@Hashoshi4 you're exactly right, I've had this happen and they actually shut down my spare phone and after wiping some voice mails opened it back up,
+ I've just got a new main phone and the shop staff said its not letting them set it up after they had put in all my details, they then said we'll start again with an identical phone which this time worked and I'm sure they've used my details to clone my phone as I never saw either of the staff do a reset on the first phone 🤨

This is the best video I've seen about sim swap. I think the best option is to have a separate device offline to log into the other ones
Tmobile told me my sim swap scam was done in store. How they were able to do this is beyond me. The request to have sim changes done only in stores would not have protected me in this instance. Scary!
In store should always be facilitated with an ID, clearly they did not check. The major issue is that most places either A) have insiders that help perform the swaps, or B) it's easy to bribe an underpaid store employee to just do the hacker a favor. A costly favor at that.
That's why all the other ducks must be in a row. AKA, NO SMS 2FA haha

I was surprised to see my provider was taking these issues as serious as they were. When I upgraded to the S20 last week. I placed my order online for in store pick up. Immediately got an email asking if it was really me and confirmed it was. Then 30 minutes later I get another email saying my order was on hold until I called the fraud detection dept. After speaking with them my order was finally confirmed. Went to pick it up later that evening and was required to show both my ID and CC used to purchase. Because I know what I do I wasn't bothered by this long process at all. Actually really impressed by it.
That's excellent! I hope more providers take this approach. It's inconvenient but necessary. BTW :) good opsec not posting your provider.

@@Hashoshi4 Yeah it was a welcomed surprise. Even if they weren't, I have my 2fa set up on a seperate non sim phone and have used only a Google voice number forever now. Unless you know me irl good luck getting my number. 🤜🤛

What about getting a new cheap phone and a new prepaid SIM card and never connect it with the internet meaning turning off the mobile-data and then use it only for online banking purpose and nothing else. Would that be safe?
This happened to me. Worst experience of my life. Never i mean never let your phone out of your sight. Especially if you go to get your phone "fixed". Went through 7 phones during covid.

This is such great information. I'm scratching my head going OMG. I do have a question. Do you know how to delete passwords that is hooked up to Google account FROM the phone without deleting them from the google account? Although I never access financial info on my phone or save it on my computer for automatic logging in.

Hi, Can you make a video about SIM LOCK, this feature available in Android and iPhone. How is the sim lock work? Would it prevent SIM SWAP? AND further more about Esim. Would Esim prevent sim swap since it's not a physical sim card? Thanks

What about google authenticator? if you have that on your phone
I don't use it with your phone.
Google Authenticator is better than SMS, even on your phone, but it's not perfect. I'd recommend YubiKey authn it's the best. OR, you can use Google Authenticator on an old phone without a SIM card in it so it is air gapped

And back in 2010 I went to file my taxes and they told me that SS# already filed. Like WTF?!? Then 10yrs later I throw away my PIN#, as I wasn't filimg that year, and find out I actually DID need itin order to get my stimulus check!? Oof was that a year long headache! Finally student loans paid off at a deep discount though so that's something. Life's a bitch, get a lock. Just not LifeLock®™😂😂😂

There are some other 2FA apps other than Google Authenticator. That way the hackers have to try and guess which one you are using....

And store my cryto and crypto wallets like Exodus and Trust wallet apps on that phone and leave it at home and just use my wifi to buy or trade ect...? Is that the idea? Your cellphone won't have any service. That's how you know someone swapped your sim.
I don't understand why google authenticator is better than sms. If someone's mobile is taken then the attacker can see the google authenticator too. Am I right?
In a sim swap your Google Authenticator secrets wouldn't be transferred.
How bout when you calll your service to not let the swim swap take. Place over the phone and there English is so bad. That. There tryin an to help you do a swim swap
