Imagine that the NEL was actually elevated. The estates from Sengkang to Serangoon would be noisy as the rolling stick was buit by Alstom. Not mentioning my mind was blown after finding out that LTA tried extending it all the way to Pulau Ubin.
I was told that overhead catenary was used for NEL since it was fully underground and LTA could experiment with trying this system. I think Serangoon - Hougang was already quite built up so it would be tough to build the elevated section. Maybe Buangkok onwards could have been elevated. Hougang or Buangkok could potentially be built at-grade or half-sunken and also use up more land than underground. I recall seeing the Pulau Ubin & Pulau Tekong rail alignment in a textbook during primary school during the late 90s and later wondered what happened to it.
Building NEL at-grade/half-sunken/elevated would expose it to rain though & make it harder to be fully automated/driverless, as the signalling system would also have to be smart enough to know how much the trains' braking distance increases when tracks are made more slippery by rain
today I took the Sentosa monorail a few times. First I start at Vivo city station then I board the train to the second station, Resorts world station to go to the SEA Aquarium, after that I took another train back to Vivo city station to have lunch at Food Republic. Later I took another Monorail to the fourth station, Beach station to get my souvenir, then later we go back to the first station, Vivo city station to look around for awhile before taking the North-East Line and Downtown Line home.
I personally really like the elevated sections of the EWL and the NSL, which mean that you can watch Singapore go by, but I wouldn't mind a fully underground NSEWL system with automated trains.
@@vedantganesh6923 I like watching out of the windows of trains too, anyone who says they don't are lying, especially when visiting new areas I've not been to before. I personally prefer overground tracks, because not only are the views nice, it costs less to build overground sections.

The forgotten plans of NEL is cool. But I hope that the government will build a connection to Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong (By Underpass with cars and buses. No need MRT)
Lol , maybe next time got Mrt operated by Tower transit at the west side cuz mostly of the tower transit buses are at Jurong East or Bukit Batok . Maybe the go ahead train will go through East or Northern side of Singapore 😂
okay the tekong one....its in the army premises which the govt will allow army trainings, but for pulau ubin might be feasible. for ubin it will be called woodedge, katam besar, ketam north, ubin coast.
The extension to jalan Kayu which I saw is feasible for any line just not the northeast line reason why not nel. 1.You need Metal wires to transmit the overhead power. 2.must be build under ground due NEL limitation. 3.you need clamps for wire and whatnot. 4. Possible for another 3rd rail invisible for overhead. This is why LtA choose early to stick to 3rd rail. North east is just a trial line for overhead
The extension to Jalan Kayu is replaced by Seletar Line but blocked the potential of going to North East Line to prevent overcrowding and choking the entire system. Overhead rail is optional, just that the KTM is just trial line for overhead.
@@christopheryongmenglee7569 It was the original 1990s idea. What do you get when you cross the SBS Transit North East line's electrification and the SMRT Thomson-East Coast line's signalling system? Sydney Metro! Notes on technology and rolling stock (I told you more earlier): * The half-height and full-height platform screen doors of Sydney Metro were supplied by Faiveley Transport. * The Alstom OPTONIX 2-level IGBT-VVVF drive for the Alstom Metropolis of Sydney Metro is similar to that of Shanghai Metro Line 15. * It's unknown whether the onboard information systems are VPIS (like NEL) or TTIS (like CCL, DTL and TEL). * The Sydney Metro trains consist of 6 carriages each, and there is an option to increase to 8 carriages in 2024 when the line is extended to Bankstown.

I think I know what is station number 2.. it's going to brani island.. either Sentosa express or NEL or both also can.. no need to go 4th floor to take train at vivocity.. (ridiculous)..

All the way to Tekong, perhaps in also helping the MINDEF by saving the boat trip from Changi.
@@ethanang8099 hmmm maybe LTA did not go crazy while planning the NEL
I think it will be noisy, but they can learn from the KTM line. The KTM line uses Metro-Cammell trains and Japanese Kinki Sharyo trains.

Faster. Can't wait. But the more they build lines, the more they "rationalize" the BUSES.
I always wondered why are lines that are not EWL and NSL not elevated
