I spent a good part of my career in the Army on the M60 series tanks. I am so happy to see that this kit does not use those multi piece link by link tracks! I wish more manufacturers would still include the vinyl or rubber band tracks. I ordered the M60A1 and M60A3 Blade tank kits yesterday, both were good reliable heavy metal war machines looking forward to recreating a pair of my old trusty mounts!
I think it would have been fun to paint that tank in Woodland pattern 1 and then did the sand color over it so that when done right you can see the woodland 1 pattern on it like on some of the Marine tanks had different variations of sand or Woodland camo during Desert Storm same with the Marine M1 Abrams tanks during that same time period.
I recently purchased the Tamiya version to build it as a USMC Desert Storm model and purchased the TWMR (track width mine rake) from the Tamiya M1A1 with Mine Plow kit and the CLAMS (Cleared Lane Marking System) from the Dragon M1A1HA model to complete the tank. I’m using pictures from Desert Storm and the tank I’m replications is the “American Express” tank (Tamiya provides the decals on their kit). Look forward to getting this project done.
About a 1/3 of the way in construction of this kit. This video has helped a lot so thank you Andy. My first Takom kit and what an amazing one it is. Very happy with my purchase.
I was a US Marine tanker in Desert Storm, Charlie company 8th tanks attached to A\1\6 2nd Marine Division. I was the loader on an M60A1 in Desert Shield/storm. An interesting fact for you is that the Marine Corps had a shortage of reactive armor at the time and on my tank only the front turret and hull blocks were real. Everything on the sides was actually inert empty blocks. You can see me and the rest of the crew of the "Make You Famous" in my profile pic.
Nice review/build! Kit looks well engineered (ERA is a bit complicated) and those tracks are actually pretty good. Should make modern armour modellers happy 👍
rubber bands are nice when I'm feeling lazy, but I can't say that I don't like the individual track links for functional suspension systems Edit: these are not the rubberband tracks I was expecting, these things look badass
On most US army vehicles, there's gonna be extreme chipping around the hatches and on most hard edges. Also, not all the pieces are matching colors, in reality any given M1 Abrams or Bradley will have a green drive sprocket, some green wheels, a green smoke discharger, or barrel, or shackle... Especially shackles.
Great as always but I think u FORGOT to put the word 'FORGET ' after the word 'don't in the opening credits for the mediocre modellers club Facebook section lol 👍👍👍👍😂😂😂😂
@Andy's Hobby Headquarters Those parts you say are the Explosive Reactive Armor isn't that those are just the mounting brackets for the ERA. The ERA is blocks bolted to the mounting brackets themselves.
I've noticed lately that the M60 roadwheels are of the M48 style instead of the "mag" wheels with the gusset-style reinforcement on earlier models, Why?
Hi, Andy. How much thinner did you add to the jar of Real Color to get it to spray nicely? I've found even if I top up the jar, it still wasn't enough.
very cool build and paintjob - thumbs up, could you do a M60A2 in European Winter MERDC Camouflage ? Would be great. Thanks. The other Starship you,ve already done Looks great
I wonder how long it will be before someone moulds workable tracks as a one piece moulding with pivoting joints? Bandai do it now on their Gundam kits, so why not do it on Tracks?
Do my eyes deceive me or did you miss spots with the base desert paint on the underside of the turret bustle, the jerry cans, the screen on the right light and the lower hull suspension. Also above the tracks. Great kit.
Not just you, I came here to post pretty much the same thing. Guess Andy was in a hurry! He also missed the inside of the road wheels as you can see at 26:32
Hi. I have just quick question - when You paint and clear coat whole model, what is Your trick to attach other parts to it afterwards? I mean, tamiya cement won't work unless You scrape some paint off before You apply it right? So is it the way You do it usually or do You have different approach to it? Also I forgot : great job on built. As always !
Good eye! Might have been a construction mishap. I broke 2 of mine! And, Andy left off the fire extinguisher button assembly on the air cleaners. You can see the semi-circle mounting hole! Doubt he drilled the gun barrel, either! Oh, well, lol!.... btw, I counted 4, 397 rivets, how many did YOU count?....lol....
My Academy's Bradley m2A2 I'm building just now for a diarama with the husky TSV kit Iv built before the Bradley the armour is crazy you get 2 different iraq versions one for Iraq 2003 and one for iraq Baghdad 2003 model iv done the nor iraq version with all the rivited addon armour and done my own PE for the grills and scratch built the crane for the side as this version is have all the extra addons and scratch built parts iv done! So glad of the photo references sometimes when box art is pretty poor for detail, the tank has come out completely different to box art she looks amazing I love the Bradley but is the non interior version but have that one in stash and the M3A3 and Abrams to build next for my diarama not in a hurry as still waiting for my resin British troops iv ordered off ebay its take 2 weeks already there only coming from Ireland and the UK only got locked down yesterday so don't know why taking so long to come but still alot to do before need to add them, Iv got MB figures that are pretty nice detail the mB figure kit came with some Iraqi figures too there so cool haha! Going to look great in a diarama do need a goat though hahaha!!
For wash and weathering it good oil paints products Abteilung 502 and thinner Mig ? To time build mix HB Strv 122/ Revell Leo 2A6 mit gun L44' Final Strv122. Future days it build this model Takom M60A1 Era. Thx all. Edward.
Absolutely love your videos. Great work, keep it up! I'm wondering - please don't take this as a criticism - that if in future builds you'd consider different painting styles? I know you have your method and it works for you, and the result is great, but the viewer (and maybe even yourself) could learn a few things if you tried some different shading techniques like colour modulation, or maybe base coating / hairspray as your main chipping technique. There's a million ways to do it obviously. But yeah wondering if you've ever thought of changing it up for a video or two?
When I say colour modulation I mean the whole time consuming/5 million different shades of the same colour, because you already technically do modulate with your black and white pre shade. What do you think?
You've probably already bought your choice of kit by now, but I'm presently building the Tamiya version. The plastic is thicker than the Takom version and there are some holes to fill in on the bottom of the hull. The Takom looks more refined with those great tracks and the photo etch for the turret basket - you'll pay nearly £20 (GBP) extra for the Takom though. I'm happy with the Tamiya for that price difference.
@@sholtham1 its 9 months ago but seriously i still dont have this kit because the time i want to buy its very difficult to find and in some online shop shipping is too expensive and then i forget about it. anyway thanks for replying for my very old comment. cheers mate!

Wisely the israelis decided to remove the mg turret from their M48 & M60, it was too vulnerabile and dangerous for the tank commander, then added a remote controlled mg

My first Takom kit and what an amazing one it is. Very happy with my purchase.
Andy, I just built a Lindberg T-55, the parts were all over the place. Bouncing from one sprue to the other. Whew!
A cool looking build. Nicely painted and weathered, as usual. Cheers!

I hope Takom have an M60 cold war variant in the works.
Finally a new modern kit with good rubber tracks and not the horrible link to link like most kits
rubber bands are nice when I'm feeling lazy, but I can't say that I don't like the individual track links for functional suspension systems

Nice model. Reminds me of the Tamiya M60 Blazer a built years ago.
I've built them both. This new Takom M60 series is WAY BETTER detailed than that 1970's-80's era Tamiya!....and more accurate!
@Andy's Hobby Headquarters Those parts you say are the Explosive Reactive Armor isn't that those are just the mounting brackets for the ERA. The ERA is blocks bolted to the mounting brackets themselves.
Hi, at 18:00 what is the drill bit set you have there and where did you get it from? Thanks, I have just built this model a week ago.

Hi, Andy. How much thinner did you add to the jar of Real Color to get it to spray nicely? I've found even if I top up the jar, it still wasn't enough.
the inside of the sprockets and road wheels where the Centre guide teeth wear against them should be bright silver as well as the Centre guide teeth

Great vid. Andy. How many more upgrades can they do to this old tank? Its a great tank, that's one of the reasons its still around.

Hi Andy! Do You ever spray varnish on Your models?
Stefan Olsson - think he said in other videos he uses Testors Dullcote or the Tamiya flat varnish.
I think its safe to assume this channel has kept your store alive? as brick and mortar stores are slowly dying
Can the kit be built without the ERA as a M60 AOS?
M60A1 RISE PASSIVE. You would need to change the drivers hatch to the older style. Also, no smoke dischargers.
How come you never show of the road wheels painting?
I was wondering the same...I love the way yours looks but haven't a clue how you went about getting that look on wheels...colors..etc...
