Best review as always. 5 minutes, only important things, only worked examples - perfect. Thanks a lot Eli.

I was using Fabfilter Q2 to use it's MATCH feature, as I'm often hired to do soundalikes of hits. I tried EQQuivocate today and it was far better and got much closer to what I was trying to match. Extremely good plug in thank you Eventide!!

Dont' know, just know it sounded WAY more like the original when compared to the Fabfilter result.

way more bands in this then fabfilter so it would be more accurate just from having that many more bands.

Not necessarily. Although many LP EQs will limit the number of bands one can create / use, matching is different. Most matching EQ techniques don't have a specified number of bands; the 'match curve' is usually based on the block size, which determines the filter accuracy; most FIR designed LP EQs are 'top down' designs, with accuracy decreasing the lower one goes in frequency. If you set the block size too low, the lows are inaccurate; if you set the block size high enough to get the lows accurate, the highs have too many peaks & dips, making the process sound unnatural. If you then use the 'smoothing' feature, the accuracy of the lows is again lost (albeit in a slightly different way than block size). The main reason Equivocate sounds better than other LP matching EQs is the Mel spaced bands, which match the ear's frequency perception (or more accurately, matches the ear's discrimination between frequencies - e.g. masking). Read the manual for more about Mel, and/or mess with a spectrogram display, like RX, Wavelab, etc. It is a wonder no one has thought of this before!

Excellent review Eli! I am tickled pink (is that an EQ pun?) to have this plug and that Eventide is giving it away, is just amazing.

Really good review Eli ! I've owned it for a few weeks and didn't know it could match. Thanks.

so.. I've seen videos of some mix engineers or producers using pink noise as a reference. I suppose this matching would work really well in that scenario.

I have to say your product demos and reviews stand head and shoulders above the others on UA-cam, and your tracks show some serious mixing chops.

Nice overview, Eli. EQuivocate and Elevate from Eventide/Newfangled are incredibly useful - perhaps the best plug-ins of 2017 (although there are more and more innovative plug-ins every month). Exciting times to be mixing in the box. Pick these up before the end of Oct 2017 for great deals (EQuivocate is free!).

Although many Linear Phase EQs will limit the number of bands one can create / use, matching is different. The main reason Equivocate sounds better than other LP matching EQs is the Mel spaced bands, which match the ear's frequency perception (or more accurately, matches the ear's discrimination between frequencies - e.g. masking, critical bands, etc.). Read the manual for more about Mel, and/or mess with a spectrogram display, like RX, Wavelab, etc.My point is: finally, a workable matching EQ! It is a wonder no one has thought of this before!

Does anyone think that using a Match EQ with ref tracks "in the same key" is important? I started doing this a few years ago with Logic's MAtch EQ and it seems to make sense. Where the peaks would be strongest in a different key might want to compensate in the wrong areas? Looking forward to trying this one out. I first used Powercore's Match EQ years ago... which was great.

Do you think this could be a nice replacement for the URS N12 EQ?
