I love love birch tree forests! I n Canada, on a trip, I made it a point to photograph as many of the trees as I could find. They have a certain sweetness about them!!. Thank you for the inspiration❤

Julia, I think you nailed it in this painting, fabulous tutorial! I agree when you said these branches are black, these would be older branches more towards the bottom of the tree which eventually die off. The sizing and shapes in the painting are perfect.
I work in the forest for part of the year, I'm a Forest Ecology Technician) and have taken so many reference photos of birch trees so I think now is time after ten years to pick up the paint brushes and watercolours again.

​ @JuliaLisArt LOL- here's the short version - I do tree diameter and height measurements in Jack pine study plantations, soil sampling for nutrient analysis, ground water sampling and vegetation assessments in particular areas in the Jack pine studies. Along with this is mapping and GPS work.
