X!Gaster used to be someone I didn’t think about, but now.. I realized something. I think he’s a representation of a creators envy, perfectionism, and apathy. He rewrote his world so many times because it was too much of something. He wanted his au to be as great as the others. He didn’t think about how he was hurting X!Frisk and X!Chara as he went further down into madness.
i think recent episodes really laid it out for us. xgaster wanted a perfect story, as good as any other in the multiverse. hes a true representation of a creator in every way. we see he used to visit other aus and timelines (he was such a regular visitor of the omega timeline that core frisk knew his favorite tree to sit under after all), and hed then bring those ideas into his own story the only reason hes the villain is because, unlike real life, his creations are real with feelings, and so its unethical to play with them that way. his perfectionism and apathy made him forget that he isnt a writer, he isnt creating a story, but a world for the brothers to live in. in the real world, hed be hailed as a legendary writer. here, hes nothing more than a heartless monster i think when you look at xgaster as a character, you should look at his own "creations" too. after all, he created them, and they really are his own reflections. when xpapyrus called him out and told him to get his own feelings sorted out, i viewed it in a way as his past self, the timeline I gaster desperately telling him to look at himself again, stop having his head up his ass. he must remember that xtale wasnt created to be a story for him. it was created for frisk and chara. there isnt much i can say about xgaster that hasnt been said already. one thing i really liked about xgaster is that his 'overwrite' ability came from perseverance, unlike 'reset' which came from determination. thats a fine distinction between perseverance and determination and very much easy to understand: determination lets you get back up from your feet after every failure, perseverance keep dragging yourself on the ground even after youve fallen down. looking at it like that, xgaster is perseverance personified. he doesnt have a 'plan B', it either works or it doesnt. its either perfection or failure, there is no in between hes a perfectionist with too much perseverance. he cannot let go. thats why ink got so attached to him as well, because whereas all these people are leaving the fandom and hes becoming forgotten, one creator will always stay, always keep creating. ink only realized recently that hey, maybe creation isnt all good when he had to brutally feel what all of xgaster's creations feel. if you cannot be satisfied and constantly chase after perfection, all thatll wait for you is pain the theme of perfection and failure is kind of like negativity and positivity, or creation and destruction. jakei just introduced a whole new balance to the underverse: perfection cannot exist without failure, just like hour negativity cannot exist without positivity, or creation with destruction. whenever a character become antagonistic, they always fall too hard on one side of these spectrums. but at the end, he really is just too big of a perfectionist

I love how the moment this song is played in Xtale, is the moment XGaster is killed by his own creations. And he doesn't see it as a failure but a success. And this song perfectly captures that fall into madness and the feeling of twisted victory. The writing in this series is amazing!
This isn't the song your thinking about i'm pretty sure, but this song has alot of motifs from that song, which still makes your point valid about gaster seeing this an success and not an failure, except it's with him trying to mess with frisk and him declining to join him.

This XGaster theme is more similar to some of the themes from the movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas" than actually an Underverse theme, I just love it!
Something interesting about XGaster's themes, both of them have to do with **RE**-doing something, Relight and Rekindle, it connects well with his ability to Reset, in a different notation, that being the overwrite button he has, it's very clever, good on you Nyx and Jakei

I love how XGASTER pretty much represents a content creator obsessed with his craft , so into making his own story and regulating the XEVENT of making every world one he won't let anything or one get in his way , I think the underverse series might end with XGASTER making DELTARUNE through the XEVENT
