Great feats of strength in a lens I hadn't seen before, what are your thoughts on the fact they have clear handles on most bouldertypes weights compared to clean surface spheres in strongman? Not to take away anything here, but it would seem easier?
My grandfather saw me snatching a while ago and said he used to do something similar. And when I went back to visit Pakistan he showed me exactly what he meant. It’s nice to see this sport get some recognition, thanks zack.
I was born in Karachi, Pakistan. A lot of the chai walas (roadside tea salesmen) came from these villages and regions of Pakistan, and they would often have various stones next to their stalls. They would train and compete amongst themselves in their free time. Its cool to have a western spotlight on these traditional lifts.
The reason why they catch the stone with one hand is because of the rule of the lift. While Lifting the stone no part of the body should be in contact with the stone except the palm. Also while lifting they are not supposed to use their thumbs. The 1 arm Stone Snatch was from the Southern Part of India and these lifts are common in the surroundings I live. And because of persons like you, traditional lifting is being recognized. Thanks for covering these things, bro. Thank you so much.
While studying in college in Peshawar (Pakistan) I used to travel every weekend via pu lic transport back home and there used to be a guy in his 50s who would load luggage on top of the bus and one time I saw him carrying loading a motor cycle on the top by carrying the bike on his shoulder and climbing up the ladder to place it on top. Some of these laborers have insane strength.
That is laborer creed. Does not matter which country. I see tiny looking 110 pound Vietnamese movers here in US carrying insane loads. Just grab and go. Unbelievable.
How to read the stone reading :- multiply the first number by 40 add the second number. e.g 4/10 means (4x40)+10 =170kg. The last stone was 5 maunds = 200 kgs
@Robert Fox tbh I don’t know how accurate the actual written marking is, it is probably a rough estimate, so probably not actually 190 kg but still quite impressive.

The last stone which was labelled '5' is 200KG. The weight classification on the stones are a very traditional punjabi weight system. They use the term 'Maan' which equates to 40KG per unit. So if a stone say's 5 it means its 5 Maan which is 200kg. Or if the stone reads 4 30, that would mean 4x40 (4 Maan)=160kg + 30kg = 190kg

I love these things, traditional strength sports are always so bad ass! I've seen the weightlifting technique for the atlas stones but never the one had cleans and the rectangle stone to shoulder. Absolutely wild!
In the Punjab region of Pakistan and India, the term '4/20' refers to four Mann, which is an old regional unit of weight. Another traditional unit of measurement used in this region is the 'ratti.' It is important to note that '4/20' does not mean 420 pounds. But weight on the sides is in kg and we can use that for reference!!
You know the ancient Greek dude Bybon who allegedly put a 300 lb stone overhead one handed? Must have been something like this! And that one hand swing technique used to be done in the west as well except with dumbells and kettlebells. Herman Goerner did a ~210 lb swing with two kbs in one hand then using his free hand added a third to that stack overhead then lifted a fourth overhead for a total of 430 lbs.

Their Atlas-like stones are interesting, because they have two little slots/grips on the bottom of the stone. Looks like it makes it possible to jerk the stone.
Really cool to see you feature these guys, I’ve watched a ton of these videos, thier strength and mobility are out of control, and thier lifting culture, how awesome would it be if neiborhoods here in the u.s. got together once a month to lift stones and eat barbecue
hi zack, earned a sub from pakistan through this vid btw the stone at 16:00 weighs 5 من ( pronunced munn) 1 munn=40 kgs, so 5 munn is equal to 200kgs whenever you see singles numbers written anywhere with the symbols above, just multiply the number by 40 and you'll have a metric answer in kgs
Love this sport, i come from a village in Pakistan where this is still a celebrated event, my uncle was famous for his lifting back in his college days. One thing i would love to point out, the ODD LIFTS clips are from India, most likely from south side, so hats off to Indian lifters as well. Gotta give props to our neighbors as well.
It looks like the last stone lifting event in the video only needs the weight to be sort of shouldered and the other hand to be released for the lift to count. It would be a good addition to require the lifter to jerk or press the weight overhead.

I have little interest in weightlifting aside the natural knowledge it comes from crossfit, but thats why I love you channle Zack! it amazd me how such random things can sparkle a light in each of us. Love, love love that.
Martins Licis was in Pakistan recently and took part in a stone lifting competition.
Their Atlas-like stones are interesting, because they have two little slots/grips on the bottom of the stone. Looks like it makes it possible to jerk the stone.
Good share Zack thanks 👍🏻
One of the coolest videos I've ever seen on lifting
I think hands down this is your best video ever.
Good to see you enjoying this stone lifting.
Zack thank you for saying Mashallah at 7:55. Very happy to see you appreciate the culture
If this became a Pakistani stone lifting channel I wouldn’t be mad about it
I would 1000% watch you travel around the word trying obscure strength sports
Since you mention Sumo, my favorite sport, also check out Senegalese wrestling! Similar and with an incredibly loud fanbase
In the north part of Spain there is also some awesome stuff like that with stones, you should check it out
🇵🇰❤️🇪🇸👍
lol zack is like Mashala😂
TAKBIR
Allah is the Greatest

@9:49 Pakistan is not in the Middle East, Pakistan is in South Asia
F*cking sick! This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen
Amazing strength. Some of those weights are giant balls made of stone and very hard to grip or hold.
Really cool to see you feature these guys, I’ve watched a ton of these videos, thier strength and mobility are out of control, and thier lifting culture, how awesome would it be if neiborhoods here in the u.s. got together once a month to lift stones and eat barbecue
Thanks for this, one of my favorites from you!
hi zack, earned a sub from pakistan through this vid
btw the stone at 16:00 weighs 5 من ( pronunced munn) 1 munn=40 kgs, so 5 munn is equal to 200kgs
whenever you see singles numbers written anywhere with the symbols above, just multiply the number by 40 and you'll have a metric answer in kgs
Please look the Stones lifting of vasc contra ( pais vasco / Euskadi) is a rural sport, caled harrijasotzaile.
'Kaixo' to Euskadi from a Pakistani
Thanks for everything you're doing for the community brother! You are VERY much appreciated 🙏
A subscriber for you Mr Zack! I'm from Pakistan and thanks for showing the sport related to our soil culture and tradition
Great coverage
Forward this to Brian Shaw. He has his own contest and has a habit of having unusual events.
It looks like the last stone lifting event in the video only needs the weight to be sort of shouldered and the other hand to be released for the lift to count. It would be a good addition to require the lifter to jerk or press the weight overhead.
5:13 Yes please mate,. Your shout out and spotlight contribution would be huge for these amazing athletes.
This was an awesome video. Great to see different cultural demonstrations of strength.
This is awesome. Thank you zac, thank you Brent, now I know what my whole weekend is gunna look like.
instead of classic tone for swears, can we have the barbell hitting quads?
This was awesome; thanks Zach..
