I would have had Chris Berman (long of ESPN fame) host the new version if he had wanted to do it. He's old enough to have appreciated both the original 1963-'69 and '70s run on CBS and I suspect would have had a lot of fun doing it.
The new version to me is a sad, former shadow of itself, trying way to hard to recreate the magic of the original Match Game. And Alec Baldwin is a total douche bag.
H/H match update for episode 1445 and End-of-Week Recap: ... ~~~Today's action: Connie's "Bag of Candy" provided the winning match for our champion who gets a second chance at the big money. *Today's audience match question: "Indianapolis_______"* My thoughts: (500, Indiana, ???) - I can't think of a sports team from back then. The Colts came to that town much later than 1979. The celebs: Marcia (Speedway), Connie (500), "Sweet William" (Indiana) The choice: 500 (The clear favorite of the current audience, not that that helped much last time.) The answers: Indiana, Speedway, 500 - The panel got them all. I guess even the audience back then couldn't think of a sports team from Indianapolis. For the final H/H of the week, the wheel favors Charles, but stops just short of a double. Stats: This is 24th time the wheel has chosen Charles (it prefers Brett, stopping 35 times on her name). Of those 24 times, 9 were doubles, and 13 times a match was scored. Looking back, Charles has matched 23 of his 44 most recent attempts (52.3%), and 47 of 93 attempts overall (50.5%). This is now his 94th and final H/H question of the Match Game '7x series. CNR was off what would be the final two (unaired) weeks because he was directing a stage play, but he returned for syndicated/weekly editions of MG as well as a regular slot in that 3rd chair for the short-lived Match Game (1990) which was hosted by Oregon native Ross Shafer. That iteration ran for 242 episodes on ABC (!) from July 16, 1990 to July 12, 1991. All 242 episodes, plus the pilot hosted by Bert Convy, are available on this same youtube channel. I've watched a few episodes, and the three weeks with Brett as a guest in her familiar spot next to Charles are nice, and other MG favorites appear, such as Betty, Jo Anne Worley, Jimmie Walker, Vicki Lawrence, others. Ross does a decent job, Charles is sharp, but the magic just isn't there. *Today's H/H question: "A Waste of_______"* (Time? Money? Space? I think "A waste of time" sounds most likely.) Charles writes his answer without hesitation and without input from Brett and calmly slides it in the slot. Ding. The champ gives the predicted response. The audience reaction is a 10. It's unanimous! "Time" Charles leaves Match Game '79 with one final H/H match, his 48th. ~~~The Week that Was: Panel-wise, a good week. Hard to believe that Charles won't be there for the last ten shows of the '79 series... Pretty good week in the H/H department too, with 5 questions (despite one Audience Match fail on Wednesday) and 3 matches. - Our H/H tally for this week: Fred Grandy 0/1, Connie Stevens 1/1, CNR 2/2, Marcia Wallace 0/1 Here's the rundown of the non-regulars: *Marcia* Wallace - Finished her 17th week on the panel, but she'll be back for her 18th and final week on the final week of the show. Her question in 1444 didn't end in a match. So far, she's scored 1 match in 5 attempts. *Bill* Cullen - Completed his 5th week and final week on the panel without a second shot at answering a H/H. (He was chosen once by a champion in one of his first two weeks: either 86-90 or 176-180.) *Connie* Stevens - Completed her 3rd and final week on the MG '7x panel, and her H/H in 1442 was her second, and she matched both times! *Fred* Grandy - Completed his one and only week on the MG '7x panel, his single H/H question in 1441 did not score a match. ...and of course, *Charles* completed his 235th week on the show (behind only Richard at 257 and Brett at 286). His H/H stats are now complete, and they are the best by far of all the regulars, and he's also well ahead of Fannie and Betty. The few celebs with higher matching rates have answered so few H/H questions that we have to take their stats with a grain of salt. Stats were fewer than 10 or 12 don't carry a whole lot of weight. After 20 attempts, I would put some stock in them. After about 40 attempts, I think the stats give a pretty good picture of the star's tendency towards good or less good answers. At any rate, Charles (and the team of Brett and Charles) really made the show fun and interesting for me as a kid, and I still love them. ~~~Looking ahead, we have 5 familiar faces joining our last regular Brett. Even without Charles, I have to admit it's a solid panel: ----- *Fannie Flagg* (last seen in eps 1431-1435) will return for her 90th and final week. Her H/H success rate is 46.7% (21 matches in 45 attempts), so she's clearly good at it. ----- *Dick Martin* (last seen in eps 1421-1425) will return for his 22nd and final week, this time filling in for Charles in seat #3. (Dick is one of 5 panelists to have sat in all three "male" seats. The others are McLean Stevenson, Gary Burghoff, Nipsey Russell, and Richard Deacon.) Dick has been chosen 3 times, but hasn't yet scored that first H/H match. ----- *Orson Bean* (last seen in 1101-1105) will return for his 16th and final week. Orson joined the Match Game family in episode 141 back in 1974. Orson currently sits atop the big leader board with his perfect score of 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts). ----- *Bill Daily* (last seen in eps 1436-1400) will return for his 14th (of 15) weeks on the panel. He remains in seat #5. He's also the most recent addition to the "3 match club" with 3 matches in 7 attempts (42.9%). ----- Last but not least, *Brianne Leary* (last seen in eps 1386-1390) will return for her second and final week on the show. Brianne became the 63rd MG celebrity to score a head-to-head match on her first attempt (in episode 1389). ~~~Finally, here's our updated leader board showing the 15 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies they've "retired" from the show and their H/H stats are now complete.) (For tied scores, the one with the greater number of matches is considered to be higher.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts). (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts). (*)Debralee Scott - 66.7% (4 matches in 6 attempts). (*)Joyce Bulifant - 57.1% (4 matches in 7 attempts). (*)Charles - 51.1% (48 matches in 94 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 50.0% (6 matches in 12 attempts). Elaine Joyce - 50.0% (3 matches in 6 attempts). (*)Betty - 47.2% (25 matches in 53 attempts). Fannie - 46.7% (21 matches in 45 attempts). (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts). Bill Daily - 42.9% (3 matches in 7 attempts). (*)Richard - 42.5% (373 matches in 878 attempts). Brett - 39.8% (43 matches in 108 attempts). (*)Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts). (*)Nipsey Russell - 25.0% (3 matches in 12 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1445, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. (Note: episode 849 was never produced.) These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036. These stats do, however, include results of episodes 1309 through 1317, found on channels other than this one. (For missing episode 1406, the results of the second H/H have been revealed and are included in these stats, but it's unknown which celeb played the first H/H, which was not a match.)
Here are the results from this week: Charles gave away the most money on his last week of Match Game 79 at a total of $6,600. Connie gave away $5,600 and Bill gave away $500. Charles also matched the most with a total of 13 matches, Brett matched 12 times, Connie and Bill matched 10 times, Fred matched 9 times, and Marcia matched 7 times.
For basically the rest of this shows CBS Run, Charles will be on a trip, so you will not see him. Next week, you will see Dick Martin. But, you may see somebody else there.

How did you see these episodes with the new set on GSN? The episodes that air Weekdays at 1 PM don't show any episodes with the new set introduced in '78.
No nothing to do with cars. The Indian Rubber Man was a series of books. And another take on that spun off into Circus performers who were incredibly limber. Rubber men. Like people who could put their foot behind their head kinda of thing. For theatrical effect they were usually men and portrayed and dressed as characters from India.
I’m guessing the reason this episode was not aired was due to Gene Raeburn’s arrogant attitude towards the guests and the panel . Also ‘skid marks’ on the sheets… lol!
