i personally believe the top tier BIM coordinators / drafter are the ones who have the hands on field experience with their drafting trade. i am a plumbing mechanical pipe drafter. i worked out in the field as a journeyman plumber for 10 years before advancing into the office. Once i learned the modeling software it was a wrap, knowing the trade already gives me a huge advantage over others and in coordination meetings. i didn't go to school at all other then my trade school for plumbing

I'll be an international student in Sydney and I just graduated as Civil Engr in my country, knowing my degree wont be applied in Australia, I am excited to study (civil) and apply starter drafting jobs in Sydney, hope I will be accepted.
Last but not least, DO NOT take a student loan for that degree. The job market is shaky for any construction right now. Plus, the entry level drafting pays horribly (((.

I'm finding my Bachelor of Architectural Design course to be less about job-ready skills, that will help in the real world, and more about indoctrination and artsy fartsy bullshit.. It's really quite frustrating.. There's very minimal taught on drafting, CAD, and especially anything to do with designing structures that can actually be built.. I'm actually looking to transfer to a drafting course, and revit courses..
I found that the case too, especially for the first year. Though I think it does get into more practical skills, it’s a slow journey to get there, mainly doing more practical stuff in the final years.
@@kylesinko I've actually had the opposite experience..
