A lot of people don't realize many aspects of soo many movies in the 70's and early 80's as they were "Thee First" (insert type/etc.) movie! And the start of "The Golden Age of Cinema." And as @michaelcarey8388 notes - He keeps getting back up!!! That was thee scariest aspect of this one! For me anyways - we went from basically 'happy joy joy movies' to this whole new world of movies never done before! Yeah, this. So many reactors get mad about Laurie assuming that he's dead because they're jaded from 50 years of horror movie tropes. They know that the killer is going to get back up. Audiences in 1978 weren't jaded because they hadn't been exposed to those tropes. People also seem to forget that the character isn't aware that she's in a movie.

.I'm glad that Addie found it as scary as she did. By modern standards, Halloween is pretty tame in comparsion to a lot of the horror movies that would follow it. But it was one of the trailblazers and basically gave birth to the slasher movie genre. You wouldn't have Freddy Kruger or Jason Voorhees without Michael Myers, and the Scream franchise would make a lot of the tropes and clichés that Halloween established a self-aware element of its own story.
Hi Addie. You were the perfect person to react to this exactly because you were so scared. Your reaction was genuine. I've seen this movie more times than I can count and it's definitely an all time favorite. From the score, to the build up of tension, the camera work, and it doesn't rely on gore etc.
Man, there's just something special about hearing Addie drop the f-bomb against her will, lol. Hope we get a lot more of that in the coming weeks, I was already pleasantly shocked when she let it slip during Prey, lol.
So far your reaction to this and popcorn in bed’s is my favorite. Because everything you felt and how you reacted was what people who made this film described was their intended desired reaction and what they say audiences do in 1978.
She's REALLY gonna squirm if she ever watches The Exorcist (1973). Her reaction to that movie will allign well with the torment that many 1973 moviegoers went through.
My mom saw this back in the day when it first hit theaters. She said she didn’t sleep for like…2 days. 😳 since our house is out in the country in the middle of nowhere, when they were dating my dad would bring my mom home they’d get out of the car and he would start doing the Halloween theme and my mom would yell at him, “Don’t you DARE do that out here, Julius! Quit SCARING me! You know I HATE that!” And he’d be laughing as she stormed inside the house 😂
I always get told a story that my aunt let me watch this when I was 3 because my sister and other cousins wanted to watch it and I promised I wouldnt get scared. I lied apparently haha. But she was early 20s and not used to watching kids and she was watching all the cousins that night and gave in. That was in the summer. In the fall when this movie would come on like every other day on TV id never be in the room but apparently I would hear the theme in my room and piss myself because it scared me that much. That's how effective the score of this movie is. Its now my favorite horror film and I listen to the score when im driving to relax but yeah that's my fun anecdote 😂
My favorite Easter egg in this film is the James Ensor poster in Laurie's room. He was a Belgian expressionist who did paintings of people in creepy white masks.
I think a lot of the genius of this movie is the sound design. While I find the movie extremely tame (having been introduced to it before I was even 10 lol), the sound design in this movie is INSANE. That damn heavy breathing is unsettling as hell. The sudden sharp sounds create jump scares just by themselves without necessarily needing the visual cues. Then you get the visual genius in long, steady and sustained shots. The movie takes its time and slowly builds up the suspense and then just floods the viewer with everything seemingly all at once. It’s absolutely brilliant for its time and really did catapult the horror genre into the golden era.
Addie, great that you reacted to this classic!!! John Carpenter had a limited budget to produce this movie. He actually got it done in 21 days. The original screening to the studio was not well received. However, that screening did not have the music soundtrack yet. He then went into his studio and recorded the soundtrack, almost all electronic, and after adding it showed it to a screening audience. It was a huge success! I first saw it as a midnight show on Halloween night in 1978 in San Antonio. The midnight show was the first ever showing of it in the city, and it began its regular theatrical run the following week. Again, great reaction! I definitely now recommend Carrie from 1976!

Wow addie you made it thru the whole movie! I kept waiting for you to karate chop the screen. Addie:" it's so dark I can't see"... maybe it was your hands up in front of your eyes. Haha 😂 Great reaction and thanks for watching this classic! Luv ya Addie❤💛
I love the way you react to the movies. You are a type of person I would love to watch horror movies with. I tend to be stoic when watching horror movies.
This movie was one of the first movies to use the "PanaGlide" camera system that allowed for extremely smooth camera movements even from a moving cameraman. It's really apparent in the opening scene with young Michael Myers.
This film uses so many subtle and not so subtle techniques to create a sense of unease ranging from the music to the use of shadow but my favourite is the last sequence of shots. After Michael is shot he vanishes then they cut between multiple images containing no people. To me it always feels like Carpenter saying that Michael is part of Haddonfield. A masterpiece of suspense.
Parts of Illinois didn't have 911 emergency service until the early 80s, so there's a very real possibility that, in 1978, her neighbors couldn't call 911. Still, they could have just called the regular number for the local police. This is a classic. It's very evocative of the Halloween season, it takes its time and lets the anticipation build, and there is no gore. I don't mind blood, but disgusting sights stick with me, so I really appreciate that last point.
If Mr. Miyagi was trying to teach you karate, instead of "wax on, wax off" he'd say "Michael on screen, Michael off screen." Pretty soon, you'll be kicking butt.
Heyyy, it’s the start of some scary Addie-ventures! Nice start with the new opening. Starting off with the classic and its easily recognizable piano theme. 9:59 … freeze frame? Nope, just frozen with fear. 45 years later it’s still doing what it was meant to do. Scaring first time viewers. You did great. Take care of yourself, Addie!
Addie I can't believe you were able to sit through this one. Congrats on taking in this classic. The brilliance of this movie is the stalking and the creation of suspense the stalking. The kills are not overly elaborate necessarily for a horror movie but the terror comes from the suspense
“That was fast” 😂 I thought the same when I first watched. Like this little kid walked around the house went into the kitchen grabbed a knife and it was over. A true minuteman
Love your channel and reactions, Addie. I hope you do The Exorcist, and Hereditary this October. Those are must-watch horror movies for this time of year. Honorable mention for Carrie (1976) and The Blackcoat's Daughter.
Well, you'll be thrilled to know that Halloween 2 starts about a minute after this one ends! Anyway, for a period of time, Jaime Lee was the literal queen of slasher films. 4 horror films starring her in a row. 3 of which were pretty watchable. Well, not for Addie, but for less horror adverse folks.

JLC was just a year old when her mother Janet Leigh was filming Psycho. Janet also has a cameo in Halloween H20.
I really like your Kung Fu, scary, hand pose.😂
It's also funny seeing u swear, you're usually so proper.
Addie with the hot take: "(Michael Myers) You're messed up sir!" 😂
Oh Addie, Happy Spooky Season🎃 One of my Favorites with the OG Jaime Lee❤
You should totally watch Starship Troopers if you haven't yet it's a great science fiction action movie with aliens!
The karate hands are just priceless , haha
I love the Addie Fu pose through 90% of the film. Michael wouldn't stand a chance... if he somehow came to life and crawled through the screen. 😉
Oh you have to do more horror movies now. This was pure entertainment .
#MoreHorrorMoviesForAddieCounts
Her reaction to "The Shining" last year was just as entertaining.
@@ComeOnIsSuchAJoyOh that's on a must watch. Feel bad that I enjoy seeing her in fear....on second thought no I don't because it's fun!
she's a good reactor
I literally lol when you said "That was fast." Love your reactions!
Addie I can't believe you were able to sit through this one. Congrats on taking in this classic. The brilliance of this movie is the stalking and the creation of suspense the stalking. The kills are not overly elaborate necessarily for a horror movie but the terror comes from the suspense
I'm going to watch this reaction every October from now on! I hope you give the others a chance. Bring your dog with you to protect you!
The Deadly Hands of Addie Fu will protect you from horror movies! She even provides clear instructions at 0:19:22 and 23:15
“That was fast” 😂 I thought the same when I first watched.
Funny thing it was made on such a low budget they actually gathered leaves and moved them from scene to scene
JAWS 2 was released before Halloween, which makes JAWS 2 the first movie with an unstoppable killer stalking a group of young partying characters.
That sit up scene was the scariest thing I ever saw as a kid.
I can't help saying: your reactions to horror movies are adorable ❤
Alien, Evil Dead and Excorcist are rather tame 😜
She did "Alien" last year.
03:10 I waited so long for this. Thank you Addie. Great reaction and I hope you watch some more Horror during spooky season. 👻This fan says thank you. 🤗
October should have a mandatory heart rate monitor on a corner of the video
26:23 - Addie does a visual imitation of Curly from the Three Stooges.
No, Addie. It's not over. 'Halloween II' is the immediate sequel to this movie, which you definitely need to watch.
Unless you skip it and go to the ones from 2018-2022. Not saying people *should*, but people do.
I don't think any of the sequels are worth it honestly. Such big steps down
Cuss all you want Addie! Your fans love you!
addie and her karate hands
I RARELY hear Addie curse.
