Thanks for the informative video Daryl, I was biking around the same area last week trying to work out exactly what was going on. I see the bitumen plant and road sealing is going flat out, but they are still forming the road base down near the south end towards Peka Peka. Awesome project and progress!
Six months, a year, anything like that. I saw some asphalt on some of it. Could be a year, could be three years. That's how it goes. Sorry, I don't really know.
When the time comes , I am NOT , repeat NOT going to miss driving through otaki at all . Nothing wrong with its people and town , just the traffic chaos state hiway one has with single lane and traffic light pedestrian crossing .
Yeah, I hear you, the traffic through there is the last bottle neck after Transmission Gully is open. Of course, a duel carriageway to the north of Levin is needed to finish the traffic plan, because the traffic goes north of Levin, half through Shannon and half through Foxton.
Hi Darryl, nice informative video I've stumbled across here! I drive freight trains based out of palmy and it is great fun watching the progress as the months go on. Heading north the track climbs from the station, through the cutting to the bridge across the Waitohu stream then downhill across Taylors Road toward Forrest lakes. The sand trap is a new feature in case a train overruns a red light on the "departure" signal, stopping the train from entering the mainline and potentially causing a collision. Unfortunately the track is only double tracked to Waikanae so what you are seeing here is a 629m crossing loop to allow trains to pass each other. Cheers 👍
@@christophercarran4164 Thanks for the technical info there. I wish that the road builders would make videos that explain the designs as if the audience is interested. Some of the general fly-bys over projects have good video, but little in the way of explanations of features.
Great Video, They pulled back a huge amount of space from the railway. The New Road will improve getting through Otaki hugely, Thanks for sharing
Can't wait!
Hi Darryl. Wedding venue was previously the Otaki Dairy factory for town milk supply. Great video of the Rahui area.
Thanks for the info! Is a pretty cool looking dairy factory.

Glad it was helpful! I like to see what is happening along the construction process.

My video from a couple weeks ago. ua-cam.com/video/kDSXoGQ7jpU/v-deo.html
Do they have an idea of when it's going to finished and open?

In hindsight it must be down hill at the railway sand drag, because there is a pond at the side.
