I just purchased a Bongo last week and its one of the best sounding basses I have played, The sound`s big, loud and punches with the force of a freight train. In general terms, powerful.
Update: I no longer have the Bongo due to a problem where the signal would not go through the amp and the repair techs at guitar center being incompetent not bothering to actually do something until 5 WEEKS after I dropped it off for repairs. They had no idea what they were doing and at that point, I was like screw it and made them pay out.
I didn't have many choices for a excellent factory made 6. I got a 6 string NG3. It was a thousand dollars less than the Bongo six, in Aus.
I used to think the Bongo looked weird and was mostly for funk players.
Now I have a Bongo fretless 5 string, and sold the two fretless basses I used to play. The Bongo sounds and plays amazing.
Listening to the demos, the Bongo sounds a lot like a Precision bass when you use the neck pickup. I'm tempted to sell another bass that has a P bass pickup and get a fretted Bongo.

I played one in a store once and it scared me. It scared me because I knew that I couldn't and wouldn't ever be able to afford it, and that I wouldn't ever play a bass of such great quality ever again.

Unplug the bass when not using it or the batteries will drain like you are playing it. The Jack also switches the battery current.
I used to hate the Bongo but now I love it. It has grown on me. I want one.

How is the reach on the Bongo 5 while standing? Does it feel like you have to reach very far to the left to get to the lower frets because of how the body hangs?
John Jareo I know I’m late but the reach is great. Iv got a hh 5 stealth. Very comfortable

Who knew that things sound better when you listen with your ears and not your eyes. ;) Bongos look...unique. but they feel surprisingly comfortable and sound incredible

Still unsure about the Bongo & with respect this demo seemed rushed & short as do many popular instrument Demos..
If guitar brands want musician's to buy something completely new that they have developed & released then at least invest in a longer demo than this & no doubt when I look there might be a few but I've just started looking back into maybe buying a MusicMan Bongo & the video Demos so far are sparse to say the least...
I need to do more investigating into the Bongo & try & get a hands on play first as that's your deal breaker right there & then & you can tell when holding a playing an instrument if its for you or not but since the Bongo's release they are few & far between in Instrument stores in my country as no instrument stockists have got another new model back in stock for quite a few years now & for a bass that's still in its infancy there should be more of these basses in stores with at least 1 per store or how are we going to know what this bass really feels & sounds like...
Back to researching this bass guitar...

Actually....The Bongo was co-designed by EBMM and BMW.......those funny German Car builders ..... making the Bongo one of the great designs of all time....except for a guy like you who plays a BLACK Squier P-Bass. 🤔
Shame the paint jobs are so fragile. You'll never see a bongo with an unchipped headstock
