    2. Make sure the hardworking people both new and old (from the old guard at Atari corp to the new developers keeping Atari alive) get the recognition that they deserve for their hard work
    3. Preserve the history of Atari in the video game hobby so that it survives long after us

    remember seeing this video about the Atari jaguar how one of the workers wanted the console to be in Europe mostly in the Uk .But Atari didn't even though " supposedly Europe was liking Atari more" I wonder would Atari jaguar be a huge success if Atari would have done it in Europe. Sorry i wasn't popping up school and other stuff anyway great video.

    • @TheAtariNetwork
      @TheAtariNetwork  3 місяці тому +1

      No problem you watch whichever videos interest you. So I remember reading that Atari had to choose a US release or a European release initially. They only had enough money to support one region. Europe was salivating over the Jaguar they wanted it, the US could care less. Especially compared to Europe. It's been a long time but I remember reading about that somewhere

      @@TheAtariNetwork Oh I'm not disputing the fact that these are gems. Just that they're hidden. Every year I attend a retro conference in WV and something that's become popular is my jag with a multitap running NBA Jam. This year it'll be on the featured table. Will be there next Thursday.

    VidGrid for the Jaguar Cd was a music video slide the pieces puzzle game. Not groundbreaking but a pretty unique game for its time. Probably doesn't get much talked about due to licenses considering it had songs like Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, Cryin by Aerosmith and November Rain by Guns and Roses.

    I'd put Pitfall over Zool 2 as the Jag's second best platformer. Sure, it isn't as buttery smooth as the Genesis version, but it's decent. Zool 2 just gets in its own way. Levels are too busy and speed is often cumbersome.

    My Atari Jaguar hidden gems; 1) BRUTAL SPORTS FOOTBALL. I'm not even into sports games and I think this game is incredibly fun. You can play as a football team of lizard people or futuristic viking people or one of the other teams who runs around with swords, cutting off the heads of enemies and beating other enemies with their teammate's decapitated heads while trying to score four touchdowns in one game. The game looks 16-bit, but it looks nice and it's just a fun game.
    2) RUINER PINBALL. Just a really fun game. I love the overall atmosphere of the pinball tables in Ruiner pinball. Looks 16-bit, but it's tons of fun.
    3) ULTRA VORTEK. A lot of people will ignore this because it's a Mortal Kombat rip-off and they already played the highly inferior Kasumi Ninja. The thing is that Ultra Vortek is actually REALLY AWESOME. Tons of fun. It's a billion times better than Kasumi Ninja (which is a terrible game. Yeah, both games have that Mortal Kombat vibe, but Ultra Vortek actually has really awesome gameplay and looks better than the incredibly crappy Kasumi Ninja) and while it's a Mortal Kombat rip-off, I actually enjoyed Ultra Vortek more than Mortal Kombat 1 and 2. Also, the digitize graphics look really sharp on the Atari Jaguar. Overall, Ultra Vortek is a really awesome fighting game (and it's easily the best fighting game on the Atari Jaguar).

    • @TheAtariNetwork
      @TheAtariNetwork  3 місяці тому

      I love ruiner pinball and considered it for the video. Maybe it'll have to go in a follow up. Ultra Vortek is my favorite mortal Kombat clone on the Jag. It's honestly my favorite fighting game period on the console. I was considering that too but I've already done a review and brought it up a few times on the channel.
      Brutal Sports Football doesn't do much for me personally but I can definitely see why you would enjoy it. Thanks for the input!

    The thing with NBA Jam Tournament Edition, is that the developers that ported this version made the game way too hard. Every shot, dunk or layup you attempt will bounce off the rim and you will quickly find yourself down by twenty points to the computer. I have to go to the options and put the difficulty to "Very Easy" just to make this game playable. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!

    • @TheAtariNetwork
      @TheAtariNetwork  3 місяці тому

      It definitely is hard but I didn't think it was that hard. I usually have close games though

  • @Fools_Requiem

    NBA Jam TE for the Jag is supposedly the BEST version of the game, even more so than the arcade version because of the extras the console version has. The issue is the high cost, so the Saturn version is likely more recommended.
    Iron Solider definitely deserves a mention. Its a really solid game.

    • @TheAtariNetwork
      @TheAtariNetwork  2 місяці тому

      @@Fools_Requiem I feel like Iron Soldier is well known for the Jag but maybe I was wrong. NBA Jam is so good for the Jaguar I really enjoy it. Looks and plays fantastic. My recommendation to everybody is getting a game drive for the Jaguar it's well worth the investment. And then collect carts if you're interested in the games after playing them on the game drive.

    Attack of the Mutant Penguins is unique game. I believe it is an exclusive hidden gem. Power Drive Rally is another great game.

  • @socrates0603
    @socrates0603 3 місяці тому +1

    I love the intro where you positioned what a “hidden gem” is - something relatively unknown sitting between console defining games and the utterly dismal games that brought down the console. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it defined in those terms.
    I didn’t’ realize NBA Jam was released on the Jaguar. I loved it on the SNES. Great list of games! They all look fantastic. I-War looks very interesting, and I found Cybermorph a lot of fun. I’m a big Defender fan so will need to check out Defender 2000.

    • @TheAtariNetwork
      @TheAtariNetwork  3 місяці тому +1

      The library for the Jaguar is small so I think most people who are interested know them all. So I'm hoping this video helps new owners and people just learning about it to dig a little deeper and learn more of the games! NBA Jam is overlooked on the Jag but it plays really well. It might be my favorite version personally!

  • @KGRAMR
    @KGRAMR 3 місяці тому +1

    People who have player the Jaguar version of NBA Jam T.E. (myself included) consider it as probably the best and most complete iteration of the game. Player scaling, more secrets and cheat codes than any other port, and the fact that Adisak Pochanayon (programmer of the Jaguar port) did it in less than 6 months by porting the arcade's code to the Jaguar.

    • @TheAtariNetwork
      @TheAtariNetwork  3 місяці тому

      It's a great version of NBA Jam to be sure and nobody, not even Jaguar fans ever seem to bring it up. I'm glad there are people out there who appreciate it though!

    It's too bad that this console was mostly used for 6800 ports. The true umph of its custom chips were ignored.

    • @ArneChristianRosenfeldt
      @ArneChristianRosenfeldt 3 місяці тому

      Then don’t look at the ports! Anyway, the true umph of the 64 bit memory was ignored. At the same time the i486 used burst of 4 reads. Combined with 64 bit, 256 bit would arrive at the chip. Do we really need a double line buffer for 2d games ? What if we had used the 1440 bytes as buffers at every component (distributed over the chip)? Maybe 2d would still be twice as fast as on the 3do. Cache two bursts so that a JRISC loop fits in.

    They are okay. There were so many options at the time that none of these games really stood out.
    Also Tempest is one of the most over hyped over rated games ever. It’s fun but dang people go on like it’s some must own game. It’s not.
