Aiden mentioned people from San Diego cheering for the Houston rockets when they left. I can’t speak for other franchises that have moved but almost nobody in Seattle, if any, cheer for the thunder and probably actively root against them.
Yea like you might cheer for the squad that played while they were still in your City but after time and trades I wouldn't cheer for a brand new roster
You guys definitely need to watch a documentary on one of the many 4 professional sports teams that moved. - Baltimore Colts secretly left in the middle of the night, during a snow storm to Indianapolis! - Cleveland Browns left for Baltimore, changed name to Ravens but acted more like an expansion team (Cleveland kept name, teams stats & records) Cleveland finally got a team back a couple years later San Diego Chargers, LA & Oakland Raiders, Rams… Montreal Expos, similar to what is happening to the Oakland A’s, have tanked those teams, blamed fans & city. Both also resemble the movie ‘Major League’ (You’re watching the NBA now) NHL teams seem to move around a lot.
Canadian Distillery. It was an entire brand at one point. The three most popular Seagram distilled products in the 1960s through 1990s were Seven Crown, VO, and Crown Royal. Seagram's 7 is a whisky. I occasionally ordered a 7-7 back in the day which is mixed with Seven Up. It was also my grandfather's drink of choice.
San Antonio is the host of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo every February. The Spurs used to play in the Alamo Dome, which is also where the Rodeo was hosted. So, to this day, the Spurs go on a streak of away games every February called, "The Rodeo Road Trip," even though they no longer share a venue.
Shout out to Aid @ 19:00 for knowing that the "Drillers" are a minor league baseball team 😂 They play here in my hometown of *Tulsa, Oklahoma.* The Tulsa Drillers are the (AA) Minor League affiliate to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Many great players have played here such as *Sammy Sosa, Juan Gonzalez, Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, Matt Holliday etc.*
When they show the map where the Royals were moving from Cincinnati to Omaha and Kansas City, 6:27 ,Omaha and Kansas City are shown on the map in the wrong place.
Still working through the video, but for Oklahoma City, the name Thunder fits due to the strong storms common in the area. Twisters would fit as it is the heart of tornado alley. Barons is probable a reference to the oil industry. Renegades...not sure on that one. Even when they sound silly, there is typically a local reasoning for the team name/mascot/nickname/etc,
Interesting trivia. My mother was a professor of Physical Education at Springfield College in Springfield Massachusetts, and the Basketball Hall of Fame is in Springfield Massachusetts and the sport was created in Springfield Massachusetts but Springfield Massachusetts does not have an NBA team it was created as a college sport
23:45 In the NFL, when the Washington Redskins dropped their name due to protests about racism, the team was called the "Washington Football Team" for a few years while they looked for a new nickname. Some people actually wanted to keep that permanently, but they ultimately became the Washington Commanders
The Detroit Pistons story highlights how huge the US auto industry was at that time. Feeder shops all over the country and no importation. That "Pistons" monikor slid over so gracefully and appropriately. Wish it was the Bad Boys days lol.
It’s crazy how some of the names are a perfect fit for the city even though they never originated there. I would’ve bet cash money the Rockets started in Houston lol. Also, Twisters is a way better name than Thunder. I can’t STAND names that aren’t pluralized.
I never liked the name magic would've preferred the hurricanes or like moccasins I feel the heat never picked hurricanes because they already had the college named hurricanes
Utah Grizzlies and Memphis Jazz makes more sense. Yes bring back Seattle Sonics! Also expand to new cities like Las Vegas and an another team in the east. Or move Memphis and Minnesota to the Eastern Conference then add Seattle and Las Vegas to the west.
the Phoenix Rattlers would've been good because Arizona has a bunch of snakes, they couldn't use Diamondbacks but i don't know when the Arizona Diamondbacks became a Major League Baseball team
I'm glad they went with Suns because the sunburst logo is iconic and they've had some damn good jerseys. AZ always nails it with branding, really. Right down to the state flag.
IMHO, the absolute worst names in the NBA are: Toronto Raptors ; Utah Jazz (the name 'Jazz' would've only made sense if the team stayed in New Orleans) ; Washington Wizards ; LA Clippers ; Sacramento Kings ; Brooklyn Nets ; New Orleans Pelicans ; Orlando Magic ; Cleveland Cavaliers ; Just horrendous names with almost no real relevance or linkage to the cities in which the teams are located. And the best names in the NBA: New York Knicks (Knickerbockers....just rich with historical meaning) ; Philadelphia 76ers (RICH with historical relevance to the city) ; Boston Celtics ; Detroit Pistons (relevant to the city in Michigan that was the hub of the American automobile manufacturing industry) ; Denver Nuggets ; Golden State Warriors ; Houston Rockets ; Miami Heat ; San Antonio Spurs ;
As far as quality and absolutely real names for a franchise go, the Rocket City Trash Pandas* has my number one pick. Double A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. They play in Madison, AL which is right next to Huntsville. *n. slang - a raccoon 🦝
11:48 SuperSonic fans were done so dirty! It’s insane Seattle is still without an NBA franchise.
at least they're next on the list, along with Vegas
There will be one by 2030
I used to have a Shawn Kemp sonics jersey when I was a kid. Still one of my favorite jerseys ever
Lakers were first in Minneapolis (Minnesota is called "The Land of 10,000 Lakes").
At one point the Miami dolphins mascot was a live dolphin that lived in a tank in the stadium
His name was Snowflake and in the 90s, former Dolphins kicker Ray “Laces Out” Finkle kidnapped him. There’s a great documentary about it.
@@Perfectly_Cromulent351yeah, called Ace Ventura 💀😂

Houstonians hate the Tennessee Titans. And did so even before we got the Texans.
Yea like you might cheer for the squad that played while they were still in your City but after time and trades I wouldn't cheer for a brand new roster
@@noelramirez1551 yea I think the few fans that decided to like the thunder stopped when Kevin Durant left okc

18:53 lol, As a kid, my first soccer team I played on was called the Drillers, and our team flag had a oil daric on it.
To be fair, of any NBA team was called the Juice I'd instantly be a fan
That old Raptors logo is by far my favourite. Also, SuperSonics is a lit name; wish they brought it back :/
9:00..... the Baltimore Bullets stadium is still around. It's now called Royal Farms Arena. The Washington Wizards have some preseason games there.
Seagrams makes all kinds of liquor but is most famous for their gin.

If you know Phoenix then you know how hot it is. Believe me the Sun's name is appropriate.
I’ve always wanted vancouver to get the grizzlies back and for Memphis to rebrand to the pharaohs to represent its egyptian roots
Now that I got me some Seagrams gin, everybody's got they cups but ain't chipped in😂❤😂
Dallas Derricks: sponsored by Irn Bru. What do derricks and Irn Bru have in common? They are both made from girders.
My grandfather used to work at Zollner Piston in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
You May want to watch some of the historic players highlight videos. Houston Oilers had a running back you’ll enjoy watching.
Would be funny to see Aidan do a vlog where he attempts to ice skate haha.

The “GurURDers” could rock out as a name. LOL
Trailblazers is a reference to the Oregon trail
@6:27 what is that map lol that is neither KC nor Omaha.
You are correct, Daz. The Rochester Seagrams were named after the Beverage company.
Oklahoma is located in tornado alley. It was destined to be named after a meteorological event.
That’s why I think Twisters would’ve been a good name rather than Thunder.
