As a beige Internet cousin, I appreciate that you were honest about not having any beige friends in the industry to discuss these things. I think many people (of every color, race, ethnicity, etc) are afraid of stating that these days, but the reality is we know who we know. Sure, we should ALL be trying to increase our friend and acquaintance circle, but sometimes it just is what it is. Thanks for your transparency throughout the video!

Hi Evelyn! Here is a potential avenue to getting the beige Influencer money conversation underway - which I think will be critical to understanding the money that could and SHOULD be in play for you: Asking your manager or other person you're in business relationship with if they have a white manager / Influencer friend to intro you to and broach the topic of discussing negotiations and pay scales. A lot of white people are feeling SUPER motivated to do something to help right the wrongs of systemic racism right about now but are wandering around like kindergartners at the county fair being fragile (raises hand). Hearing that there's something explicit and helpful that they can do for a black woman influencer that will take them about half an hour is a really easy sell right now. Plus, white feminists are always talking to each other about "knowing your worth" and negotiating, so this is a hot topic. And your business relationship person will benefit once you're aware of the SPECIFICS of hidden dollars being held back from you, because you can use it to strategize and negotiate with more power. I think you should make the most money of any influencer, because you are the best. And these white people know things that you should have access to, and they know they should share it with you. A manager or close business friend smoothing the path is a big potential win.
I screamed!!! I was the first cousin answered...I made the dog (literally, my sisters dog) see me on the tv!! Hahaha! I’m geeked!! Thanks for being so open with us!
So my advice is about what to expect for wages in South Carolina for youngins with business degrees. I'm an honors graduate, 3.74 GPA, various accolades on my resume, BS in Management. Imma just keep it a buck. I've made 11.88 an hour, 13.25, upwards of 60K a year selling cars, and now back to 16.60 an hour. 2 things hold true for my business people. You either go into sales or commission based work and potentially make great bank off top or you start from the bottom and work your way up and prolly be broke for a while. I mentioned my college resume because I'm the guy that figured I'd be set outta college with a quality resume and I wasn't. I had to swallow the pride pill early because no college grad is worth less than 40K a year. PERIOD. but the chances of seeing that in your twenties outside of a sales/commission position is slim. So don't devalue yourself, but also be ready to have to accept a wage that makes you ask why TF did I go to college? I know many can relate to my situation and others were blessed and highly favored. Hopefully this helps somebody here in SC that may be just starting out or will be thrown into adulthood shortly.

Right now, my channel is my biggest hobby and I’m trying to not rush myself into monetizing. I say that not to be like “small channel love if you give me a watch 😘✌🏼” but because I think with UA-cam specifically, folks rush to it as a potential side hustle bc we see folks making money off it. But a lot of people whose job is social media have been on here 5+ years.
Agreed. And you get caught up in trying to create too much content too quick without learning your way around. I’m a new channel, but, when it’s for me, it will be for me. God knows your heart and blesses accordingly. And He doesn’t honor greed.

I really appreciate the "I don't have beige friends" comment (I'm super beige) because I think especially in UA-cam land people say someone is a friend way to fast, after meeting maybe one time. I'm guessing that as influencers (just as other professions) it's very important to understand the difference between personal relationships and business ones.
My advice is for anyone going into architecture or thinking about doing so. The American Institute of Architects has a salary calculator that breaks down average salaries per region, firm size, and position. They include information on the lower quartile, median, and upper quartile for base pay. This is compiled from a survey they send out each year. I really wish more professions have something like this as it made salary negotiation far more straight forward!
