Damn! At 1:32 you can really hear the fledgling riff that turned into 'Jara' in Shore by Fleet Foxes.

@@bephanie I can hear that… Just mean it’s really prominent in the instrumental.

Jesus, that man is such an amazing, genuine artist... love him so much. Apparently he's living in New York now and he's recently made music for some Broadway play...

    Midnight in the swaying leaves
    midnight in the field
And the moon is like a sheet
    covering the shield
And you told me, "Come along"
    carrying away
    "To the Derwentwater stones
    and I know the place"
All the faces in the moss
    look like those I've known
Or like bruises on the rocks
    on the broken stone
And the voices speak to me
    and the faces change
    And the rhododendron seeds
    bloom and stain the range
And you tell me to be good
    now I'm on my own
Through the red and auburn wood
    to the broken stone
    Midnight in the swaying leaves
    midnight in the field
And the moon is like a sheet
    covering the shield

      I think it might be
      Midnight in the swaying leaves
      Midnight in the few
And the moon is like a sheep
      Covering the shoe
And you told me come alone
      Ect.
Everything else i hear the same as above

after reflecting on the song tonight:
      Midnight in the swaying leaves
      midnight in the field
And the moon is like a sheet
      covering the shield
And you told me, "Come along,
      Carrying no weight,
      To the Derwentwater stones."
      And I know the place.
All the faces in the moss
      look like those I've known
Or like bruises on the rocks
      on the broken stone
And the voices speak to me
      and the faces change
      And the rhododendron seeds
      bloom and stain the rage
And you tell me to be good
      now I'm on my own
Through the red and auburn wood
      to the broken stone
      Midnight in the swaying leaves
      midnight in the field
And the moon is like a sheet
      covering the shield

Hear ye, hear ye! Stop worrying about music as marvelous as this having the amount of views it does.. Why would we want such pure beauty run through the bowels of mass media?
Oh and since thousands want to run to the woods and live off the land.. why don't we start our own society?

Tom T No, not yet....but maybe someday as a record store day exclusive, or a 10 year anniversary box set for Helplessness Blues. I keep waiting, and hoping 😌

    • @thunderkid1984
      @thunderkid1984 6 років тому

Yeah, me too! I'm bummed it didn't make it onto the forthcoming retrospective collection they are releasing, that seemed to be a very appropriate place for something like this. I guess it didn't make it because it is Robin just solo. Shame though, this is one of the best songs Robin has written.

    • @Mockingbird819
      @Mockingbird819 6 років тому

Tom T This song was written during the Helplessness Blues era, so if it’s to be found on a 10 year anni box set it’ll be for HB, possibly along with “I’m Losing Myself” and the cover of “ Where Is My Wild Rose”, recorded during that same time period 😊
