Jpop/citypop is one of the greatest musical rabbit holes, so many artists and live great performances, watching y’all react is almost like I’m hearing this song for the first time
City pop is the sound of my childhood. I grew up being a nerd kid, obsessed with Japan, anime and Jpop. That were the 90s, so the sound of Jpop back then was exactly this one. Nowadays it's called City Pop, but no matter the name, this music is the best for me. It always moved my heart, it has some kind of magic and nostalgia that is only found in Japan's pop music in the 90s.
Idk man the nostalgia isn’t ONLY found in city pop lol. It’s nostalgic to you because you grew up with it but the nostalgic “sound” can be found in black music from the late 60’s to early 80’s which is what city pop is based off of anyway. It always always always comes back to black American music of the times
Ikr when it comes to City Pop, we all feels the same the teens everywhere saying the same thing "nostalgic" even though they were even born at the time. That feeling must be much more tense since you actually experienced yourself growing up with them
Can't believe no one is reccomending these three listen to Taeko Ohnuki's 4AM, that song gives me so many chills and has a major bop at the end of it, it's not the 80s but it did release in 1979 so it's close. Or any of her songs especially her songs in the Sunshower Album, very chill and her voice is very... eerie, fits her songs tbh.
@@jackconorria4033 Tokai is apart of the Sunshower Album, I like all the songs in it so I figured Id rec the whole album to them so Tokai especially didn't get skipped
even though i was born in 2010, but i really like 80s songs, the atmosphere brings me back to the past, the beautiful view of the night city, filled with neon lights while listening to this song, ahhhh... it's the most beautiful sight in my life
I was also born in the year 2010, and have been feeling nostalgia for the 80s, despite having never been alive them. Honestky, city pop is amazing, and the 80s neon vibe too~ Wish I was alive then!
I agree 100% when you said city pop is one of the best genres out there. it literally never fails! AND YES PLEASE JAZZ IS SO PERFECT TOO, so I'll drop two links today haha: City pop: YUKIKA - lovemonth (she is part of the new citypop movement, she is japanese but she debuted in South Korea, she is great) ua-cam.com/video/jGe55Ff066g/v-deo.html Jazz: Tony Bennett ft. Lady Gaga - it don't mean a thing ua-cam.com/video/LYfF9VKMp4w/v-deo.html Oh, and I have a suggestion about a different genre. Do you guys like folklore music from different countries? I'm from Spain, and this year one of the candidates to represent my country at the Eurovision song contest were a group named Tanxugueiras. It is formed by three young women from Galicia (north of Spain, a land of magic and many old traditions). I'll leave here their performance of their song 'Terra' too in case you want to check it out. Sadly they won't represent Spain in Eurovision in the end, but they were the audience's favorites and all their music is honestly one of the best things I've ever heard. They mix muñeiras (traditional Galician dance that has a very distinct music) with modern beats and sounds. Hope you guys like them if you give their work a try! ua-cam.com/video/4uGN9efcACw/v-deo.html Thanks, I know this was long to read, sorry :')
Anything Yukika is City Pop perfection! Her SOUL LADY album is so fucking great! There is just something about City Pop that is just feels "different" even though it uses elements of Funk, Disco and Rock. It really feels like it's own distinct genre.
I don't mind, thank you for taking the time to express. Can't make any promises because we have so many requests, but we definitely will check out the links

As a Japanese, I always thought she was singing "Friday." After all, a Japanese would not differentiate between "Flyday" and "Friday," except "Friday" would be written "フライデー” with the bar at the end.
