It has been done. I don't know the name but there's a documentary published on youtube that did analyze Ronaldo's tenchnique, shot and much more.
The trick is in that little half step he takes before he kicks. Have a close look at it, it produces all the power.

No he doesn't follow through you must have as little as possible contact with ball at the right spot for trajectory that's why he can't do knuckle ball anymore it's insanely harder than curve free kick.
