Fred.
Did you like that!
Much respect to the engineers and construction workers that built that silo.
Back in the day when America was built by American tough men..lol
what does that even mean?
Alot of arm chair quarterbacks here ....
Оператор экскаватора решил свести счёты с жизнью!
ага я тоже так подумал
I would be really worried about that thing coming down on top of me. You would never out run it.
WHAT'S THE REASON TO DESTROY THESE EXPENSIVE SILOS? 2-1-19
they don't use them anymore, only big dairy farms now and then don't use silos such as these. Silos are sitting empty allover the country. It is grain farming now. It is sad to see them being torn down.
Insurance and taxes,that's the reason.
Wonder if they had invented tripods way back in 2011?

Everybody happy 😊😊😊😊
Lavoro molto rischioso... e ben riuscito..
A demo team from the Army would have enjoyed using it for practice.
Why not make it into a multi-level home with an elevator?
rly..
Put a deer stand inside it at the top there is a company do that
would it not have been faster and easier to implode it?
I imagine the permit and cost is really expensive for explosives when dealing with state owned jobs... I do house demolition around campus and the red tape is thick!!
I would never guess that this was a good way to remove a silo.
It all happens in the last 15 seconds of the video.
Thank you I can't take boring videos
I would have had better luck with a sledgehammer
hes not swinging the ball hard enough scared to hit the silo
My barn is gone but silo still stands. It will remain while im alive. We need to preserve some of the past and not always destroy it.
Get rid of the eyesores
Native Americans would like a word
Can`t you hold the camara still ??????
It went faster with a hammer. Is this way cheaper?
How many licks does it take? 🍭
Thanks Captain Obvious.
All that and no going down ? Sounds erm mmmm
(RUS) Spasibo interesno!!!
They make a jack hammer attachment
😂🤣😂 Just shows you how long you can string out knocking one of these things down when you’re being paid by the hour.

Momo
It's not falling cause not enough "enough bom bom"
Fill it up with fine grain dust in the air, then light off a spark. It'll be gone in one big boom .
just go to 11:50
Could of saved alot of money on bricks, if he knew it could stand tall on only 6 bricks.Lol
Which OSU facility did this happen at? I live a few miles from the OARDC in Wooster.
Columbus, OH
Skip ahead to 11:45 You're welcome.
I can't see Miley Cyrus,is she hanging on there???
I could fart and bring that thing down quicker
Ol Star silo kicking your arse, eh?
Why there is no cab protection?
Why take them down? Seems like a big waste!
Took him frickin long enough.
Climb in and get that regrind
Mantap
Hydraulic hammer
Think I would have kept the bucket on the machine, would have been quieter at least.
No bucket means more weight in the ball
No what I meant was, keep the bucket to use to push the teeth through the concrete blocks. Much more precise and quicker, and quieter.
The first two are not stave silos, they are slip poured, meaning it is all one piece of concrete. Hence the reason for the wrecking ball.

silos needed. Attention, silos needed. resources will be lost. silos needed.
They use bunkers now

You guys should have hired a real equipment operator

Trade center came down faster.
