What about note placement? What's the theory there? How do I know if to write 3 notes or 4, 5 notes? Does it go after kick or after snare, before snares?
Man, I love your guides, I think that I'm going on a binge of your videos. I've been producing for some time now, and even though this content seems to be mostly beginner oriented, I'm really finding some gem insights. The guides of other producers on UA-cam mostly look like cook-ups rather than guides because most of the time they are not able to explain their decision-making
Thank you so much brother. Definitely will be doing a video on arrangement down the road. Are there any other topics or videos you think you'd wanna see?
very in depth! I love ambient trap. It has something spooky about it to me but also something beautiful at the same time. I also like that the drums have so much focus in that kind of trap. I didn't know the term of discordant trap. It's even spookier haha I have to research on that
Hahah yeah I love ambient beats too. There is something about those moodier types of beats that really strike a chord in me I should tell you that those terms are ones that I came up with just so I could explain them and the theory behind them easier! I would be surprised if someone else also came up with that term hahah
For sure, I find every genre has lots of different styles when it comes to structuring, techniques, textures, etc. Tried to do my best to differentiate a few of them in the video. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend!
I didn't even know about the 3rd one. I definitely like making the first two pretty much evenly. Just depends on my mood at the moment. The last one kind of sounds like some slower crunk music. I could see me making something like that if I was angry which hardly ever happens. Definitely sounds cool though. I may have to experiment with that just for fun. I think you're the only person on UA-cam that makes trap beats at the actual tempo of the song. Most people double the tempo. Even I started doing it because I seen everyone else doing it. 😂 It took me awhile to figure it out to. I was used to doing 90s style beats in the 85 to 95 bpm range. A lot of the older generation hates on trap. I appreciate it. In my opinion the beats are way more creative. The lyricism isn't quite as good, in some cases nowhere close, but sonically the beats are way better. I'm just one of those old heads that accepted the fact that musical taste changes every generation. It happens before us and will continue to happen.
Hahaha yeah I noticed that too, most guys double the BPM, not quite sure why that is. I guess it doesn't really make a difference at the end of the day. I like the trap stuff and the old school hip hop personally, the old three six mafia and stuff helped bridge that gap for me. But yeah, that third style is something I noticed works for super aggressive types of rap. Which is why I used the Denzel Curry acapella, felt like it fit his style. Thanks for watching though brother, I appreciate you taking the time 🙏🏽
Yooo, the editing in this video as well as the content itself is very quality and informative! Respect for the work you put in bro forreal, your channel gonna be massive someday I can tell!🔥👊
First off shout out to Navie D for making these free tutorials for the new producers like myself who really have no clue how to properly use a DAW. Secondly, that third beat, Bruh! The Discordant beat. Straight heat. Yeah bruh. I see u know what u doing.
Navie D. Young producers need to realize there’s the other 50% of making a song which is the artist. Can’t have a beat that’s too abrasive, otherwise, there’s no room.
Thank you for this high quality content, I'm trying to classify trap beats types and this video was so helpful, unfortunately the common way of classifying beats is based on the artist such as travis scott type beats..etc which doesnt make sense to me from a composing point of view, so it would be so helpful for us beginners if you further address more types as trap soul beats..etc
Thank you man! I ran into the exact same problem so I made this video as a result. Good idea though man, I might actually go ahead and make a sequel to this
Good Day Navie D, love your videos! Quick question, where do you get the Maschine plugin? I only see the Maschine update on Native Instruments. Really nice plugin for 808s.
Thanks man. I wanted to start doing a bit more straightforward tutorials that are serious. I might do a full breakdown of one of the songs from MFP possibly
Hey brother why do you have maschine open with FL? I currently am using maschine as a daw but I’ve been learning FL to switch over. What’s your thoughts? Appreciate it!
Honestly, this is a really old video and since then I basically removed Maschine from my workflow. Unfortunately it doesn't have good capabilities working with other DAWs :(
Yo recently stumbled across your videos and they're super helpful but one thing I was wondering is where do you get all of your fx? Most of the fx I find tend to be risers instead of sounds that cushion the melodies etc.
I either make them myself, or I go on places like splice and download weird sounds and reverb them out. I sort of like to use transition sounds that sit a bit more in the background so I won't reach for the typical synth risers or anything
@@NavieD Old video, but I've watched a bunch of your stuff Navie, and I don't think I've seen a specific video on how you create those effects etc. If so can you link it, and if not, that would be a great video topic.
C'mon now, give that like button a lil' tickle. Let me know which of these styles of beats was your favourite.

Great tutorial on style choices. I think you have a good niche with this approach to creative music composition.

I’ve always been drawn to ambient beats just because of how much room it leaves to layer vocals for the artist.

Do you have a video on how to add fx to the beat like you do in this one?
