That’s so killer. They are still so fun to ride and it takes you back to those days in your mind every time. I’m with ya, some of the best times ever spent on these bikes. Welcome back.
This made me smile big time! And this is what bmx is all about. Having a good laugh/fun on cool bikes. From one old schooler to another. I salute you 😎
Im 48. Im racing for my first time in 40 years this spring in Portland. I dont have any of my old bikes but ill be on a 98 gt. Should give it a try with me. Im scared to death lol! Shacking just thinking about it
@John Corbett i raced up in seattle a couple weeks ago 46-50 novice. Got my butt handed to me. But mets some great guys. Gonna try mollala next week. Way closer
@@roberthull959 that’s awesome. It seems there are great people involved in this sport everywhere you go. Always friendly and willing to help. Keep at it and keep it fun. You’ll get better and enjoy it more each time.
At 50 I took my new BMX to our local track with the sole intention of giving it the beans. One look at the size of the berms and jumps and decided to abort the mission, as riding in the back of an ambulance was not how I wanted to end my day.
Oh man, that’s brilliant. Oh yea. I’m glad they don’t malfunction as bad like that now. It’s usually quite brutal when it happens these days. Not sure if it’s because we aren’t 13 anymore, we’re clipped in now, or the asphalt waiting for us to bounce off of… Or all of the above. 😂
I hate to say it but I've turned into what was then my greatest fear. Afraid of eating it on the jumps, and being laid up in traction. At least I had the days of hammering and beast mode in the 80's at my Richmond, IN BMX park.
Grab your old 80’s bike and meet us out there this year for the Vintage race. It’s more of a nostalgia thing than hard core hammering. It’s a lot of fun and takes you back to your childhood.
@@corbettlovesbikes sold my last bike, a 2005 Redline pro cruiser some years back unfortunately. Is this Freeman park in Indiana??? If so it looks completely different, but awesome.
@@noahholliday9761 nah this is at Gilles Creek Park in Richmond, Virginia. Track was just reworked last month and it is amazing. Raced there yesterday and it was pretty awesome. Vintage race this year will be all time. I’ll make a better video this year.
@@corbettlovesbikes I assumed it was Richmond, VA. Your invite made me question it though considering Indiana is a bike racing state. I'd come if I could, but I'm many miles away currently. You've got my sub so I can be sure to catch the Vintage race this year!
There are pavers from the gate to the first jump and they just rebuilt the first turn and made it huge with pavers. It is amazing and holds up great even when wet.
Make them all do one pedal starts. Bmx did not start in the 80’s 90’s If you are not at least 55 plus years old ask some real old racers what it was like. Wrestling on bmx bikes, kicking, grabbing bars, putting my foot on your crank etc. No cry baby rules like today’s spoiled brats.
There were plenty of one footed starts (1:38) and plenty of 55+ year old riders there too (several 60’s and a 73 year old still racing) There’s also a division with 70’s bikes. We can only recreate the bikes and equipment, definitely not the hardy style of racing back then. 😂 Racing BMX has definitely changed, but it’s still super fun 🤘
BEAUTIFUL!!! Beatiful times, fast times, I love 70´s & 80´s the Better.
A few of us have built more old school BMX bikes for this years race. Gonna be even better 👍

Great seeing those bikes used as they were intended 😎
