My hat's off to you, sir; WB could take a lesson from you. Please consider coming back to this medium give us more of this superb storytelling. Thank you.
Ironically, John Newton played Superboy in the first season of his tv show in the late 80's. The show wasn't allowed to use the name "Superman," though. In later seasons, when Superboy was recast as Gerard Christopher, there's an episode with a version of him from an alternate universe where he's considerably older. The other version just says about the future: "you won't be SuperBOY any more" due to not being able to say Superman (although the title cards for the actor did change... one billed him as Superman, but it was swapped out for one saying older Superboy later). Long rabbit trail... there was a show where this actor played Superboy. This cartoon seems inspired by the Fleischer cartoons, particularly 'The Mechanical Monsters.' Also, the cartoon is notable for being the reason Superman can fly. He could leap tall buildings in a single bound, but not fly. The animation for that was annoying, so the animators got permission for Superman to just stay in the air when he would leap.
HUGE Superman fan who can't stop crying tears of joy watching this amazing piece of animation and sensational story telling! Thank you for sharing your amazing gifts and talent. thank you, thank you, thank you.....
In recent years, I've had a lot of my fandom and love for the Man of Steel diminished by reboots and the force feeding of dark and gritty, 'super serial and important' BS that's been pushed as the agenda of WB and DC editorial. And then I re-watched this little gem and saw all the things that got me into Superman while boning up on the character for Superman Returns years ago. Your shorts, wonderfully brief as they are, capture all the excitement, fun and humor of the Superman that I've loved since I was a little boy. Bless you Robb. If you ever want to do a Kickstarter or something to create a longer story or pitch a series, you can count on my money.
I just wanted to say im a serious fan of your work. The universe you created is absolutely stunning and perfectly embodies the heroism and romanticism of Superman. I check back on UA-cam frequently to see if you've added more episodes. Amazing work, amazing art, and a wonderful tribute to the man of steel. It's inspiring to see someone pursue their passion project with such success.
The Fleischers are still my favorite version of Superman on film. It was nice to bring in a little Christopher Reeve stuff as well as other elements, too!
Every month or so I watch your cartoons again. Seriously, I'd pay real money to see them in the theatre before a film. So good. You can feel the love in every second. Thanks for making these and please make more!!!!
I would gladly use whataver limited funds I have to kickstart a fund to get a feature length motion picture from you. This is what real love of fans should be and this is the kind of movie I want kids to see in theaters.
I loved watching the old classics of Superman and every now and then I still watch them at times and after watching this Bit can't wait to see move of your work thank you
It's so cool that you got an official superman actor to voice in this! And getting his wife to voice Lois was a stroke of genius! Beautiful animation, I would love to see more!
Brilliant work on this, short and sweet, classic Superman content. Makes me think of the original animated series episode with the large robots and Lois getting kidnapped
this is amazing!!! please keep making 2D animations! i very much prefer 2D over 3D. i am glad youve made this channel. please keep making fan films of superheroes and anything else!!!
That was Brilliant, your work on superman could become some big, like a you tube or small tv series. I have the whole Max Fleischer shorts, and what you did was just as good, thank you for sharing looking forward to more, if you a going to do more.
Wow I can’t believe I’ve just found this video…..This is amazing like the other comments you really get the essence of Superman with this and the way you animated the bodies gave so much life to the characters
Not sure if this was intended, but I sure hope the design of the robot was a nod to the Iron Giant film (and the Iron Giant himself who is a fan of Superman).
They’re a reference to the Mechanical Monsters from the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons from 1941, but they did borrow a few design elements from the Iron Giant such as the body shape and the banded abdomen
Glad you found it! Thanks for watching! This animation stuff takes a LONG time to produce, but I'm always drawing! Hope you'll check in once in a while!

Mr. Pratt: I’ve only just - a bare few minutes ago - discovered your “Superman Classic” animation series. Please, if you are able, DO continue making them. I’m 58 this year, and have been a Superman fan since I was old enough to understand the basics of the character. This is, l think, only the second fan letter I’ve ever written. I’m not into social media and I’m convinced that 99% of Earth’s population doesn’t care to hear my opinion on anything. By the way, that other fan letter went to former Superman comic scribe Elliot S! Maggin - what are the odds?!? Anyway, in my book, both of you are in good company. Did I say I really like your brand new (classic) interpretation? It’s true. Wouldn’t lie about something like that. Now, when you make another short, don’t forget to let Supes indulge in a Fleischer-esque push-off from some tall bit of art deco architecture. And if you are unsure about where to go next in mapping-out your special neoclassical territory, consider 3 words: Superboy, Krypto, and Smallville. Yeah, I know: they bespeak “the adventures of superman when he was a boy,” but for me, few elements in the mythos evoke a more classic feel than these. Just a suggestion - but if you take me up on it, don’t neglect Lana! Oh, yeah: your technique for recording Bizarro’s lines was inspired! Wow, Claude - I don't know what to say! THANK YOU so much for the very kind words. Animation is SO MUCH work, and it's incredibly nice to have the work appreciated. All of your suggestions are great, and I do have a 'Brainiac Classic' in full animatic, with my Super-celebrity voices recorded! For now, I'm giving my original work a chance, so please check out and support 'CARMAN - The Road Rage Anti-Hero' and I'll hope to get back to Supes at some point!
Mr. Pratt, you captured Superman's spirit, charm, and grandeur in the span of a minute. Your imagination is clearly... Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! Thank you for doing right by the Greatest Hero Who Ever Lived!
Robb, I'd love to see your take on batman, John carter, The Shadow, and some other pulp/classic heroes. Superman and Flash Gordon still need to become a thing, IMHO.

You captured his cartoons authentic visuals+anime+ that little reprieve in between with Supes giving the child his toy robot; Just platinum Superman moment, Superman in his natural habitat. This screams Mechanical Episode from the 40s cartoon, and you sealed the deal with it being an army instead if one robot. Excellent callback. Not to make it about me, but around 13 years is about as long as I been on the Tube and JUST now have I seen this & it's only at 669k as of the 26th of September 2024. Why. UA-cam is truly a sham & shell of it's intended purpose, where the most disgusting crap gets 1Mil in days, weeks but this borderline classic production that all Superman/animation fans should know exist had to fight 13 years just for 600k. The neglect is astronomical. You deserve every view you get m8. UA-cam betrayed it's purpose, but lucky for the audience, the authentic creators did not.
Dear DC Nation, PLEASE TAKE NOTE & make this into a series (or help Pratt produce more shorts). This is pure perfection and EXACTLY what everyone wants to see in Superman.
I just watched this and the bizzaro classic and I must say being a HUGE superman fan they both were great, you have to make more any ideas about doing a batman classic since its the 75th anniversary?
Excellent beyond words. I know that this project (along with the Bizarro work) should have taken a whole lot of time and energy. My question is (and I feel bad given the tremendous effort you have given) what have you been doing lately? Do you need financial help to continue these mini-masterpieces? Come to think of it, would you be in trouble if you said that you did?
I've been working on "Flash Gordon Classic"! About 3/4 done with it - just recorded someone from the Flash Gordon family! Same pulpy take as "Superman Classic"! Hope to share soon!
The fact that WB never turned this into something is criminal. Absolutely criminal.
That was the first thing I thought also , why not make a series and hire this man to make this *Superman animation* .
The animation in this is absolutely fantastic. Amazing work dude, very inspiring.
